I got this for Christmas in 2001 along with a PS2. I was so blown away by how incredible it looked compared to Madden 2000 on Playstation. It wasn't like now when the graphics and frame rate improve a little going from PS3 to PS4 or PS4 to PS5.... Going from Madden on Playstation to Madden on Playstation 2 was like entering a whole new universe. I probably played this game longer than any other Madden game.
Absolutely…couldn’t have said it better…the step up from PlayStation the previous year was mind blowing….kinda like playing Mario in 3D for the first time
The change in graphics definitely is crazy. However, I think the graphics on Madden 2001 on PS1 are certainly impressive in their own right.
@@chaceruble2264 Yep, similar how Super Mario Bros went to Mario 64. But this Madden era jump was the biggest in gaming history to me because it felt so real.
Reminds me of how I went from Madden 10 on PS2 to Madden 11 on PS3 when I got it for Christmas in 2010.

People don't understand just how big of an evolutionary leap this game was on PS2 from the previous year on PS1. I was working a job where I had 4 days off in a row, just working the entire weekend basically, and my roommates had bought this, so while they were at work Mon-Thurs, I just played this thing all day long.. I got so good, I'd beat them 49-0 routinely, because they still hadn't caught on to this amazing concept of setting your feet before throwing, or not sprinting into a tackle, causing a much larger fumble chance, etc. The visual difference probably doesn't do it justice, but I remember being amazed at the difference between the two games just one year apart.
Madden 64 was amazing for the time of football games. In 1997 that game looked so realistic.
This game has better sound than Madden 23
Such a classic and when this game came out, it was a whole new type of gameplay...revolutionary. Will never forget the feeling of owning it and playing it for the first time..the Eddie George cover, the graphics, the everything. It was all perfect.

2001 was a terrible year since it was the last year of the dreamcast 🤣 but I do remember my cousin getting a PS2 around the summer of that year and we played tf out of this and at the time nothing was like it except NFL 2K1 but the presentation and graphics were way better at the time.
The game play was waaaay better , than it is now

Dude I was poor growing up so I got a PS1 for Christmas a year before PS2 came out, I was playing Madden 98, and then 2001 when I got it the following Christmas. My family used to go window shopping at random stores and I remember seeing this on display at Circuit City when I played it. I was mind blown. I will never forget the feeling. 😞😞😞

People won’t understand the jump in graphics from the year before! It was night and day!! Then add on to the fact that a few years prior we got sega graphics
Wow. This game is still awesome. Slick menu and hud design and no bullshit filler. Presentation used to be way better! Still no damn halftime show even in 2021!!! That’s inexcusable now! Madden has always been about features and bullshit over gameplay and presentation. Gameplay was pretty good in those days and it’s pretty good now. It’s football but my god. The presentation really needs an overhaul. 2K5 had it all! Madden 08 had the perfect blend of gameplay and features and presentation. Still no halftime, but at least it played well. The best Madden of the 2000s.
Somehow they should always have Madden voice commentating in these games, i miss it..

First game I bought for PS2 and the graphics blew me away, compare this to NFL 2k1 on Dreamcast and Madden is light years away in look and gameplay. RIP John Madden.

I remember the first time I saw Madden 2001, was in a very forward looking IT network admin class run by the local school system for gifted students, teacher declared and followed through on letting everyone bring in video and computer games on valentines day (we had full admin on our workstations because the class required it). Probably the highest-end realtime-rendered anything I'd seen up to that point (and I was fully absorbed by the likes of Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament in those days). I didn't then nor do I now care a single bit about following football, but I spent the better part of a 90-minute early class block eyes glued to the other guys and gals playing this on the classroom's projector. Awesome times!

I'm not a football fan. But I remember being blown away by how this game looked at the kiosks at electronic stores at the time. Still to this day, the reflections on the helmets look really good.

This game was amazing. I had it back when it came out and I went from Dreamcast NFL2k’s to this, and never looked back. It just felt right, and no bs commercials and filler, this was just get in, pick a play, and PLAY. I can’t stand new maddens with all the pop ups and bullshit, it’s like playing a commercial!
