  • This video will give you overview of how to build a wireless/cellular activated hog trap door.
    You can build for $200. Plus 2 days work!!!! A few key points.
    1. Get 4g LTE. The controller will cost more than a 2g but ATT not going to support 2g much longer. You only need one channel. Att charges $30 to activate then $10/month if you add to existing plan.
    2. Latch (release). Get a old or buy new car door latch. It holds weight of door but releases with ease. I got mine free from a collision repair shop.
    3. Look for external antenna if you have issues with reception.
    4. I used a 4 port car relay ($9) for the power to solenoid so I did not risk burning up the control board relay.
    5. You will need cellular game camera to send you pictures so you know when to activate the gate.
    6. Checkout TwistedTineRanch.com website or Facebook for more detailed pictures.

    I purchased the cattle panel at tractor supply and the angle iron at a metal supplier. I built the entire door.

      I’m trying to build a door like that, I built one out of woods and I built the relay myself as well

    Update 9/2022 - Lots of lesson.
    1. Finally added a second ammo box with a $40 lawn mower battery to get the run time I needed.
    2. One of biggest problems with open gates is deer come in and eat all the corn before hogs. Turns into a deer feeder vs hog trap. I tried adding a saloon style door that hogs would have to push on to get in. It stopped the deer but hogs not as likely to go through it. I had also built fencing using 5’ tall cattle panels. Welded 5’ x 8’ square using 1” square tubing. Then welded the cattle panel to that. Made it easy to set up and move.
    3. 5’ tall fence not high enough. I would get pictures of deer that had jumped fence! Then one night got a picture of a buck that had jumped fence (going out) but back legs got stuck in the fence. Found him the next morning dead about 20 yds from trap. Broke his back legs and coyotes ate him. Will be adding 16” to top of fence.
    3. A few parts people have asked about
    A. Fielect DC 12V 80N 10A Push Pull Type Solenoid Electromagnet Open Frame Solenoid Electromagnet Linear Motion, JF-1683B-12V
    B. KiaoTime GSM-RELAY-US4G Volte 2022 New USA AT&T 4G 7CH Output GSM SMS Remote Control Relay Contact Switch Box iOS APP (Note - you do not need a 7 channel. Only need one channel)

    Update (7/26/2021)- I have found that I can only get 2 bars on att even with the antenna up about 6’. I think this causes the cellular board to search more often. Even with a solar panel the 12v feeder battery would go dead after about 3 weeks. I added a second 12v battery in parallel. This works much better.
    I find I get a lot of deer going into the pen so I just (7/26/2021) strung a few wires across the gate to see if that deters the deer without impacting the hogs. Will let you know.
    I ended up using 5’ tall wire fencing. Had to put tee post ever 5’ to make it strong enough. Needed to really twist the tee post clips to hold fence. First time I caught a big boar he knock all the clips loose and almost got out.
    Next project is take 5’ x 16” cattle panel cut it at 8’ and weld it inside of angle iron so easy to move (5’x8’ panels) and get rid of a lot of tee post. The pigs get smart quick. You will need to move trap. I find if I go to trap to add corn or just check it pigs don’t go into trap for 2-3 days.
    I use a Spy Point cellular camera. Tied a 10’ x 1” PVC pipe to 8’ tee post. Ran a external antenna with 15’ cord to camera. Only way I could get good (50%) signal. Another $70 from Amazon. Yes it does sway in the wind!

    My cell phone is with tmobile, it said no sim card for none-cell phone purposes. What is your plan? data only, with airtime, with text? I wonder what I should have.

    Where did you shop to build the door?

    Hello sir what's the name of your actuator and where can I purchase one?

    What did you use to build the channel the gate slides in?

    • @kentcorser1651
      @kentcorser1651  Před rokem

      The channel is made by overlapping 1-1/2” x 1-1/2” angle iron to create the channel.

    Can someone please tell me if it comes with a SIM card or how I go about getting a activated sims card?

      You can get a SIM card off Amazon (alarm system) or ATT, Verizon etc.

  • @thinredlinesoftwashllc9685

    What is the relay in the box for ?

    • @kentcorser1651
      @kentcorser1651  Před 3 lety +1

      The small black relay is used to prevent the main controller relay from being overloaded when the current is sent to the solenoid to release the door. The main controller relay should be able to take the load but by setting it up like this the main controller relay sends the sign to the “black” relay. This then fires the solenoid. These type of relays are used on cars for LED lights etc. using a $8 relay to handle load versus risking $100 control board.

      Great video. I really appreciate your sharing your creativity. Would you mind sharing the solenoid and controller you used.
      Or maybe an electrical parts list?

    Looks to me from what I know, the hogs will ram that and mess up everything in that ammo box. Put that on a separate post. Where’s the 2nd video you promised? Come on sir let’s see this thing in action. Great invention but let the world see your follow through.
