I own this and love it. Also wanted to mention my iPad mini fits great, along with a note book.
I received mine about a month ago. I had previously bought the zippered 5 pen/notepad case and love the looks and quality of it, I had to have the A5 folio as well. For a quality hand made leather product, I also feel the price was very reasonable. It will be much enjoyed next month when we escape the snowy climes of Calgary and head to Cancun for a couple of weeks for some much-needed rest, relaxation, and writing. Lots of writing. By the way, that larger loop in the middle fits my Pineider travel inkwell perfectly. A wonderfully versatile product from Galen Leather.
I have this folio in both the Crazy Horse Brown and Forest Green and love them both! Sometimes I wish I had four hands so I could use them at the same time. Very enthusiastic review, Dr. Brown.
Glad you liked this one Mr Brown - I actually ordered the same beast a couple of weeks back along with the zippered 4 pen sleeve which has a duplicate of the 4 pen slide out holder in the folio - quick 4 pen change 😎👍
I also own and love this folio. It will hold the 400 page notebook as well if you are not putting something like the iPad on the left side. Superb product.
I'm a huge fan of Galan Leather! I have a Cover in Crazy Horse that has withstood over 3 years of abuse... I'd love to have a zippered portfolio but I'll have to wait a bit... that smoke color on their site is haunting me though... 😂

I have that same one. I love it. $119 is not a bad price; considering it will probably last someone their lifetime. I use an Endless recorder journal in mine. Very great product and wonderful people. Have an awesome week my friend.
Thanks for the review. FWIW, I find that the gear on the inside left cover gets in the way when writing in soft notebooks (I'm a savage and I write on both sides of the page), but is just fine for hardcover notebooks (like an Endless Recorder). I do like that the folio safely collects in one bundle. In contrast, I also have a Lochby it's better for one or more soft notebooks but misses on the gather ALL the stuff aspect.
I have mine in crazy horse green, and I fit 6 pens in it. I bought it from a local supplier, as by the time I looked they were almost the only people in the world that had one. I use mostly A5 books sourced from many sources, not just the ones mentioned. I can write with the book inside the notebook or pull the book out. The A5 books are normal thickness, usually with board covers. It fits into my handbag and carries everything. I tried my iPad mini in it and it fits without its own cover. iPhone is in the pocket these days to demonstrate that we are vaxxed. I love it, and as we are now able to go out to meetings, it will be used more.
I wanted the crazy brown folio but I settled for the forest green and the natural ones. Vanness engraved both of mine for free!
Stephen, great review as always. Galen does make some wonderful products and they hold up very well over time.
I love this company's story, but for me ANY premium product that utilizes elastic is a no go. Elastic degrades very rapidly Any product made from leather of Crazy Horse, ChromeExcel, or Horween will last for decades; the elastic will not even last for a few years. And I could be wrong, but it looks machine not saddle stitched, which means if one stich breaks or frays the seam will fail. I could be wrong, but that is how it appears on video.

They really make strong, serviceable, and beautiful leather products. I don’t have this notebook cover, and am tempted after watching your wonderful review. Sadly, I just wouldn’t use it. Knowing that, what a wonderful review!
I’ve perused a few vids about Galen products-lovely & rugged! Can’t afford ‘em but the undyed natural zipper A5 of the same as this is THE one for me & my jaunts about far west Texas.
Stephen....another excellent review. And I’d agree that $120 seems fair. I just SO love my Lochby Field Journal that for me, it’s all I’LL ever need. If I was crazy for leather, the Galen A5 would be a terrific choice. 👍

I think the deep pocket would be good for holding a small ruler or letter opener, although tea is nice.

I think it is unique in that it holds paper and pens. But I would refrain from keeping credit cards or pricier pens in it. If it were to be stolrn or lost, too many eggs in one basket…imho.
I think it IS great to carry along on maybe a hike, camping, or an outing in the city, should you be inclined to write on such occasion.

Would like to see writing in the notebook. Does the zipper interfere as one gets to the right side. Also can one effectively write on the back side of the paper that is folded back on the left side.

Thanks a lot for your review! I've already watched a ton of reviews of this folio, but none of them answered my question which the only one that stops me from buying one of these instantly. There were several reports on reddit that the pen loops on these leave dye or scratch marks on their pens. I plan to use it for not so cheap pens, so right now it's a stopper for me. Could you please tell me if you have noticed the same behaviour of the leather with your pens? Thank you in advance!
I haven't and I have been using mine for 3 months in my office. I just love the look and feel of it.

Keys may scratch the pen(s).
hate how all of zipper notebook cases add all this unwanted extras. I just want to protect my notebook. WHO wants to put their entire life in one place, from passport and CCs to keys? For real? So if you lose it or it gets stolen you're screwed for good. hey. it's 2024. thanks for the review.
Never buy Galen product again! Were Never able to ship to me but I still had to pay for the product. The product was never attempted to deliver but always stopped because they did not complete the customs forms correctly. I was the one that got blamed but no attempt was ever made to deliver. Yes, I am sour on Galen!

@@sbrebrown Agree but it feels more like a description of the product instead. I've watched a lot of reviews about this product and almost no one discusses how this folio feels with a proper notepad inside, filled with pens, how it zips, does it get distorted with all that stuff inside, does it put pressure on the pens, how it stands wear, etc. Feels like everybody unboxes the product and shoots a "review".
Almost 10 years of experience teach me that this is the information most of my viewers want to know, so I'm providing that. You're very welcome to not watch my videos if this offends you so much that you feel the need to comment on it.
@@peoplewithpixels That’s literally part of any thorough review, by definition LOL. As a potential customer, you can’t know all of those things beforehand unless some user actually tests the product and shares his/her experience with others...
