Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time CZcamsr with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. On my channel you'll find lots of videos about drugstore makeup and drugstore dupes (those are my favorites to film!) but I also review high-end makeup as well. I think with whatâs happening with the economy and cost of essentials going up so much, affordable makeup brands are hoping to get some market share from high end cosmetic brands. I think its a wonderful thing. I have long thought that when you buy high end makeup, most of the time, youâre paying for the packaging and the name brand. A lot of this stuff is made in the same factory with different packaging. But the actual product is the same thing. Iâd rather save my money and be able to take a nicer vacation, or a vacation at all, instead of contributing to Charlotte Tilburyâs already lavish lifestyle. But thatâs just me.

I agree. Thanks to Jen and a few others I am finding items I like significantly better than the high end products I used to use. Plus I can try more things since Iâm not paying $40 a product
It's not just your thought it's an industry fact you pay for the name and perceived luxurious packacking as most is mass produced too w any high end and luxury. They have a much bigger profit margin because their products cost them so much less than what they sell for. They spend more on marketing than ingredients or development. Once the brands throw in "rare" ingredients they up the price even more and sell it in their prestige lines

I was always of the mind that $$$ = better. Drugstore makeup has greatly improved over the past few years, so much so that I look first at brands like elf, Milani, NYX, etc. No sense wasting $$$ when these brands are as good as, or better than, the big names.

Drug store foundations are killing it. Since they've really expanded their shade range I think they are the better option over high end.

Thank you Jen for giving those of us who are on a budget some fantastic new things to try. I never have fomo for high-end makeup when I watch your channel. Personally I would rather spend my money on travel and saving to renovate my home than on makeup that just gets washed off at the end of the day.

@@JenPhelps Is the Bare With Me Concealer really good at camouflaging dark circles? I have them below and above my eyes! Plus, the skin in my eye crease is for some strange reason slightly rough textured-to the point where blending eyeshadows is almost impossible. Depressing! I need to find an opaque concealer that provides a nice *smooth* canvas that allows me to easily blend shadows, but doesnât crease. So far I havenât found one.
@@LoveABun I used to have the same problem with my eyelids & it turned out it was a bad reaction to eye creams & serums. When I just stopped using them the issue corrected itself.

The new elf O face lipsticks are, I think, the best formula that they have ever launched. They are a huge improvement over the Srsly Satin lipsticks, which I thought were very dry and the packaging was super cheap.
I completely agree! I wasn't a fan of those either but these are amazing! I'd gladly pay a few extra dollars for them. :)

I think you're right on the money with what you said at the end Jen! Drugstore brands are increasing prices and by "duping" high end makeup, they can sort of trick us into thinking that the higher prices aren't really so bad. I mean, if they formulas are better and they truly compete with the high end brands then I don't mind paying a few dollars more for a product.
Exactly! If a good dupe and less than original then I am all about it! It doesn't matter if something low cost and lower quality. Choose what you pay for!

I love that you found these products before I wasted my money on high end. I donât buy much high end products anymore but sometimes I feel like I have to. Thatâs definitely not the case anymore. Iâll just wait a few weeks/months and youâll find it at a price I can afford.

I just received the nyx today. I swatched it and instantly liked it more than the tarte cloud cover. I'm gonna check out the elf lipstick. I feel $9 is high but with the magnetic cap it seems worth it. Plus can use the $3.50 coupon if purchasing other items at ulta or wait for a sale. Loved this video Jen!
I think drugstore brands are killing it! And I believe u are right about tit being the year for dupes! Probably too because of how the world looks right now and prices and "shortages",although it seems since the "plan-demic", it has all fallen. But because og what's all going on, drugstore brands trying to give us the very best for the most affordable! And I love that!

The Elf lipstick is a spot on dupe. Wow. And in my opinion, you cannot beat LâOrĂ©al mascaras. They are top notch and beautiful. And I canât wait to try the Milani mascara. It should be in any day now. I love the Thrive mascara and hope that they actually have duped it.

Wow! Thats really something with the elf lippy. Tho I was slightly offended by the name, I will definitely look over the colors and try one. I got the Milani mascara because of your review of it and I love it! It gets little dots at the ends of my lashes sometimes, but easily can pinch them off. I am careful to wipe off excess product before applying which makes a huge difference. The brow stuff from elf looks interesting. I am hoping you can demo all the new Milani shadow palettes. Thanks for all you do!

I do think drugstore prices are getting ridiculous. In the case of this lipstick it is quite a savings! But somehow I miss the old $1-3 ELF.
Can I just say; I wish brands would drop the overtly sexual names. I find them vulgar and unnecessary. For instance, I looked at the new Colourpop palettes at Target for one of my son's girlfriends for Christmas. The one I like for her was called "Send Nudes." Just.....no. I'm not buying that for a young girl. Gorgeous colors, terrible names.

Also W7 mascara makes a great brown one called it's Brown by W7 and really brown mascara it's my fave brown one it's only 4.50 and I highly recommend if you have shorter eyelashes and want more volume and length without a high end price this is a great choice.

I have Never! tried a Foundation or Concealer like what Mally has made. THAT GAL! Knows Cosmetics! And Mally formulated her New Duo also. Just wanted you to know. She also makes a Corrector that is Awesome! It is Skincare not Concealer. But it brightens and lifts the eye area. It is So Good! I can't even explain it!? I have Never tried anything like it before. And it's not sparkle or glitter. It's like a Lifting Eye Bright!
Iâm so glad I watched this video! I recently purchased the new Milani mascara and used it yesterday. I was running late and hurriedly applied it and was immediately hit with how wet it was and was disappointed( loved how easy it came off though). Will definitely not give up on it. It would be interesting to know when the dupes are under the same umbrella brand as the high end. It would explain the same formula as I think they share labs.
Interestingly I don't think any of them are under the same umbrella brand! I'm thinking many of them may have just taken the ingredient list to their own labs and said, "recreate this!".
@@JenPhelps Lancome Corp owns L'Oreal but other than that.... I don't know of another. But with all the chemistry / technology today how hard is it to analyze a product in a lab for the ingredients?? We always have known it's all in the packaging!! Look at Wet n Wildđ€Łđ€Żđ€Łđ

I'm more than happy to pay the $9 for the Elf lipsticks, I mean, not only has the packaging been changed to feel more high end but the actual formula (most important) is veering on the luxury side of lipsticks. I'm usually a Dior/Givenchy/VB user and these Elf lippies more than deserve a place with them!! Yes, I was very surprised.

If you like those brands, try the Lancome L'Absolu Rouge Hydrating Lipstick line. Itâs fabulous! They are the only ones that donât rub off on my coffee cup and will last on me for several hours! The color Coquette is universally flattering. Itâs a pink with a slight peach tint. Looks more peachy in photos than it actually is. Really pretty color.

From her foundation to the lip products (all) and now, her eyeshadow. I only bought two palettes (Vega and Myth) but they are of TF quality at a much more reasonable price. I just got my new O face elf lipstick, love it. I got shameless and love the color and it's such a nice formula, worth the price. I also got the halo glow liquid filter to try though I rarely use foundation.
