Ashleigh: “I’m not going to say I’m the #1 Little Mermaid Fan”
.5 seconds later… “As the #1 Little Mermaid Fan!”
In Andersen's fairy tale, the Little Mermaid takes the knife and agrees to kill the prince. But when she tries to do it, she finds that she can't kill him, and instead, she sacrifices herself to save his life and turns into sea foam.
Yeah, pretty dark stuff!
Yes the actual tales were quite darker than the sanitized versions
@@WVRSpenceWestVirginiaRebelThat's putting it mildly!
Actually, she doesn't turn into sea foam. She becomes a daughter of air and has the chance to earn a soul.
Doesn't turn into sea foam (as other mermaids). Becomes a daughter of air and can earn back her soul over a thousand years by visiting children and making them happy.
Ashleigh I am LIVING for your birthday month shows and movies! It’s been great. It’s your channel, it’s your birthday month, you enjoy yourself how you want. I’m here for it.
Unfortunately no, the man on the boat that says he'll take Ariel to the castle is not the original voice of Sebastian, Samuel E. Wright. He died of prostate cancer in 2021.
Wait. The little man in the boat died of prostate cancer? What?
@@gunkulator1 no. The original voice of Sebastian.
But Diggs did an AMAZING job. Love him so much.
She has an amazing voice, but this story is for your generation not mine. I got over that she wasn't white or had red hair, after she belted out that first book number. Talent is talent, and she was the perfect choice.
@@harrykuehn3894 it's the same story 😶
Watching you regress full on to a little girl singing was probably the most heart warming thing I’ve seen in a while. This is why you’re the queen of the reactors. Thank you for inviting us in to a part of your childhood.
"Disappointed fOR The fIRSt tIME" i just choked on my own saliva laughing at that
Y'ALL I NEED HELP! Disney specifically made a movie FOR ASHLEIGH and it's not being recommended to her! Who here remembers THE THREE LIVES OF THOMASINA?
The only place I've been able to find this streaming is CZcams. And I absolutely ❤❤❤ the Three Lives of Thomasina.
@@floraalomari3522 Yep, free on CZcams! Great quality. I watch it as my sick day movie. 🩷 Ashleigh would LOVE it, don't you think?
I'd never heard of it before, but on looking it up, it sounds charming! Now I gotta find it...
Alan Menken (Little Mermaid 1989) returned to write three new songs with Lin-Manuel Miranda who also wrote for Encanto 🧜🏼♀️🕯️
This is may be super weird to say but Prince Eric was my cartoon crush when I was younger lol
Mine was Trent Lane from 'Daria'
Nah that's relatable. At least until Shang from Mulan came along 😂
@@enicole1203ooo you have a point but Eric will always win for me cuz he saved Max lol and old English sheep dogs were my favourite dogs as a kid lol
That's not weird to day at all. We've all had cartoon crushes.
Mine was Robin Hood, the animated one from the 70s lol.
"Betcha on land they understand"
"They don't" 🤣
And they definitely DO reprimand their daughters!
🙊😂
I am a grown-ass woman who loves, loves, loves this movie and saw it twice in the theatre and twice on Disney+

Before I watch the video i have to say, as a cast member in wdw I am so sad I didn't run into you on your trip down here hahah!
HOWEVER I hope you had the most magical birthday trip!
I'm here for Ashleigh singing every song! Happy Birthday my friend!
Ashleigh, your utter joy throughout the movie absolutely made my day. I'm not a movie person at all, but I love seeing movies through your eyes.
I'd love to see Ashleigh watch Ferngully. Robin Williams and Tim Curry. Yes Puh-lease!
14:36 Woah, Ashleigh's singing voice is really nice.
A way underrated film I haven’t seen anyone react to is Noises Off (1992) . Comedy legend Carol Burnett, John Ritter, and Christopher Reeve. I will say the first 15 minutes aren’t super exciting, and some viewers might be wondering wtf, but that’s all the set-up for the rest. I suggest doing this after Deliverance, you’ll need something happy or funny.
Deliverance?! Holy shi... Okay. Okay, you can handle it. Cannot wait to see that one.
Right?!?
I was kinda let down with it. People kept building it up, but, there's nothing to it. The grape scene was actually kinda funny.
That’s not the original voice of Sebastian. This Sebastian actor is Daveed Diggs. Daveed Diggs is probably most known for being in the original cast of Hamilton.
she meant the guy on the ship who told her they'd take her to the castle.
I nearly cried at the line you shouldn’t have to lose your voice in order to be heard when I watched this in theater
I feel so bad for Ashleigh. She walked into an internet battlefield and all she wanted was to have fun watching a movie. Maybe ignore the comments on this one? 😅
And if you watch some of the negative critics, many has never post comments on her channel before today. 🤭
@jimmysmom581 this is very accurate.
Surf CZcams for videos involving certain things to voice their opinion on... like this movie, for instance, lol
@DraymondGreen-un2qj Except Cleopatra was a real person and Ariel is a fictional character.
@@DraymondGreen-un2qj I guess the insult was subjective, because I didn't care at all about it. 🤷♀️
@@DraymondGreen-un2qj that's a really bad example
So glad you enjoyed this. I love watching you watch Disney. We need more singing Ashleigh!!
I can typically get her to sing on stream…It’s our thing 😂
I didn't grow up a huge fan of the animated version of The Little Mermaid, it wasn't my thing. I did however get full body chills and a bit misty eyed when Ariel started singing Part of Your World.
Yes, is kate from bridgerton, girl !
I really loved it too!! I loved how they gave Erics side too, it showed how good of a match they are. Eric still has his dimples too!! I was blushing lol.
I loved that they showed how much he's a collector of nerdy stuff too and just as she doesn't really know what all that 'human crap' does, he did need some instructions on what some of his treasures can do apart from just looking neat. That was my favourite addition to the story.
You singing every song is also me. LOL.. I watched the original so many times I had the dialogue memorized. I watched it the other day.. I still remember. I actually haven't watched this one, but I think after this I'm good. I don't like that they cut out the chef's song. It's one of my favorites. I don't think this one was needed, imho. I do love that they had Jodi Benson in it though. Hailey and Melissa both have awesome voices.
Ursula's Octopussy. 😆
😂😂 Omg you went there!
The Happytime Murders starring Melissa McCarthy needs a reaction. It's like Who Framed Roger Rabbit but with Muppets instead of Toons and definitely for adults.
I was just about to say "and way dirtier" before I came to the 'for adults' part
Ashleigh, why didn't i know you could sing... you got some pipes girl!!!
Ashleigh you got to watch Throw Momma From The Train (1987) Starring Danny Devito, Billy Crystal And Anne Ramsey from the goonies and I also wanna Throw in Waiting to exhale (1995) starring Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine and lola Rochan because last month was women month
I remember watching a Little Mermaid cartoon movie when i was younger but it was the Hans Christian Andersen original story version. Let me tell you, that was traumatizing for a 9 year old to watch. Especially since i was expecting the Disney version. But I actually ended up loving that version. I'm a huge fan of the Disney adaptation but the original has a special place in my heart.
lol “I took pictures at the there” lol
There's a 2022 Festivus musical that nobody saw called Spirited, a fantasy starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds. It only ran for 1 week in a dozen theatres then went straight to streaming on Apple+ where it was totally ignored. it's a Scrooged remake with Ryan in Bill Murray's role and you get to see the HQ where the Ghosts of Christmas work, Ash would absolutely love it.
RIP Louis Gossett Jr. ; legendary actor.
Please watch Iron Eagle or Enemy Mine in remembrance.
Iron Eagle on the Channel
thank you I'll watch that.
Enemy Mine! Definitely! I even recommend Officer and a Gentleman.
@@awkwardashleigh are you jewish ?
@@sumthingwikked4257I mean his performance in Officer and a Gentleman literally made history.
For your birthday, my present to you suggesting again you should watch "Some kind of wonderful" it stars one of Ashleigh's girl crushes Mary Stuart Masterson, and it's the ending pretty in pink should have had
Ooo! I'd like to second this! Very good (and underrated) 80's movie!
They cut my favorite song. Le Poisson.
I feel you, missing the deep voice on "guess who got me on da plate." Every line from the original was disappointing here. Disney needs to stop messing with perfection.
"Did they kill him?!" Yes but he got better...
Ashleigh… I need you to watch the live action Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. Cinderella is the best remake overall, despite not being a musical. Beauty and the Beast did the best job of incorporating new music that feels organic against the original soundtrack. Please, please, please watch these two.
I agree with beauty and the beast the music direction was almost perfect.
I too loved the blend of new and old and the fact they used some of the unused lyrics from the original film and weaved some of the old score into the new. It's a shame they auto tuned the crap out of the actors singing?
"GET MARRIED AND LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER MOM! SHIT!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As a 90s kid i loved watching some of the classics on vhs this one i owned too
I recommend the movie City Slickers with Billy Crystal. I think you’d really like it.
Oh my god yes I’ve been wanting her to watch it for so long!!
You make can make a great Ariel, Ashleigh. You got red hair and a good singer voice.
And she's white.
@@FariyTalePurityAnalyser lmao. Yall so pissed about a cartoon lolll
I loved Daveed as Sebastian and he can do zero wrong for me. I love Scuttlebutt. But my favorite detail is they made more of a point of showing her as a siren and that her little melody (no pun intended for those who know the sequel) is a sirens song. Love it.
Please add these movies to your list:
Thrillers: Stir of Echoes, The Good son, Cube
Cowboy movies: The Quick and the dead, Maverick
Musical: Hairspray
Action Thriller: Deathproof, Natural Born Killers,
LGBTQ themed : Professor Marston and the wonder women and Victor/Victoria
I think it's the best Disney Live Action that I have seen, although I was disappointed that Harry styles wasn't Prince Eric, I wasn't bothered about all the drama about Ariel Not being white, she's a beautiful girl and was great. Hopefully Ashley watches "Splash " Next ! 😊🎬
She did watch Splash already (and got VERY excited when she figured out it's about a mermaid!)
Hans Christian Andersen origjnally made the allegory for his unrequited love for his straight friend who he could never be with.
There was some hubub bc one of the hot merman at the end was an Italian model who did gay 🌽, but it was too far in production to remove his scene.
Hans Christian Andersen never seen a nigrood-African in his life.
Ashleigh's the only other person I've seen watch this movie and like the Scuttlebutt song and she's honestly so real for that, it's such a fun addition.
Right!! I think it was for the kids too
I LOVE Scuttlebutt, I was hysterical the first time I heard it
A lot of the disney remakes that have come out in the last 10 years or so I think people are being way too overly critical and are hating just to hate. Like my favorite disney movies are Aladdin and Jungle Book and I loved the live actions of those movies. The only I feel did drop the ball was Lion King
Well . . . if you want a deep voice to do some of the parts, try listening to Voiceplay's cover of "The Little Mermaid". I think they have just what you are looking for.
The actress with the ringlet hair , she played a paramedic in casualty which is a uk medical soap drama
I can't find the link for the second channel.
Ashleigh, I had a wonderful time watching you have a good time. Thank you. 😀
Hollywood Bowl 2016 Little Mermaid showed the movie and had live performers sing the songs and included extra songs and totally worth watching
czcams.com/video/JLViHqAXtdI/video.htmlsi=AgTyA0lHHp2eTK5w this has the night Jodi Benson performed
Great review! I am glad that you liked the new version. I did two. Both movies stand on their own merits. Halle Bailey was fantastic. She has an amazing voice!
Hey Hey there Ashleigh. Don't remember the year, but my mother-in-laws best friend was an original mouseketeer. The entire clan wound up with park passes for the park in Orlando. A big old thirtysomething fan of Tigger got to shake hands and get a picture with him. 😂😂Love your reactions. Hope your birthday was a good day. Have a good weekend. ❤
I think she'd absolutly love the Kingdome Hearts games
Have you ever seen or watched thumbelina.. Jodi Benson does her voice too. >.> and it's my second favorite 'princess' movie. Second to Anastasia
R.i.p. Louis Gossett Jr.
My go to goodfeel movie of him is
Diggstown.
I also like that the modern reinterpretation of these old Disney princess stories add to the actual love story between the couple. It helps address a lot of the complaints that we have had over them years. Show them getting to know each other not just sharing one glance and being in love
The original cartoon is far superior.
I cant wait for deliverance and i recommend the river wild too but its pretty much the same thing
Since M. Emmet Walsh passed away recent, people would probably recommend you do Blood Simple to pay tribute to him while I personally recommend Wild Wild West 1999. Haha.
Funny how you just saw him recently in both Knives Out and Christmas with the Kranks though. Haha.
I loved this remake. I watched The Little Mermaid a bit growing up but it wasn’t my favorite. This remake made me love the story. I watched this in theaters. It was a magical experience
Please watch Dog Soldiers or Kingdom Hospital 😊
This was the only book HCA edited… it had a severely depressing ending, and so he changed it…
I don’t know I kinda like the original
OH I LOVE THE ORIGINAL
You can like both it's not an either or😊
@@nin29nin this has nothing to do with race. all I’m saying is I like the original better?
@@nin29nin This remake is racist. Ariel is supposed to be a white ginger. Disney ruined Ariel, Snow White, Peter Pan, and a long list of other things because of their left-wing politics.
@@JamesDavis-ei6dv Ariel is a mermaid so......
I find this the meh version, not bad but not good. I think my only complaint was how muted the colors were. The movie was too dark to be a tropical location. But because this movie relied so heavily on CGI, bright color would make it more unrealistic than it already is.
I am one of the few who loved Sebastian and Flounder in this movie, they were still kinda cute and adorable.
Fun fact, Lin-Manuel Miranda is such a huge Little Mermaid fan that he name one of his son after Sebastian.
I appreciate you and thank you for making content.
I liked Eric's song, and his whole character development. They really found a way to book-end Ariel and Eric's longings to be a part of each other's worlds. I thought that was great.
I liked Ariel's new song- the one she sings only in her head. That was a good one.
Scuttle's song I was not a fan of. Not terrible, but not great. For me, it didn't fit with the rest: it was too Lin Manuel Miranda, and not enough Ashman / Menken. Don't get me wrong; I love Miranda's work! But it wasn't stylistically consistent with the established musical style of all of the other songs. It stood out, 'sall I'm saying. And it really didn't move the plot at all, or explain anyone's inner feelings, or anything. As exposition of the situation, two lines of dialogue could have done the same thing. So.. not the best, IMHO. Again- not terrible; I did not hate it! But I didn't love it.
Sebastian and Flounder and Scuttle being "photorealistic" CGI animals was off-putting, for me. I know that that's what Disney was going for in this latest live action remake: totally live action, totally photorealistic where actual live action is impossible. But they're already talking; the real life believability is already being stretched. Meh; not great, not terrible, just sort of slightly uncomfortable. I felt the same way about the "live action" Lion King. Their choice to make all of the animals as photo-realistic as possible took away from the anthropomorphic human connection. Honestly, I felt more attached to the animals in "The Incredible Journey" (1963) that were literally live animals that didn't even talk (but for voice-overs). So.. that's my opinion on that.
Overall: Loved it. I loved this movie. There is literally no movie I love that I do not also have some criticisms. Star Wars, Monty Python, Danny Kaye, all of my favorites are not 1000% perfect; they all have their minor flaws, but I love them all the more. I'm not going to put this one quite up there with my favorites of all time, no. But I really did love it quite a lot. I've seen it more than once, would see it again. Halle Bailey was phenomenal; absolutely phenomenal. What a great find, casting-wise. Helluva good movie. Made me laugh, made me cry, made me dance, had a whole lotta heart. 10/10.
I'm not a fan of the live-action Disney movies they've been making lately, but I am a fan of watching Ashleigh enjoy herself! So this made me happy. I won't yuck other people's yums.
Ratched is excellent!!
Probably one of the best live-action Disney movies, save for Jungle Book
I watched it in IMAX 3D and the images were sooo bright and colorful, and the songs sounded like it was live? it was so good!
Love your reactions! As far as a series for Wednesdays, you should try reacting to THE Vampire Diaries. I believe it's right up your alley. Lots of folks also love watching reactions to it.
The weather changing fast scared you? .................... And .......... you've lived in Tennessee, how long?
...... you mad?
This reaction is TOP tier! I am a 90s kid, and elder millennial if you would, and I am LIVING for this!!!!! TLM is my FAVORITE Disney movie!! This making it come to "LIFE" just uh, made my little innner child heart so happy!
You wanna see a really weird and f-ed up film "inspired by" the little mermaid fairy tale? A Polish film: "The Lure" (2015). Super weird. Graphic nudity; get ready with the censor bars and editing. But quite entertaining! The setting and characters are *completely* different! But it for sure pulls elements of the original tale that Disney was not going to touch! Worth a watch, for anyone who's interested. NOT for children!! Adults only!!!
Hey Ashleigh, I got the live-action version of "The Little Mermaid" last Christmas. Halle Bailey played Princess Ariel. Melissa McCarthy played Ursula. I also got the classic version where I like the redheaded Ariel better. That animated movie was released in theaters before your lifetime.
Sorry I'm late but I had people to do and things to see. On Thursday, (yes I'm Aries too) I will be a 63-year-old retired US Navy sailor. While this isn't my trip, I suspect I like this more than when I was a child.
Indira is indeed from Bridgerton! I haven’t seen it yet, but so many people were freaking out over her being in this movie, how could I not know?? Lol
Daveed Diggs played Sebastian. If you don't know who he is, watch Hamilton
Hans Christian Andersen is tuning in his grave for this dishonour.
You're real Stupid because Hans didn't write this version. Know your facts before you post Stupid shit 😊
No he isn’t. Get over it you racist prick
I had Jodie send my GF a video and she started singing down my phone to her
In the original story, in order to become a human, Ariel must sacrifice her tongue. When she gets legs each step is like walking on the blade of a knife.
There some things missing from the original. Especially Chef Louie
I was already an Adult by the time TLM came out long ago. Though my Niece was young, and so got into some of the Disney movies as she went along. I didn't have a huge draw to watch this but figured someone would react to it, so I'll wait until that happens lol. That was you, Ashleigh lol! The movie seemed to do a pretty good job overall. Scuddle was Awkwafina (?). She was in Shang-Chi, and that Rich Asians movie. Anyways, it was fun seeing how much you were very much enjoying this movie Ashleigh lol! 😂
I like this movie as well
Da seaweed is always greener in somebody else’s lake
You dream about going up dare but dat is a big mistake… 🎵 🎶
Did you have a good birthday, Lady Ashleigh?
Ashleigh I'm glad you like this version of The Little Mermaid. The reason there was controversy is because they took a story that was written at a time where you did not have interracial relationships. And there's so many great stories that they could have done straight from Africa and the African culture and then their own version that it was more of a slap to everybody else's face. Glad you like it I like the songs I prefer the animated but we each got our own opinion.
At the 1357 mark Ashleigh says why doesn't she no the importance of CPR. CPR wasn't invented until like the 1900s way before this movie is set.

Thank you!
Making sure you clearly enunciated the "M" in muck during the end credits. (*LOL*)
Thank you for your infectious and joyous reaction to the Little Mermaid. It was fun watching this with you. Happy Belated Birthday. :)
Personally, I loved that Ariel was the one to kill Ursula in this version. When I watched the original as a kid way back when, I hated that part. I hated it because it made no sense that Ariel was an adventurer and a thrill seeker and then at the drop of the hat became so helpless. It didn’t make sense. Also, it made more sense for her to be the one to kill Ursula because it was Ariel‘s fault that Ursula ever became so powerful. That was only possible because of the deal she made with her. So naturally, it makes sense that aerial wood be the one to set it right.
This Prince Eric is played by Jonah Hauer-King.
