  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. We don't need to wait for a crisis to start making decisions about how we will act when confronted with challenges in life.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Powerful stuff. I was diagnosed with incurable cancer 5 years ago. I chose to have another child. And I chose to raise money for research. I ran half of the Chicago marathon this week even though I'm headed for more chemo next month. Crisis definitely woke me up for the better. Make every day count.

Powerful! None of us can have too many reminders that it is how we choose to react and view crisis - and any difficult part of life - that makes or breaks us. Thank you, and well done. XO

Bravo Joseph. The bold beauty your language and the arc of the story drive home the subtext without having to say it out loud: practice bravery and courage every day, so you're really good at those skills when you really need them.
