    That was absolutely incredible! To do a 50 meter underwater swim with both arms is hard enough, but to do it with 1 arm makes it 10xs harder. You should really think about becoming a Seal. Not a lot of people can do that with just one arm.

      ***** I'm not saying for him to become a Seal just cause he's good at stream lining. I'm saying that because he looks like a very great swimmer and Navy Seals are considered "frogmen" for a reason. There are a lot of guys who are currently Seals but didn't know anything about all the other things besides water until they enlisted or went officer. Not everyone is gonna have the knowledge. That's why we all start at one point. This is why your recruiter gets you in shape before you head to BUDS prep. But being a great swimmer and being able to hold your breath gives you a great advantage to becoming a Seal. You don't gotta have the best PT scores to become a Seal, but you do gotta have your scores up there. I'm pretty sure this guy in this video would be willing to put the effort in to get good at push ups, sit ups, pull ups and etc.. if he isn't good at them.

    • @jlemon22
      @jlemon22 Před 6 lety

      Not necessarily true. Swimming underwater is easiest using the dolphin kick with only ONE two arm pull. Any other arm pulls just create drag that's terrible for momentum. From experience.

    Thank you! First you can try holding you breath as much as you can by sitting on a chair. See what you time would be. Then move onto holding your breath underwater or just floating without any motion. If this is too easy for you, you can try our "Swimming Training - Underwater walk" exercise. Navigate to Swimming Training playlist on this channel and you'll see it. All three intend to increase your lung capacity.

      In seal training, you don't get a push off the 2 walls let alone one, it's a straight 50 and just to make sure you have no momentum going forward, they make you do a front flip under water right when you start. Definitely harder than this but still impressive video

    But as long as someone is watching closely, and there are lifeguards, this is pretty safe, isn't it? People sometimes pass out, but the body still instinctively prevents you from breathing water, doesn't it? If someone pulls you out immediately, you should theoretically be just fine. I'm asking because I wanna attempt 50m, 25m I got without a sweat, but 50m might be a problem for me.

    Everyone talking about the SEAL stuff, the SEAL 50M underwater requires you to jump in the pool do a front flip underwater and start the 50M no pushing off the first wall. That’s amazing though, great job! If you could share with us how you prepare yourself for a 50M that would be great!

    • @SwimTechniqueTV
      @SwimTechniqueTV  Před 6 lety

      Thanks for reaching out and leaving feedback. It’s truly appreciated! Obviously that kind of special training is for well prepared athletes. It is NOT for regular workout! There are lots of factors to consider: for example, practicing holding breath on land, gradually increasing the distance swum underwater, ability to have strong pull and kick, etc. and of course have a lifeguard/coach beside who is also aware.

  • @SurfyProject
    @SurfyProject Před 11 lety

    Usually you can go with 8x25 underwater on 1min interval at the end of your practice or just do a 50 all the way once a day. You'll be amazed how much further you can go week by week.

    Streamline position is the fastest way to move through the water, in particular, underwater dolphin kick. Try and see whats best for you. ALWAYS have a lifeguard watching you every time you perform this exercise.

    I can swim a fair distance underwater. Usually back and down the longest way. Self taught and never was on a team. Would like to do this more routinely with my kids.
    What is it called when you swim for so long underwater when your breath starts to feel like its hiccuping? Is this bad to do?

    • @SwimTechniqueTV
      @SwimTechniqueTV  Před 8 lety

      +First Last Not a good idea! It's called shallow water blackout and it's extremely dangerous for training and overall safety. Thanks for watching!

    • @FirstLast-ej1my
      @FirstLast-ej1my Před 8 lety

      I've never blacked out, doing it since I was a kid. Wasn't sure if it put extra strain on the body or what.

    • @redjr242
      @redjr242 Před 6 lety

      These are contractions from your diaphragm telling you to exhale CO2. You probably shouldn't rely on my advice only because this could be very dangerous, but from what I've learned, these are actually okay and do not damage your body - but they do feel extremely uncomfortable and painful, at least for me.
      The reason why I say it's dangerous is that you could blackout at any moment, especially when you're exerting yourself. If this happens, someone needs to rescue you and bring your face out of the water within, I think, about 10 seconds to have a good chance of regaining consciousness. Although it's kind of a buzzkill, you should never under any circumstance hold your breath underwater by yourself. Otherwise, you could push yourself too far and you will almost certainly die.
      This is also why you should never hyperventilate before going underwater because the decreased CO2 concentration means that the contractions will show up much later - maybe too late and you could blackout at an even less expected time.
      This would be a great skill to teach your kids though, I think. As long as they know the risks and there is a knowledgeable supervisor keeping an eye on them - perhaps two in the case of kids.

    I am training for the BRC which involves heavy amphibious training. I need to swim 25-30m underwater using only breaststroke or sidestroke. There is no push-off, either.
    What is the best way to train for underwater distance swimming?

    • @SurfyProject
      @SurfyProject Před 10 lety

      The best way to start is by practicing holding your breath underwater first. If you can manage holding it for a minute, then you won't have any problem going for 30m. Going breaststroke would be more efficient rather than sidestroke. Another suggestion is glide after each stroke, this will save you some oxygen. Good luck on the training and thanks for watching the video. Cheers!

      75m? When you were 11?? Wow.
      I did just over a lap of a 50m pool almost four years ago - I found that I needed a similar approach as to how you described: I would float/wade on my back for 15 minutes trying to calm myself down, then I would dive under and try to stay in a meditative state. 'Most calming experience of my life! =)

    doing 2x25meter is easier than 1x50meter underwater. clearly he didn't show it in 50 meter pool. Non ever recorded in camera!! should do it in 50 meter pool length! you fail! just like the army,....25 meter underwater is easy peas....

      Clearly it was 50m underwater non-stop in a 25 meter pool. What makes you so confident that we'd fail in a 50m pool? Because we are NOT army doesn't mean we can't do it in a 50m pool.

      Where the hell did you get your info soldier? 50x1 is easier. You keep going, 2x25, you have to go, turn, place, and push. Which uses more energy, because more muscles get used, which depletes oxygen levels in the blood quicker, which underwater makes you cry and scream for air. Not to mention he was holding a camera in one hand, which easily reduces how strong of a swimmer one would be should they be accustom to swimming with two arms. You fail....do some research.

      SteamShinobi you would know the diff if you swam in both 25m and 50m pools before
