I kinda miss the dark, hopeless, gritty setting.
Matthew Moore sane man the lighting had a lot to do with that feeling in the old GOW games but now everything is bright and blue and red I don’t like it but I gotta admit everything looks beautiful I just miss the dark and gritty feeling

W Castillo thats the game devs trying to cater to the wider gaming community eg cod players. I don’t get why they never just embraced the gears fans from the start. The wider gaming community are fickle and always move on to the shiny new things. The gears players are always there yet Epic/the Coalition resent them in a way.

This is a poem by a British WW1 soldier named Alan Seegers. He died at 18, in a ditch, shot in the stomach, and was reportedly still cheering on his fellow soldiers until the very end. The poem is called Rendezvous with Death.

I remember this got me so psyched for this game. The new Gears just aren't dark like this! Read the book Aspho Fields for an immersive dark world, just like Gears 1 and 2 had.

This is a old ass comment, but aspho fields legit made me cry when towards the end Cole was writing to his deceased mother to try and cope with what was happening. Fuck that shit hit home man.

Dedalus disagreed. Gears 4 is solid, and 5 is all but a masterpiece.
Yah Aspho Fields is great but damn Karen Traviss did a hell of job with the other books as well. The Slab is my favorite in the series, seeing how everyone coped with Marcus's discharge and imprisonment including folks like Tai and Jace was very depth giving.
Also knowing what Marcus went through prior to Gears 1 was a huge eye opener. It really made me understand that first scene between Anya and him.

I used this poem in my Stalingrad dissertation for university 2 years ago, by comparing the battle to the troops of WW1 “going over the top” and how did I hear about this poem, through this trailer as a kid back in 2008, which gave me a lightbulb moment to revisit it. So, I guess I have to say thanks to the Gears designer of this trailer for helping me with my dissertation for the inspiration.

I can`t help but imagine when editor finished it and it was being showed in a conference room to the developers and rest of marketing team there was this long 15 seconds silence when it ended. It`s hard to give opinion on something like this (especially in 2008). "Masterpiece" maybe?

Having come back to this after so long I have to say that the Metro Exodus story trailer is the only one that sticks in my mind now comparable to visual story telling with no character words.

For me 2 of the greatest franchises ever GOW and Halo both made by Bungie and Epic but later destroyed by 343 and Coalition. Both had great campaigns and multiplayer and both had amazing trailers by far the best trailers video games have ever seen.
It is uncanny how similar they are...
Gow and Halo 1-3 are amazing while both 4 and 5 of each are bad. They're very similar. But GOW and Halo are 2 game franchises I will play and always get a nostalgic feeling from no matter what.

Gears 1 was a legit masterpiece. The multiplayer changed the game- feel lucky to have been around to experience it first hand

I remember playing it late into the night at choir camp when I was 17. God damn those were good times. I think I still have Robert's HDMI cable come to think of it...eh, items get mixed up at camps, oh well.

This hits similarly to Halo 3's Starry Night trailer for me. Just Marcus running into the midst's of a raging battle gives the same vibes and the Rendezvous' With Death poem elevates it to a whole other level of awesomeness.

This trailer was so Hype, I love grimdark settings and nothing was more unsettling at the time then one last stab at killing the locust in their hometurf.

After all these years, I just realized how fucking strong Marcus must be, to have carried that Drone the whole way. Then lift & run with it, like it was nothing more than a bag of groceries.
So much nostalgia in this trailer!! I remember being a kid watching this brand new trailer wanting to play gears 2 so bad!! I was even more excited with gears 3 and the new armor they had. So many good memories brought back with just a video. Miss these good old days.
