- My first Madden was Madden 2001. This game got me into Franchise Mode and was the true start of my football journey. Today, I'm returning for the first time in over 20 years to revisit this game.

The first madden I played was 03, but 04 was when I really got into it. Playing with Michael Vick was so much fun
Madden 03 was the first Madden I played hit 04 was when it really started coming together! Learned about the sport through 04 and really started the obsession and lead to my career as a college football coach!

I think it was Madden 2003 that players progressed based on how much they played and how well they performed. I took the woeful Bears and in the preseason I remember Bobby Engram progressing 12OVR because he completely crushed the preseason. Back then all sorts of stats would actually increase, speed, agility, etc., instead of what happened later on in the 2000's when just 2-3 stats plus AWR would go up and that's it. Physical traits wouldn't develop.
These old maddens really make you miss how much ea used to care about the game instead of a trash ultimate team money grab.
I remember being able to import draft classes straight from the NCAA games. You could recruit a guy out of high school, take him through his college career, draft him to your Madden team, keep him until he retired, and then hire him as a coach. Those were the days. (Sighs.)
I think we need to see a franchise series with this game.
Madden 09 All Play on the Wii was my 1st Madden, it was more of an arcade style game where you can create a play on a spot but it had a very fun franchise mode, it also had a career mode where you can play as any position you can think of, like Right Guard and punter

PS2 Madden 03-08 were so good! ‘03 had the best Soundtrack of all Maddens!
No lie: Party Hard, The Anthem & Mr. Jinx are three of my all-time favorite songs because of Madden NFL 2003. The whole rest of the soundtrack is incredibly solid as well.
This is the first Madden game I remember. MY uncle had it on PS2 and I thought graphics could never get better. We even had a kick about how all the apparel is Puma branded.
The Dwayne Rudd celebration thing was earliest football memory as a chiefs fan. I just remember my dad laughing his ass off. Good day to be a chiefs fan.
Madden 99. My Dad got it on pc when I was a kid. I remember it being super hard.
The one flaw of the early Maddens was the drafts being far too easy too manipulate. I could get all the top 5 picks every year easily.
Madden 94 on Sega Genesis is the first one I played. My dad and I played it together.
Interesting! Madden 2001 was also my first football game and it really got me into sports in general. I had it on PS2 though, it was crazy how close to real it seemed at that time. Love the video, Cane!
For me the first Madden I played was John Madden Football for SNES at a friend's house. Madden 94 for Genesis was the first one I owned. Madden 96 was the first one I got into and played a ton.
Mine was Madden 04, my older brothers got it for Christmas and that was the first one they taught me how to play. We used to argue about who got to use the Falcons because of Vick
First madden I played was madden 07 in the ps2 and never looked back. Forever madden 07 will be my favorite and I play it still today.
Been playing Madden since the 90's. My favorites are Madden 93 CE, Madden 64, Madden 03, Madden 06-08, Madden 10, and Madden 12.
My first madden game I ever played was madden 12 for the ps2. I was like 2 or 3 when the game released but i still remember playing it and have fond memories with it
My first Madden that got me hooked to this day well into my 50s along with my core of friends was "Madden 92" on SEGA😂😂😂

Madden 95 on SNES was my first as a 7 year old. Played every single one from 95-2019 and stopped after that as they just got so bad towards the end. My favorites were 03-07 and I've recently gone back and played them on a refurbished xbox.
My dad used to play Madden 98 on the PS1 and I'd watch him play. I didn't get into Madden myself until 05 but I was always into football.
I could listen to that intro all day and my first ever madden was madden 64 but truthfully I played blitz 03 much more.
Madden 03. I can still hear the opening to Party Hard by Andrew W.K. at the start menu. Good times.

Madden 1995 on SNES is the first one I remember playing, but I preferred Madden 1996 when they introduced create a player features.

First Madden played was the John Madden Football on the Genesis which my cousin had with the EA Hockey (I think that's what it was called) two in one cart. First full Madden I owned and played was Madden 02 on the PS2

My first Madden was Madden 16 on Xbox 360. Because I'm from Brazil and It was in a moment the NFL starting to become more popular.

first "new" madden I got was 07 for the Gamecube I think, then 08 on the PS2, but I loved buying the older ones at Gamestop when I was a kid. Ended up with 04 on Gamecube and 05 + 06 on PS2 as well
The first Madden I played was 96. The first I owned was Madden64 on the N64.
I was born in 1984 and my first football games were TecmoBowl, Super TecmoBowl, and Troy Aikman football.
NFL2k... just 2k, on the DreamCast was so much better than anything EA had. It took Madden 03 to "surpass" 2k, and then 2k came back hard with 2k5, and then, well... you know.
First NFL game I played was Quarterback Club 98 or it was 99 on N64...but for Madden it was Madden NFL 2003 on PS2 which I still own that copy to this day and occasionally will throw in once in awhile for a little old school Madden, Madden PS2 will still forever be my favorite time-line for this game Franchise 03-08 just endless hours of fun
Madden 99 on N64 was my first. First console franchise mode ever on that one. Maybe PC had it on 98 because I know college football has a 4 season dynasty mode on PC
As far as MLB spring training it works a bit differently. There are two leagues, Cactus and Grapefruit. Even within those leagues you have teams that sort of agree to play against each other because of stadium situations and ease of travel. I remember this being a big deal for the Orioles in like the 80's and early 90's before they moved to a new complex in Florida and then it got a lot easier on them to host and go to other teams. A lot of teams share spring training facilities as well, so that's why you will see them playing the same 5-6 teams or so.
My first Madden ever was Madden 92. My first football game though was Joe Montana's Football on Genesis.
My first Madden I think I've ever played would have been Madden 95 I believe. I had the old n64 and would play the heck out of it.

2002 was the one where the Houston Texans came in as a new franchise and where you could take over an expansion team as a created one. I wish that feature was still around. Import a couple of teams as expansions so you can even up divisions and such. I LOVED taking created cupcake teams into a franchise mode and trying to build them up.
I think in Madden 2006 I created 32 new teams and created a brand new league with no NFL teams, no NFL players, and every team was a cupcake. It was HILARIOUS. In the first season only 1 RB ran for 1000 yards. 3 QB's threw for 3,000 yards and I think only 2 of them threw more TDs than INTs. Leading tacklers on teams would have over 200 tackles because they were always playing defense since all the offenses were terrible.
Simmed stats in the '00 Maddens were wonky AF and straight out of the '70s dead ball era.
Also, my friend and I did a Texans franchise for that game. I remember Jabar Gaffney dropping a lot of passes (we called him Stone hands Gaffney) and losing a playoff game to the Pats (it WOULD be the Pats) after falling behind 24-0. We scored twice and got the 2-point conversion both times but after our third TD we went for 2 again and didn't make it.
Madden 2001 was actually my first madden also but I had the PS2 version. Borrowed it from a friend and ended up never giving it back. It was the first sports game I ever played and I was hooked lol.
Mine was Madden 99. Super Tecmo Bowl, Super High Impact and GameDay took priority over Madden in my earlier years

My first madden was madden 16 but my real first madden was madden 17 my new step brother and I played it and we bonded over it I got a lot of good memories with that game and him

Yeah you need to do a video where you play either every Madden or play like your top 5 favorite Maddens through the years. I’m curious to see what those might be. We all know the 3 you did not like. Which those 3 were Madden 11, 13 and 19.
My first was 11 or 12 on the Nintendo DS, spent a lot of time playing 11 on the PS3 a few years later.
Madden 05 was first I played and enjoyed lots of, but the oldest I’ve played was Madden 95, and that was a blast

My technical first was 07 on 360 but the one I really got into was Madden 11 and 12.
It’s crazy that Moss had 2,762 Yds on 149 Rec. Michael Thomas had 149 Rec in one season but for 1,725 Yds.🤯

For me it was Madden 1999 on PC. Still have the disc too but I don't have a computer to play it anymore sadly. Players could have 100 as an overall rating back then lol.
My first madden is madden11 I saw the superbowl few weeks after the packers won the superbowl against my team the steelers I went to gamestop and asked my mom if I can get it I was 10 when I got and I got hooked franchise mode is my favorite

My first football game was tecmo bowl on the nes. I didn't know what it was at the time though. Madden 64 was the first one I played knowing what football actually was.
I remember that. That was the one with Bo Jackson right? If i remember correctly he was damn near invincible on that. Lol
@@shawnbaker3245 That was Super Tecmo Bowl, the sequel that actually had 11 on 11 play and even subsitutions and player condition! Bo Jackson was amazing as was Christian Okoye.
@@eduardopena5893 Was Tecmo Super Bowl the first game that enabled you to play an actual season? I remember that being mind-blowing, paradigm-shifting stuff back then.
@@DolFan316 Yes it did, and it tracked stats. I STILL have a working NES system and all of my games still work, including Baseball Stars and Super Tecmo Bowl that use battery saves. They were supposed to work for only 3-5 years, but mine still work and save data! Every year I pull out my NES, plug it in, and play several games to make sure they still work.
My cousin and I over the summer would spend lots of time together, neither of us had brothers and we were only 2 years apart in age. So I played full seasons with all the AFC teams, he did with the NFC teams. We then took the players that we through performed the best and put them on the pro bowl teams (which you could completely change the rosters for!) and play head to head with our best guys!
Some great memories of that game. The Packers had a back up TE named Ed West and no matter what happened, he would ALWAYS get tackled at the goal line when he went in for a TD. That forever marked with with the meme: Ed West's Disease. Any time any player on any other team got stopped that way, we said they had that.
Emile Harry was a back up WR on I think the Chiefs? He wasn't really all that great but I jokingly called him "Dangerous." Later that game my cousin got him to run a punt back for a TD! He was forever known as Emile "Dangerous" Harry. He never did anything again :)
Dallas had a back up tight end named Rob Awalt. My cousin loved Jay Novacek, but he would always get injured so he had to play Awalt, who didn't have great stats. The dude was just always open for big plays and we both would shout, "AAAAAAAWALT!"
There was the 2 minute fumble that had us both laughing so hard we cried and my abs never hurt so bad! I remember it was the Bills and I forget who my cousin was using, but his guy fumbled the ball and it went out of bounds, but the game didn't realize this. There was a huge pile of players all running to go get it and they would grapple and you'd just see guys flying out of the pile left and right from time to time. Meanwhile you hear ball bouncing sounds, collision sounds, and the only thing that got it to stop was the time running out in the quarter.
@@eduardopena5893 That game was all the rage in my college dorm room freshman year. And then there was the time my friend and I played it for 13 hours straight. I was the 49ers and he was the Giants and we did a full season for both teams at once.
I have Peter Warrick's rookie card. He was supposed to be a really good receiver but ended up being a bust. I actually started laughing at the Randy Moss for Hugh Douglas trade offer. I remember him from when he was on the Eagles.
