I am pleased to find your channel and get a glimpse into your thinking and note-taking systems. I look forward to future videos. Like you I have an EDC small format notebook that I transfer out of, but in my case into a single Commonplace Book with sections devoted to my main interests. On my desk I also have an A4 Jotter for 'working out' first thoughts and a Journal for more reflective writing and planning. Good luck with the channel.

You have so many beautiful little notebook's i love both big and small notebook's but my favourite it's a little thin notebook to put in my pockets I do a lot of grocery shopping list I do my cleaning list I do everything in a tiny little notebook that I could put in my pocket when i am on the go ✔ thank you for making amazing videos about tiny notebook's ❤💜💖💗💓💕💞

You have a highly useful channel. Practical. Your thoughts are welcome additions to my problem solving situations. I'm approaching 500 notebooks in research and development as a scientist and personal notes. I always start with an analog notebook first, then digital iPad Procreate later, for clean up of designs. Please keep posting more of your thoughts.

@@BlankFirstPage My 433 numbered notebooks are a mix of A4 and A5, 200 pages each filled with designs & explanations, started 1974. Plus, many more unnumbered mostly A5 and A6 field records. Mostly these are Rite in the Rain or equivalent. Not all are still with me for various reasons. I still make science fiction concept art illustrations/diagrams (drawings, watercolors and oils) for fun in my studio.
@@ravinwind6860 Thanks so much for sharing! What an amazing collection. I've never tried Rite in the Rain, I have one Alwych 'All Weather' notebook which is a similar idea but I don't think it has as much water resistance.
@@BlankFirstPage RITR is great for watery field situations but is limited to (waterproof) oil-based ball points (e.g. Jetstream is better than average). Even the Fisher Space Pen feathers/bleeds-through and then transfers on to the next page making it unreadable over time. So I write on only one side. Other side gets taped inserts. Soft dark pencils (e.g. Blackwing Matte/Pearl, Prismacolor Ebony) work too, . . . but will smudge. Even more waterproof is the RITR "DuraRite". I usually just use the standard RITR. But RITR's DuraRite is very good.
FYI: I use 12 fountain pens (Lamy and Twsbi) on Rhodia dot and grid paper everyday. Only my Rohrer and Klingner Dokumentus Magenta ink dries fast enough on RITR. My EDC pocket pen is (still after 50 years) a Fisher bullet with RITR ink. EDC pencils are a 0.7mm 2B mechanical (several brands, Zebra M-402 is my favorite) and a used (short) Blackwind Matte capped with an Midori MD stainless steel pencil protector. The felt tipped EDC is a Tombow Monotwin (alcohol). So as you can see we both carry similar analog systems. Keep in mind I "tweek" these for drawing diagrams and annotating them . . . very little "journaling".

I have always wanted a space pen, but haven't bought one yet. I think that might be my next pen purchase.
I've just started using more mechanical pencils, bought a Muji 0.5mm last week, super cheap and simple but I'm enjoying the larger size refill. I'll have to try a 0.7mm like you mention.
I've never had such a difficult time choosing notebooks/journals for a new year. Field Notes is nowhere near large enough or thick enough or sturdy enough for my needs. I splurged and bought a new Moleskine Expanded, a new Leuchtturm1917, a new Rhodia, a new Endless, a new Oxford Black n' Red, several Exceed A5 journals, three Exceed Bullet Journals, four Apica spiral bound, and nine hard cover Exceed pocket notebooks because I know I'll use these. I know I'll use these, but which of the others gets a nod is still up in the air. Probably the Oxford Black n' Red, the Exceed bullet journal, and, as always, an A4 sketchbook for brainstorming.
But I'm still not sure. I have more than fifty notebooks and journals, not counting these new ones. I can't resist them. But as long as I have the hardcover Exceed pocket notebooks and the sketchbook, I can get through January.

I like spacing my purchases out if I can because then I get to enjoy the buying process over and over. Although it’s fun having mountains of new notebooks! Better to have more and not know which to use than too few and run out.
I just subscribed to your channel today after watching a few videos. I was a Field Notes subscriber for a few years and have accumulated a good amount. They keep coming out with editions that make me want to subscribe again but I stop myself haha. Also I wanted to turn on notifications but I think you have your channel set as aimed at children and it won’t let me. Just a heads up in case you didn’t know!

Have you tried keeping different subjects separated in sections of your fieldnotes EDC? How do you ensure that you've transferred everything you need to, do you put a mark next to it in the prior notebook to show that it's been transferred? Thanks for the video and interested in your tips moving forward.
I don't try to keep subjects separate - I just write on the next available page. Otherwise I start stressing about how many pages to leave for that particular subject.
When I've transferred something out of the EDC, I'll strike a big, single line through it. That keeps it legible, but it's super clear that it's been dealt with in that particular notebook. And by contrast, anything that's not been struck through is clearly still of importance!

Thank you for sharing your process. Do you have any way of marking as you go the notes you wish to transfer at the end of the notebook or do you just re-read the whole notebook during the change of guard and try to identify what was important?
I don't have any particular method. Sometimes I'll just circle it, but in my process I go through the whole notebook again (part of the fun!) and will pick up what I need from that flip through!
I wish you could get the national park ones with dotted pages. Any idea if feild notes are planning on doing that in the future?
No idea but definitely agree - dot pages are the best
Hi, how do manage weight a fountain pen on the field notes? I’ve bought a few and the bleed through is pretty intense. Maybe I’m doing something wrong
Hey, partly I just tolerate the bleed through. But it depends on the pen. I use Fine nibs so there’s already less ink flowing, and the ink (I assume) makes a difference too. The main/only ink I use is Platinum carbon black and it does ok. The field notes paper also varies between editions, but I have used fountain pens on the thinnest paper and I can make do. Again I stress that I do get bleed through but I tolerate it and it’s never too much that I can’t write on the opposite side. Fine nib plus light touch might make the biggest difference, hope that helps!
Do you also use the Field Notes Signature Series? 😃
I had a subscription at the time of the dime novel editions, so I have used that style before, and I bought a pack of the signatures too.
They’re great notebooks but they don’t quite fit my EDC needs - I used both the dime and the signature editions as work notebooks, they were good for that.
The version I really like in a similar format is the end papers edition, really like that slim design!

I like those field notes notebooks. But I’m weird and hate that it says field notes on the front. If they were blank I’d buy a ton

I’ve seen those. I’m headed to a shop that has both and am going to take a look at both side by side. Watched a couple of your videos and am getting convinced on the field notes despite the cover.
