Halloween House Projection 2018

- Big turnout for this year's Halloween projection. I was a little pressed for time during the production, so I didn't include that many elements this time, and a re-run of 2016's show was attached to make it a bit longer. Unfortunately, the video isn't the greatest and a bit grainy. The opening skeleton scene worked better when watched in person. It gets a little small when watching the video. Please don't hold back if you have any questions. :)

That kid is definitely one of THOSE kids that does fortnite dances in public
Oh yeah guaranteed
yeah. That one kid who thinks is smarter than the rest and soon will be hated so much

Hi JustTronUK, we're already in contract negotiations, but unfortunately, the star has already let the attention go to his stem, and his demands are ridiculous, so I don't think it will happen. ;)
Let's say we don't lol. The jokes were terrible. It's just as bad as.. Why can't witches have babies? Because their husbands have Halloweenies, or why can't witches have babies? Because their husbands have Crystal Balls. I mean come on lol. The effects though were amazing!! Loved that part.
@Gus W Uuuh. Ok? I was just being a wise ass. That is why I did a lol and made lame jokes too. It's all good. Sorry you didn't get the smartass bit. Happy Halloween.

You blew it away again. Love the effort you put in. I had some great intentions for this years projection mapping but life got crazy and I was not able to get it done. I will try for Christmas.
Thank you for your kind words. It is a bit of a commitment, but well worth the time spent when you see the little ones taking it all in and reacting to it. Especially in an age, where most of their entertainment comes through a little screen. :)
This was awesome as usual! You've been a big inspiration to my decoration aspirations and I finally got mine up and running this year. Thanks for showing what's possible!
Hi AeroVideo. Sorry for the late response. I checked out your video. It is GREAT! So crisp and clear. Well done. I can't wait to see where you take it next time. :)
I gotta ask and hope I get a reply... how much does something like that cost?
Hi Srg. Dic's. No secrets here: The projector was about $380 on eBay. I already had the software needed (Adobe Creative Cloud), but if not, cheapest deal is $49 for a month's license. I have some purchased video elements from AtmosFX that vary in price. Check out their website. Then of course you need a computer to make it - preferably a laptop so you can run the video from it to the projector too. And an audio interface that can connect to a couple of speakers for the audio. You can check prices on that online. Other than that, it's just the time invested. :)
ProjectThisHouse yeah, almost none of that made any sense to me. Lol. I can build a house, no problem, but throw tech in the mix, and im out!
@@kenmcevoy1119 Damn, really? We should teach each other lmao. I WISH I could build a house without searching every mini step on CZcams. The tech stuff though, that's the easy part for me lol.

Hi. I've been trying to learn 3d mapping projections but all the tutorials are too confusing. I don't need something as detailed as yours with perfect lips moves, only something like the skeletons with the shadows and some cool effects. Do you have a channel to follow you on these steps? Thanks.

Love the use of AtmosFX in your show, great job!
Hi Jeff McMahan. Thanks for visiting my channel. Yes, if it hadn't been for AtmosFX, my projections would have been very short. LOL. :)
I love this and my question is, how in the world do you do this? I have absolutely no clue. Thank you for the entertainment
Hi there. Thanks for stopping by and watching. You can google Projection Mapping or House Projection, but it is basically just using a projector to show a tailor-made video on your house. :)
@@ProjectThisHouse wonderful thank you so much
Whats another brand of projectors do you recommend besides the benq that dont cost so much
Hi Jay. Thanks for stopping by. I don't really know all brands, but if the projector is a short throw projector and has about 2800+ lumens, then you should be good. HOWEVER don't go for the crazy deals on eBay where they say you get a 10000 lumens projector from China for $50. :) I have seen my model on eBay for under $400 which is a steal as you can use it year after year and not only for Halloween.
@@ProjectThisHouse You used a 1080p projector with 2800 lumen? Or is it 4k? Although it looks like you don't have any back lights so no blowing out the projection. Impressive work!
@@joshb5898 My projector is a BenQ MX819ST with 3000 lumens and a native resolution of 1024 x 768, so anything in that range should be able to achieve results like mine. As long as you project onto light colored house walls and block out the closest street lighting (if any) and make sure not to have any lights on inside the house. :)
@@ProjectThisHouse Wow, that's a lower res for a hq throw! Very impressive! I have a lower res projector but only have done window projections... I have a new project!!! Ty for the info! 😃

Watching this because I’m sad Halloween is over! This was so entertaining and cool by the way!
Thank you for stopping by and watching, Jenna. :)
How is this even possible its amazing
Hi Farmer Row21. Thank you for watching. It's fairly simple. First you map your house as the projector sees it. This is done with a paint program. You then take this map, and start filling it with textures and other elements in an editing program and make a video, that you then project back onto the house. Easy peasy, right? (hint: google "projection mapping") :)
How did u do the skeleton ? Was it with what projector ?? And where did y get the animation frkm .?
Was it atmos fx ? What version ?
Hi Shay. Yes, the opening skeleton animation was also part of the projected video. I made that animation myself in Cinema4D, which is why the walk cycle is a bit shotty. LOL.
@@ProjectThisHouse oh cool! What projector did u use ?
Maybe shoot a tutorial on the cinema 4d work u did ?
@@ShayVidas The projector is a BenQ MX819ST...and we'll see when I get to making some tutorials. :)
@@ProjectThisHouse that's only a 3000 lumens projector? Seems much brighter. Amazing job with the animations.

Today @ CZcams: the drunk house that is telling jokes
Can’t wait for the Halloween soon!
Incredible Job.
Let's see..My last year in review was....Step 1: Watch ProjectThisHouse Halloween mapping .... Step 2: be blown away.... Step 3 : Swear that this will be the year that I learn After Effects and Cinema 4d and not follow step by step youtube vids... Step 4: become incredibly busy and not do step 3...Step 5 : put something together and say "next year"... So now I am having a Deja Vue moment haha... AMAZING Job! Love watching your stuff.
Ha ha, very funny. Maybe you can write some material for my pumpkin next year? As always: Thank you for your kind words. They make it all worth it. :)
ProjectThisHouse can you help me please ... I’m learning blender and after effects off CZcams xlights has done a great tutorial on mapping but I’m getting stuck one min he is mapping all the separate parts the next min he is copying and pasting the master mask how do I get the master mask to contain all my masks on one layer and also my masks are solid his are outlines how do I do that any help would be appreciated
Hi there, flyinsparkey. Sorry for the slow response. I had to watch the whole video at xlights and it was looooong...but very informative. I think your problem is, that you didn't make masks - you made shapes. It's easy to make that mistake, as you're using the same tool. To make masks, you need to do it with a layer activated, otherwise the tool will create a shape instead on its own layer, hence why you're ending up with a lot of separate layers instead of masks contained in the same layer. I hope that helped you a bit. :)
As the projection seemed to fit your house perfectly (each corner had cladding effect at times etc) I am curious to know if the building projection was bespoke to you?
I keep watching and whilst I try to figure it all out I just find myself drifting away and indulging in the whole extravaganza.
This is a truly magnificent display.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Hi nom nom. Thank you for watching and for your kind words. Making the projection match the building it is being projected onto so perfectly, is what "projection mapping" is all about. The first step of the production is to make a precise outline of your house, as it is seen through the projector. This outline is then filled in with textures and videos using various graphics programs depending on ambition and skill. Some of the video elements are purchased, but I make most of it myself.
@@ProjectThisHouse
You are an extremely talented person.
I can't even programme a picaboo so I really appreciate your display.

Thank you, Brian. I'm looking forward to see what you came up with this year. :)
ProjectThisHouse unfortunately I wasn’t able to put anything new together this year. My brother has been extremely sick so between taking care of him and working, I haven’t had any free time. Things are getting a little better so hopefully next year!! I love the way you do the 3d effects, that’s something I’m very interested in learning more about. Do you use cinema 4d ?
Hi Brian, sorry for the late response, and sorry about your brother. I hope he has gotten better. The 3D has definitely added some quality to the animations, but also a ton of time in the production. :) And, yes: I'm using Cinema4D. Let me know if you need some tips if you wanna try to incorporate it.
That had to be one of the best I've ever seen.
Hi Alliecatt Minto. Thanks for stopping by and watching. I'm happy you liked it. :)
This is probably a dumb question when I can look it up, but how did you do this? Thanks
Hi Paco Ba. There are no dumb questions here. This is done by using a video projector to show a movie custom made to fit to the specs of the house. That was the short version. How you make the actual video is the long story. :)
ProjectThisHouse I guess that was my more direct question, the video itself. I found a company that starts them for 99 dollars but I’m sure making your own is a lot of work. Finding all the animations I haven’t found any other than actually paying for a custom one.
@@pacoba6432 Ha ha, sorry for the misunderstanding. Well, AtmosFX.com is a good place to start, but their videos are just to be used as elements in your own video, as they were ment for a TV, monitor or wall projection. I hope to do some "How To" videos after Halloween, that can give you an idea og how this is done. :)
Imagine living across these people not knowing they got a projector lol
Hi Duckyy. Unfortunately we can't surprise our neighbors anymore. LOL
That looks awesome! I think the skeleton lighting up the house was my favourite part. Everyone would have loved it!
Hi Andrea Kidd. I'm happy you liked that part, as I was one of my own animations. Too bad I only got a fuzzy recording of it. It looked much better in person. :)
@@ProjectThisHouse I was wondering if you did it yourself. Now I’m even more impressed. I thought that maybe you’d lent your house as a canvas for an animations business like Atmosfx, or are a professional yourself. Your projector must be powerful. Did you do an animations making course? I decided to have a go myself, initially to make a cancellation message because of COVID 19, then I thought I’d share it and now I think I want to keep experimenting. It’s not on a grand scale like yours. I’m only learning how to make videos, so I’m very curious about how you did it. Again, the idea of the skeleton was great. It added suspense. You are so talented. I also think that playing around with this stuff keeps the child in the adult alive. Are you going ahead with your display this year? Sadly, I’ve decided not to, but I’m planning for 2021.
I haven't decided if I want to put forth the effort this year. We usually have a big crowd, so I don't know if it's smart to do it in these COVID-times. :(
@@ProjectThisHouse Yes I understand and I share your concerns. It's very disappointing, especially since it's on a Saturday this year. Anyway, maybe it'll give you some extra time to make 2021 even more spectacular (if possible). Stay healthy.
