- I figured it was time we got back to working on the 1961 Chevrolet BelAir bubbletop sport coupe that we rescued last year. I had rounded up some body parts and glass along with a four door sedan donor car since then so lets make this car that much closer to being roadworthy! As always, thanks for watching!

Also, thank you so much for what you do for us all, is a lot of extra work we really enjoy it and I’m grateful to have this program that I can watch with my young boys and they don’t learn anything bad it’s funny and edgy and very educational and my boys love the turn wrenches
Glad you and your boys enjoy our picture show Darren!
61 Bel Air bubble top $280.500 highest sale.
Duff got a great nose but can you hunt

You would think Mr Impala there in Iowa would have any missing parts you might need
You and puddin always make mondays more enjoyable thank you
100% agree!!!!!!!!!!!
Never anticipated a Monday on the weekend before these entertainers slash getter dunners came around awesome people
Never anticipated a Monday on the weekend before these entertainers slash getter dunners came around awesome people
Agree
I also agree with you bro
Paint it the door blue, fix what needs fixing and enjoy the ride.
Great seeing you so exited about the Belair, I'm happy to see a long term project being shown.
Come on Mortske, you know that classic, gorgeous bubble top deserves a whole lot of lovin & some paint thrown at her.
That has to be the USAs best ever roof design... EVER!!
Totally stunning.
Would love to see a feature length on this car, best one you've had to date👍👍🏴
Went from parts car to project car. Nice Job! The rims and tire combo with the stance is cool. Throw the 4 speed in it and have a cool 70’s style hot rod.
It’s been a long day but coming home and watching Mortske at night is always good
I’m a 75 year old retired EE and college professor. You and your video’s inspired me to take on a “ Mortske Build”, Found a 2003 one owner GMC Sierra short bed regular cab( my favorite style) on FB market place($2K). Wheel wells needed filled up so back to FB marketplace. 2008 17” GMC alloys with center caps and lug nuts( $160). Got a trifold bed cover (black) $150( FB MP). The truck needed rear fender rust and rocker repair. FB MP again; OEM fender flares and Bushwacker black rocker covers. ($50). Truck is silver; runs and drives great; looks great with the black accents and bigger wheels and tires. Thinking about dropping it down a bit. Great good looking ride. Total cost under $2.5k. “ Doesn’t matter how you are gettin’ it done, long as you’re havin’ fun.” Keep up the great work. Love the bubble top build.
Sounds like a sweet project on a budget!
Sleek lines on those bubble tops, just classic. Not to mention, the chrome still glistens in the sunshine as she whips snownuts. Nice.
Also, bloopers, awesome addition!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome job on the '61! As you know I love '61's, and drool every time you post a video on them. Love the steelies, and I would leave it at that. Thinking of throwing steelies back on my '71 chevelle, but like you, it's all about the budget. Thanks again Mortske for another week of entertainment!
Our pleasure!
Love this episode. I think flat black, red pinstrip and red interior. I enjoy watching you and Brent at half-ass customs, just two guys doing what they love, sharing it with us plus both have they best "supervisors", Sir Duff and Pablo and Buddy. Have a great week.
Same to you!
Ya, a Great car! It's Hard to Beat a BubbleTop! A 427 Turbo setup Would do the car Justice.Hopefully with a 12bolt Posi. Your choices of OLD IRON IS VERY INTERESTING AND ENVIABLE!.
It would be kind of cool with a Half-ass Coop, and maybe ROADTRIP!
I would love that!
Dr Mortske...The Chevy surgeon... The cracked bracket chiropractor... You operate the best hot rod hospice on the Tube, hands down!
Thanks much for the kind words Devin!
Good to see the Principality of Lord Duff now outfitted with rugs, pads, and cushions throughout the shop domain to provide proper rest and relaxation between rides and scouting duties. Next thing you know, Chin will equip Duff with a mobile cam for a 'Duff's eye view' while surveying his Kingdom!
Well Done Sir Thomas Mortske...love The Duff!
Great to see some of the projects come along. I like the will it runs, but it's good to see something come of them as well.
Glad you enjoy them!
Mom and dad 61 Chevy I was interested in the car but I live in Canada it would cost too much to ship it to me
@@marktippin5802 how much would shipping be? Or find someone with a car trailer and owes you one!
I absolutely love what you're doing with the Bel Air. Looking forward to seeing what comes next. Keep up the great work and The fine videos 👍✌️🇺🇲
Will do Kenneth!
My dog Remy watched this today while I was at work, now I’m watching it. Cool car and that tow truck is sweet!!!
Very cool
Yanking that bubble top out of the snow gives new meaning to the description of snowmobile. You gotta be looking forward to July when that N.D. snow melts.
haha
Had to give Duff and you a 👍 up after those awesome snow nuts. I noticed the rpms reached a satisfying crescendo, and oh, what a sweet, sweet song that ol 283 was singing. She's a keeper.
I love this build philosophy. So many cars are torn down for full restorations and the project stalls, and this looks like way more fun.
And that's where they die! Sure is!
Best video in a while. I really like that old car. Kinda reminds me of an old super stock racecar from back in the day. On a side note… still looking forward to the COE making a comeback.
Road salt, tire chains, windshield scrapers Long John's, Sorel snow boots, block heaters, snow shovels, frostbitten fingers and slipping and falling on my ass at least once every winter are no longer a part of my life , can get down to 32 degrees Fahrenheit here and it's cold enough for me I'm getting shivers and exposure just watching you. And Duff having all that fun, don't walk under any icicles, but you probably already knew that lol
Happy Mortske Monday! It's cool seeing you do these kinds of videos. It shows collecting parts for a car and putting them on pays off in slowly building a car peice by peice. Like most of us are trying to do. Also are you and Brent ever gonna Collab? I think that's something we all wanna see!
Johnny Cash style! No plans on a collab.
Man I like the way Art sits great tire choice and the suspension just put new sho KS all around.... leave it enjoy it. It was nice to see Chin alot of people don't know he works alot behind the scenes. Great show Mortske. 👏
Thanks!
"Getting hoods on things in 2023." Now that's a worthwhile motto! I like her a lot, especially with all the different colors.
Man, the 61 and 62 are my favorite Impalas/Bel Air/Biscayne. The curved A pillar and sort of restrained styling gets me every time.
Great project. Love seeing these classics get restored. I know I wouldn't be able to do it especially when it's cold out
That bubbletop is SWEET ! Thanks for keeping us entertained.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Morts and Duffs,, Monday night sucks lesser!😁✌
Hey Mortske 👋, you and Duff make Mondays more enjoyable. The bubble top looks good. Thanks for sharing and have a great week ahead 👍
Thanks, you too!
The tow truck is the best . Bernie is a fine name for it ,you really should keep it. Really enjoying the build videos ,you do great work . There's a half a million slack jawed fellers doing will it start, its nice to see you doing quality work.
Thanks for the kind words.
"Bernie" is perfect. BUT ... Mortske needs to get s snow blower. We even have them in Chicago.
Would love to see you and duff do a full build on this bubble top
Keep rattling on about your vehicle it's what we all do in our heads best bang-for-the-buck you make it happen love the tips and tricks thank you motivates me to do a little more on mine
Thanks 👍
You ,Mojo and Duff really outdone yourselves this time awesome car. But Chin manhandling his car out of a snow bank by himself, now that just one awesome dude
Don't mess with him!
As much as "will it run" and fix it enough to drive videos are entertaining, there's just something great about watching ya cobble together various parts cars to make a "complete-ish" project. Always a toss up which vid to watch 1st on Mondays: you or Puddin. Super excited to see a build!
Yeah, this is reality in restorations. You find less rotted out parts where you can.
I think Bernie is fitting. It looks like a Bernie.. not to mention it says Bernie on the side. Not often does a car physically tell you it's name.. lol so in a short answer... Bernie
Appreciate the feedback!
@@MortskeRepair 😁👍
That's sweet unit rims always get a guy going didn't watch this Monday saved it for Saturday morning 4am no one to interfere with the best utube show ever appreciate ur work
What a Difference, you are doing the Lords Work, One Rusted Patina American Classic at a Time. Appropriate you having us along & I’ll Catch You on the next one. Keep it Safe Out There Sir & Rub Duff Behind the Ear for Me,
That tow truck is in amazing condition and definitely a keeper! Though not PC in word we live in today, I would call it the Pale Hooker!
A quality Mortske production, right there.
I like the stance it has right now. Flat black paint and red/black interior. I live only on my crappy VA disability, so I don't have a project. I have to dream and live through others. Keep having fun Mortske.
I love seeing these classic rigs get another chance at life!
One of the things that set you apart from vice grip is your shop is more like an ICU, while Derek just hits them with defibrillators and tries to drives them 500 miles.
Great looking glass install!
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your talents and knowledge with us and giving me some quality video to watch. I typically watch 2 every night
My pleasure!
Can I just say that I really appreciate the music you put in this week's episode? That song that came in around 28 minutes in was killer 🤘🏾
Much appreciated!
For a few minutes there I thought I was watching Brent from Half-assed Customs. He has mad fabrication skills. The car looks like a car again. I hope we get to see some more of it soon.
Your commentary in all your videos.. top notch brother. Keep up the good work. I canceled cable because of dudes like you. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Duffy feckin loves the snow!! WOO-HOO!
Ahhh. Just settled in for a Mortske Monday!!! Ole Puddin Bibs is on deck!!
Looks great as is❗An Duff still maintains his composure. What a beast always there for you. 🙂
Great to see this car up and running. Thinking back to where it came from makes it even more amazing.
Couldn't agree more!
Mortske, great video! I'd leave the body just the way it is, put the rest of the glass in it, fix the brakes and tune it up and drive it. Driveline upgrades and other fixes as time allows.
That's the plan!
Better and better every Monday. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks for the kind words!
I would love to see some work on that quarter panel on a future episode. Either fixed, or replaced. Thanks for this Mortske.
You got it!
Lovin the new format, thanks for the entertainment.
Our pleasure Simon!
That car would look so awesome painted satin black with those wheels and tires and all that Chrome
It's great you have Mojo there to help. Give him a high five. Tell him he has a Fan here!
Will do
In your shoes, I'd keep White Hxxker.... and I agree, she's beautiful, almost too clean & nice to keep. What a hell of a job getting out of that spot. I had my doubts too. Thought something would break in the process. 😅 That interior is impressive! Absolutely sexy rig!
Got to the window install part of the video, and that was impressive. You made it look so easy and like you knew what you were doing. That's the one thing I have yet to do, install a windshield or back window. I've done everything else there is to do on vehicles, overhauling engines, trannys, difs, transfer cases, pumps, etc. Pretty cool to watch you bring cars back around, keeping old vehicles alive.... and then recording a lot of it in the process. I know how recording, making sure you get decent shots, and the worst part.... editing it all can be so dang time consuming and makes the job at hand much longer to complete (I know you have Chin that helps too though). Excellent job at being consistant. Huge props
@1:03:00 wow! Just wow! 😍😍 I'm so jealous. What character! Seriously, just beautiful job!
@@CubasAutomotive Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comments!
Mortske kicks ASS. HES SO COL AND SMART.
Wow, them caps brought it to life!
Mortske Mondays! love this one. especially the snownuts
So cool to see a project coming together. So hey... an idea for those hinge springs. Take the long end of a ratchet strap and hook it to the back arm of the hinge. Now wrap it towards the back of the hood and go over the top of the hood and around the leading edge. Then hook the ratchet end to the end of the spring you're trying to connect. Then ratchet away. No strain, no stress. Your idea worked too and nobody died.
Thanks for the tip!
That was a fun watch, I like the direction you are going, keep it up
Much appreciated!
Duff gets it done despite the lack of thumb 👍
It looks great!! Love to see you working on it. Finish up what it needs, and paint it blue like the door. I love the look of those cars
Love that Ford wrecker. I remember back in 74 a friend had a 2 tone blue f250 . Sweet trucks. Hope you keep it. It adds a little class to the shop.
Impressive Sir Morticus! I enjoyed watching you scavenging parts and patching the bad spots. I learned a few things for sure! Two thumbs 👍👍!
Glad to hear it!
My man, just got home to watch a great episode. Thank you
Nice solid work. Great glass job. Keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
That engine has a lovely sound to it. Crisp and throaty and with a menacing howl when opened up. Any exhaust put on the vehicle has GOT to preserve that essence.....
Great to see this old beasty again, mate. Love what you've done to her. It's amazing how just doing a few things to make it more cosmetically appealing can change one's entire attitude to taking it further, eh.
I've had a garage full of crap over our winter and all three of my classics sat outside in the front yard.....and got tree muck, bird muck and road grime pasted on them...and so as a reward, they grew me some of the ol' black mould and lichens all over their paint work and even ended up with a thick growth of moss growing in some areas on each car. The spiders had moved in early on as well. Down here, the spiders build webs that can withstand a fairly hefty gale and they kept going until there was a thick and complex mat between the inner fenders, the wheels, the rockers and the ground. Any gaps between the B pillar and the door(s) were likewise webbed shut up the door jamb and across the face of the door. The wing mirrors were near twice their size and the wipers and bumpers likewise. I waited until mid-spring and hit all three with 3000psi from my pressure washer and it was like they had just been parked there again! Suddenly, I wanted to work on them or at least make them look their best so they didn't look like glorified yard art. Out with the buffer and the tyre black and in a few hours they looked grouse. Now I want to get into the two that haven't moved in six months and sort out the reasons I parked them, but with Auckland's weather - even in summer - one cannot predict how long one has dry conditions and they are things I cannot leave half done and nor afford the car to get wet while they are off.....so the garage needs sorted. Problem is that the area I was going to use to put several garage things while I sorted the rest is shortly to become the storage area for the contents of my eldest's flat when she moves home after finishing her studies in a week or so, so I now have my work cut out for me. However, motivation is high because I want to see all three classics on the road again by winter.....even if I then only use them on good days until spring.
As to the bubble top, mate - I reckon you try pushing the dents out on that driver's rear quarter (and any other bit that annoys you), get some glass in it, do the floorpans, chuck in some seats - any damn seats - and drive the beast as is until you are inspired to do something further with the panel work.....if you ever feel the need. To be honest, with those blue doors and where the body needs some primer on the driver's quarter, I am so much reminded of the '64 hardtop coupe "Love Machine" that Cheech Marin drove in Up In Smoke. I'd personally like to see you rattle can some satin black over the white on the front clip and do a sort-of bubble-top tribute to that car....at least until it's final exterior look is decided. Wheels have to be Torq Thrust classics (unpolished of course) whether you did an exterior tribute or not.
I too love that blue on the doors, but she's have to be a damn good body to paint it all that colour. Flat black looks too much like a blackboard and kids will write all over it with chalk when you park it in town. That roof looks like it would come up well - and parts of the rear end the same, if not a bit patinad. I reckon a satin (semi-gloss) finish would probably tie in well to the weather-worn paint left on it and since she was originally black, it also seems fitting to me that she stays that colour if she was to be tarted up at all. As always, I myself would chuck a manual box in it, but as long as the auto is functioning well, that can be done if and when needed. Same with swapping out seats to something more your liking, but the biggest thing is to get into it and drive it as soon as it can be done. For TRUE motivation, nothing beats being able to drive the car as well as do it up bit by bit as you want it to be. All the best, mate.
Sounds like you need a bigger garage!
@@MortskeRepair - yeah I reckon. I'll have to start me a youtube channel, eh? 🤣
@@KiwiStag74 Now we're talkin!
I love the look with a different color fenders and doors. It’s good
it was about time we see some tow truck action! thank you
Great video. Next rubber sealed glass you do. Start at the bottom, in this instance, gravity is your friend! and a little silicone spray. Guess you couldn't hear me from WI!!
Thanks again. Lot of these kinds of videos out there...keep coming back for more Duff
i really enjoyed the hood spring comedy bit. true entertainment
Thanks for another great video Mortske, it's always great to see Duff Dog hard at work 😁👍
My pleasure!
Good thing you had help putting the car together
four speed!!! why, yes, Yes I think that's a MUST!!! I love your work!!!!!
Thanks Tom
“I lichen it”!! LOL! Boy, you got a lot done on that Belaire! That Mojo is a good helper. I enjoyed the Mortske/Mojo show. 👍🙂
He sure is!
Had a friend in high-school, had a 62 bubble top, black red interior, 283 4 spd . He put barrels under the rear springs with air shocks , 10 inch cragars with n 50 -15s on back , 409 springs and ball joint spacers up front . 7 inch cragars with g 78 -15s in front . Mile high stance , it was the 70s , beautiful car , good luck with yours
Sweet rig!
I grew up around old cars my uncle had a 55 plymouth wagon he drove until the salt ate it up my grandfather always had old what grandma called clunkers but hey 50's and 60s chevys for him watching you and I am 55 now brings back memories of us wandering the scrap yards for parts and fixing the old girls up. Thank you for doing this not something I can do now but I can watch :).
OUr pleasure!
It’s very cool to see you getting excited about the old bubble top!
1961 Chevy is my dream car, I have had 67-68 Camaro's and a 70 Nova Hot Rods when I was in my 20's. I would like to build at least one more car and I am leaning towards an early 60's Chevy. Something to just put miles on. preferably somewhere warm in the winter. I have had enough fun in the extreme Northern Wisconsin winters. It is great to see the progress, especially, the more work than money concept. Besides, gathering used parts to keep the cost down is the best part of getting these cars back on the road.
What a good rig. Like to see more on it. Deserves a little attention. Definitely worth putting more time into it.
One of my favorite videos. All the un fun stuff that makes a huge difference and we got to see donuts from the outside. I dig it 👍
Your fabricobbling skills are on point!!! Thanks for all your hard work!!!
Our pleasure David!
Loved the blooper reel. That's a keeper. 96 obs chevy z71 stepside. My highschool truck. full refurb for one of boys when they get ready to drive. It sat the entire length of my marriage till my divorce 🙃. Now three years later all we're waiting on is paint. Getting done and have fun!!!!
Awesome!
Leave it as it is. Looks like a true survivor! Kinda like the idea of going back to a 4 speed. And the stance is perfect!
I think you should put more work into that sweet BelAir, it certainly gets me excited. Love the Duff Dog hub caps.
The bubbletop is looking real mean. I kind of like the idea of leaving the paint the way it is. Glad to see it coming together.
I agree!
Hood spring removal/installation hack: close the hood like halfway, the coils should spread apart. Stick a big flat washer in between a few of the coils. One washer per coil, or whatever you have room for. Now, when you open the hood, the spring won't "spring", and should be floating on the hook mounts, or it might just fall off of them. Keep the washers in there for re-installation. I have also taken new springs and put them in a vise, then use a prybar down the center of the spring to open the coils up and insert the washers. Oh, and that hood-holder-upper, I have the same exact one, and it works great for all kinds of holding needs!
Thanks for the tip!
Bad ass tow truck this is one of your best segments brother please keep it up. Peace out !!!!!
Its impressive how much you get done on your projects in a very short amount of time. 👍👍👍
Had a 61 bubble top (61 to 66)..........V8 3 speed trans, Twilight Turquoise, I put dual exhaust on in Vegas (USAF) Firestone 500 tires.........❤❤❤❤Loved it.....I am a big fan/proponent of the small block Chevy V8's.........great engine/motor.....
Love the way the channel is going! Nah, I´m just here for the rants and the Duff dog.
haha
Can really see it’s potential now, well done!
That car has a lot of potential. Thank you for good videos.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for bringing that ‘61 back! Having all those spare parts to choose from and watch go on the car was GREAT! I know it was a lot of work for you but, very satisfying to watch! And last but not least, Thank You for the Snownuts! Great content & Video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the content! Thanks to you and a couple other channels, I am rebuilding a 1968 C10. You are right they do snowball quite quickly. But you are also right, just small changes encourage you to keep going. Thanks again!
Sounds like a good project!
You really kicked butt on this project. Can hardly wait to see the finished product.
I see Duff gave the glass install a thumbs up!
car is looking good. cant wait for more on this project!
Appreciate ya and all you share! Love the bubble top. Keep after it! Would be nice see ya complete something start to finish. Name that wrecker the Mortske Prime Time Mover! 😂👍👊🙏
