Joyce and Murray deliver the ransom payment to Enzo's contact Yuri, but he drugs them, planning to turn them over to the Russians for a larger profit. Hopper escapes the prison camp but is soon recaptured. Jonathan, Mike, and Will prepare to sneak away from two of Owens' agents left to watch them, but armed soldiers attack their house. They escape with the help of Jonathan's friend Argyle, bringing an injured agent with them. Nancy and Robin interview Victor Creel at the Pennhurst psychiatric institution. Creel recounts his family being tormented and killed by supernatural forces while he was arrested for their deaths.
Synopsis:
In 1980s Indiana, a group of young friends witness supernatural forces and secret government exploits. As they search for answers, the children unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries.

I've watched so many people react to this episode but the last scene still has me on the edge of my seat and emotional every time. The relief is unreal at the end. Best scene in TV history right there!
That scene really is some of the best filmmaking I've ever seen. And writing. There's so much story and character interwoven there. Plus it instantly secured Sadie Sink's career.
@@NextExiter I couldn't agree more. I am astonished by how well they managed to create the perfect storm of film making. I know all of those kids are going to have good careers after the show ends, but Sadie is truly going places. The talent is amazing in this show.
Great performance by the young actress who plays Max. Heck, all the young actors and actresses are doing amazing work.
This was the best episode of the series tbh.
It showed what having survivor guilt, PTSD, Depression and suicidal thoughts will do to a person.
I think that Max was ready to die. Which was why she wrote a letter to everyone in her life. Her favorite song being “Running Up The Hill” and her running once she see how much she is loved meant the world to her.
Her saying “I’m still here” after making it made me cry.
I love how true it is about how music can reach parts of your brain that words can't. A lot of mental patients respond well to certain pieces of music because it's soothing and works so much better than panicked people asking if you're okay all the time. This episode took me on a journey lol.
Dementia patients do very well with music therapy as well.
Y'all are spot on. After this episode I'm convinced that Vecna is a metaphor for depression. He feeds on trauma, isolates his victims, & works to maximize their loss, shame, & guilt. Love that the writing stresses what a lifeline music can be for those struggling with these feelings.
@@xajaso Spot on, he targets those who feel guilt over someone’s death. Crazy how much thought process has to go into these types of shows to line everything up and make it so perfect to the point where even if I seen the show already it still gives the same feeling as if I’m watching it for the first time.

Yes, all the kids have trauma for what they all went through but I think the Demon targets people who have a strong sense of "guilt" about something that happened.
Max feels guilty for not doing anything to save Billy,
The Father felt guilt for bombing the wrong location during the war which resulted in the death of innocents.
That Kid who felt guilty about the guy who died in the car accident.
The scene with Max is something we all have experienced at least once in our lifetime. Depression, guilt & anguish. Questioning your existence and wondering if the ppl who care about really are there for you.
That scene was poetic & very well written.
The scene in the house when they come under fire is also awesome. The filming of that scene was perfection.
21:29 The complimentary acting by Lucas, Dustin, and Steve accentuates Max's performance of exacerbated relief in center stage. Their voices pleading to Max were top-notch throughout the ordeal.

Vecna only goes after people with trauma and guilt hence why he doesn’t go after Will and Finn.
Actually he most likely will go after Will. The reason why he hasn't is because he's in California

Loved this discussion and reaction! I cried hard during this scene and I agree that this was a metaphor for depression and not letting it take your life away which sadly happens to a lot of people. Max is my favorite character too!

you know.. this scene, will forever be known as THAT Scene. so whenever someone mention "that scene" without any context, that person is referring to the "Max Escape Vecna Scene" I mean.. as a tough stoic aussie nutjob, this made me went bat shit insane after a ride of roller coaster of emotions like a 30 year old virgin woman on period. Seriously. O . o hahaha
It definitely seems if he catches you before you can get that lifeline through the music you are screwed. But if maybe if you get that lifeline from the jump you just got to get straight to it before getting caught up in his trap.

Vecna was a god-tier wizard character in D&D. He has been named as one of the greatest villains in this role playing game. Vecna possessed a number of tremendous powers, including the ability to paralyze others with his touch, inherently cast a variety of powerful spells, and alter reality at will.

So it's probably all the negativity bias incessant thoughts our species' have evolved via natural selection for survival purposes. Our distant ancestors in the nomadic wild need to keep in check the threats that lurk in particular areas in nature and people within the clan or those of rival clans... albeit such hard-wired mechanism is out of place, and unhealthy for us in modern society.

This season is basically Nightmare on elm street and I am here for it. Least fav character this season is easily Will - just boring. Loved the Halloween stuff in season 2 and the summer time 80s starcourt mall in season 3 but I think most people will look back after ST is over and prob say season 4 was there fav season. The Vecka character is great. And you 2 do a good analysis.
