We always had one, so when I was a teen visiting/staying with friends I needed to learn cutting bread with a knife. It was bad at first but these days I slice up a loaf like a champ and don't have a machine at home.

@@glasperle77 Der Arbeitshandschuh kann sich in Maschinen verfangen, z.B. Kreissägen, Tischfräser, Standbohrmaschinen usw. Wenn sich der Handschuh verfängt kann dich das schwer verletzen. Weder die Maschine noch der Arbeitshandschuh geben nach, sondern deine Hand. Es gibt inzwischen Notaus-Mechanismen, aber es gibt dennoch fast immer, mehr oder weniger schwere Verletzungen. Mein Onkel hat sich den Daumen abgerissen, weil er dumm genug war, Arbeitshandschuhe an einer Tischkreissäge zu nutzen.
@@glasperle77 der handschuh gibt dir... 3-4mm an deinen fingern oben drauf. wenn du dich an so einer maschine (fairerweise nicht unbedingt an nem brotschneider, aber an einer fräse oder ner kreissäge) um nen millimeter verschätzt und reingreifst, ist das mies kacke. immer. ABER: die Fräse/Säge geht durch fleisch und Knochen wie ein warmes messer durch butter, und säbelt dir eben die spitze ab. wenn der handschuh in die fräse/säge kommt, zieht es manche fasern ins gewinde, andere nicht, die kräfte gehen in vogelwilde richtungen, es zerreißt handschuh und inhalt, die "hand" sieht danach aus wie roher döner. da verliert man lieber eine fingerkuppe als alles.

One finger on my left hand isn't the same since then and the surprise was bigger than expected.

My mom too! We never had a Brotschneidemaschine, even though we always wanted one but our kitchen was so small and with very few plugs. I‘m also not bad at cutting bread ☺️ In the old times, not many bakeries offered to cut the bread for you into slices. And with three kids plus dad having to prepare Butterbrote for a long day there were a lot of bread slices to be needed 😅
If the bread is hard enough i sometimes cut it about 2 mm thick to troll my girlfriend. Perfect is of course 15,3 mm thickness. (Just kidding - it depends on the bread of course).

Eventually my Brotschneidemaschine was broken, so I decided not to replace it with a new one, but save the space in the kitchen and use a bread knife, but sometimes my slices look like the ones cut by Liam.
Du lachst, aber wenn ich war erstmal in Deutschland und hab probiert Brot mit diese Maschine schneiden hab mein Finger kaputt gemacht 😭 Gott sei Dank war nur bisschen Blut und dann mit Pflaster gerettet. Jetzt bin aber Meister in dieser Fach, kann ohne Licht in der Küche ruhig schneiden.

I was using big bread knives at the age of... 4? I don't even remember anymore lmao, never cut myself badly, and while my mum was pretty irresponsible in other things, she just knew I am using knives responsibly and skillfully enough for her to not worry about it😅
