Games aren't re-released because they've "aged better", they're re-released because they were popular.
There are a lot of otherwise good games that won't get that treatment due to being overshadowed, licensing, or the company going under, so there is merit in being 'forced' to explore a system's library.

Truth. I was born in 89. I pretty much had a Game Boy since I was born. I spent large chunks of my time doing nothing but playing Game Boy. Even more when you add in Game Boy Color and Advance.
I STILL play Game Boy games all the time. I either do it on my re-shelled GBA SP 101 with a flash cart, or my emulation handheld. I still have my original grey brick and Pokemon Gold GBC, but playing on them without a backlit screen is just annoying more than fun. And I somehow don't have any of the the millions of worm lights I used to have.
One day I'll have the money to buy myself a pre-modded GBC with a nice screen on it. Maybe even get one with a rechargeable battery because why not?

I want to get a modded GBC one day. I have an original GBC actually, but I don't want to mod it since it's one of those fancy Pokemon Gold ones. But money is keeping me from getting one. I did recently spend a chunk of money on an emulation handheld (the Retroid Pocket 2+), but I felt like in the long run, the Retroid would be a better value for the price. It was still cheaper than a pre-modded GBC, and I can play anything from Atari 2600 to Dreamcast (even PS1, PSP, and DS).
But I'm definitely gonna get one one day. For now, if I want to play on real hardware, I have a GBA SP 101 and some flash carts.

What I love about the GameBoy Color right now is the fact that it doesn’t have a backlight which makes it easy on the eyes as opposed to backlight on the GameBoy Light/SP or modded systems. In retrospect, the worm light for the GameBoy Color was useful for car rides although I only played it when under a lamp or in the sun and I was never given a worm light as a kid because my parents were concerned I’d be up at night playing. GameBoy Color aside, I picked up reading books again as well especially since it’s so easy on the eyes compared to anything else in today’s standards.

Just something about the classics. I got into retro collecting for the GBA since it includes alot of titles from my favorite system as a kid, the SNES.
Although I got games like elden ring on a beefed up PC, I am still choosing to play my GBA, because these games focused heavily on fun factor, while modern games focus on how hard they can milk your money.

I don't think it's a stupid challenge per se, but I think a lot of the nostalgia we experience from games like Pokemon, Mario, Halo, CoD MW/MW2, etc., all come from the fact that it was all most people had. Since everybody did it, you have more experiences from it. Nowadays, there's just far more options and people play what they prefer to play, not what they HAVE to play because it's all they have.

I fucking love the barrel mini-game from superstar saga. Just to make sure that I'm not faking it. You do it in a ship full of skeletons people and you wind up sinking it and the star piece (that looks like a bone) floats out of the ship underwater.

I find that these kind of challenges don't actually result in me playing more games on single console. Instead what seems to happen is I just wind up spending less time gaming and playing the console about as much as I would have without the challenge. If I'm in the mood for one game, and I've got this rule in my head that says I have to stick to a different game or set of games, what will happen in practice is that my brain will go "I don't really feel like playing video games anyway," and I wind up doing other stuff besides playing video games. Even cleaning my room or doing something else I've been avoiding can start to become an appealing alternative to gaming if I lock myself into playing games I'm not in the mood for. In other words, I don't break the restriction to stick with that console, but it's because about half the time it operates as a disincentive to playing games at all depending on my mood. I find that I have to set a positive goal of playing a certain number of games by a certain date in order to have that work, and if I do that it doesn't much matter which consoles they're on.
