ABOUT THE PIECE:
"Torched and Wrecked" is part of a series of pieces entitled "Aliens with Extraordinary Abilities," a cycle of works exploring a common idea: that the same piece of music can move at several different speeds at the same time. An electronic audio track - David’s most intensive work with electronic composition to date - expands and reinforces the live percussion in many of these works. Each piece in the series takes its names from a memorable Third Coast Percussion touring experience or inside joke.

ABOUT THE COMPOSER:
David Skidmore is a percussionist, composer, and musical entrepreneur. David is a dedicated advocate for the music of our time, having commissioned, premiered, and performed dozens of new works by many of the great composers of the 20th and 21st century.
In 2005, David co-founded Third Coast Percussion, an ensemble that has performed hundreds of concerts across the country, presents an annual concert season at home in Chicago, teaches musicians of all ages and experience levels, and has commissioned dozens of new works by composers including David T. Little, Timo Andres, Donnacha Dennehy, Chris Cerrone, Marcos Balter, Ted Hearne, Glenn Kotche and Augusta Read Thomas. Called “vibrant” and “superb” by Alex Ross of The New Yorker, Third Coast Percussion was named Ensemble-in-Residence at the University of Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Performing Arts Center in 2013 and the ensemble received its first Grammy Award in 2017.

ABOUT THE ENSEMBLE:
Third Coast Percussion is a Grammy Award-winning, artist-run quartet of classically-trained percussionists hailing from the great city of Chicago. For over ten years, the ensemble has forged a unique path in the musical landscape with virtuosic, energetic performances that celebrate the extraordinary depth and breadth of musical possibilities in the world of percussion. The ensemble has been praised for “commandingly elegant” (New York Times) performances, the “rare power” (Washington Post) of their recordings, and “an inspirational sense of fun and curiosity” (Minnesota Star-Tribune). The four members of Third Coast are also accomplished teachers, and since 2013, have served as ensemble-in-residence at the University of Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.
A direct connection with the audience is at the core of all of Third Coast Percussion’s work, whether the musicians are speaking from the stage about a new piece of music, inviting the audience to play along in a concert or educational performance, or inviting their fans around the world to create new music using one of their free mobile apps.
Third Coast Percussion maintains a busy touring schedule, with past performances in 32 of the 50 states plus Canada, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Poland, and venues ranging from concert halls at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and De Doelen to clubs and alternative performance spaces such as New York’s Le Poisson Rouge and the National Gallery’s West Garden Court.

I think I have found my favourite Band! Have to get all of their CD's now, this stuff is electric!
that marimba player in the back was giving me anxiety he looked so tense like he was gonna burst 😂
I believe that's David Skidmore. But yes I agree it's kinda funny 😅
@DjOrsonBeatz Rob is the one with the round glasses.
It's either Sean or David, not sure.
@@MarimbaMaurice surely you recognise David from the triangle video 😂 czcams.com/video/f7NO3aR8bow/video.html
If you gave me a thousand years I would never be able to figure out how to play these parts with their timing.
They've got a click track in their ears, along with the backing tracks (which can be heard with headphones, barely). I played this piece as part of my undergrad. Vibraphone 1 (on the right). Challenging piece at this speed!
The piece is luminous. What an amazing performance.
What a beautiful piece of music. Well done!
wow! amazing!!!!!
Those vibe perms!!
Wicked piece, amazing performance!
Astounding!
Beautiful! What great feel...
¡Estupendo!
I love these kind of atmospheric pieces 💕 Well done!
It's not really a "song", if you want to be precise. A song is just one musical form. I'd go with "piece" for a percussion ensemble work like this.
@@ems7623 Yes nowadays I would also call these pieces
magic jam!
theese are the bois thatt make
ringtones lol
Sooooooo gooooooood
Yeah!
Epic
Squad goals!

If you want to join the percussion ensemble, friend, you must either have skills in four mallets... or mad, mad, mad chops.

More seriously, I enjoyed how the combined rhythm had its own feel to it, like it was one part composed of many intricate pieces.
This ... was just... WOW!!
I wish this was available on Spotify! 😍
@DjOrsonBeatz I know they will be releasing an album. Hope this is on there besides "Perpetulum"
I first heard it on spotify
@@nicolasalbertg Yes it's now on Spotify via their Perpetulum album (which is absolutely amazing btw)
It is now, I just found it there and here I am.
Wow......
will you upload the first and third rotation sometime?
WA!

The player with the skinny black tie and white shirt is jaw-droppingly beautiful - and he looks super-intense.
That's the composer, David Skidmore
Definitely a chopout
Im going to stik a kick over it ;]
would this piece be considered minimalistic??
sounds pretty maximalistic to me
The fast arpeggios on the vibraphone remind me of pieces by Philip Glass, so I don't blame you for making that comparison.
It definitely shares quite a bit with minimalism - more Glass than Reich.
I could Do All Instruments With One Hand......
