  • In this video we cover Sassafras trees, how to identify them, and whether the firewood from these trees is any good. As usual, I've also tried to throw in some additional fun facts and interesting tidbits.
I mentioned the link where I found the BTU rating for Sassafras. Looks like it actually wasn't UKY's extension office, and appears to have been posted by someone in their Ag department: www.uky.edu/Ag/Forestry/McLar...
If you enjoy this video. Hit the like button for me, and if you're into firewood, join the conversation in the comments. Cheers.

I love the smell it puts off. Great for camping or to throw on the fireplace just to make the house smell nice. For some reason I've always described the smell as spicy, almost like a cinnamon.

Sassyfras is very lightweight when 10% or below moisture content. It's not ideal for firewood, but I burn almost any type of wood when dried..
    Good job on video!

Just cut a bunch up for firewood this weekend.
Seasons quickly, burns with a nice flame, medium BTU hardwood.
Smells good when burning, and a good smoking wood.
As said, great fence post wood, very rot resistant.
Can pop a bit like pine when burning.

Sassafrass seasons in 30 days ....beware if your damper doesnt close all the way....i loaded my stove with it and the temp went up to 800.F
Because the fire was fast and furious even with the damper closed....
