- 1 tool woodturning project. This wood turning project was turned with just a 1/2 bowl gouge. Watch how it was done. This video is to show you don't need a lot of tools for woodturning. This was turned from 1/2 of a cedar log. I finished it with friction polish.
I hope you enjoy this new woodturning video
Thanks for watching!

The video cut from the turned inside to the already grinded piece was a little (see the dust on the machine) was a little irretating. But I really love the finished piece! Thumbs upp 😊
Thanks for the info!
Love the grain on this piece, very nice work.
Thank you Richard!

Thank you!
Well nice, nice piece of wood.
Thanks 👍
Nice little piece, well done
Thank you!
Enjoyed your video. Great job!! One suggestion going forward....my appreciation of your project would have been enhanced if you had id'ed the finishing products used😊
Thank you!
I included it in the description, but I'll try adding it in the video next time. Thanks for your input.
Looks great! I'm just about to start getting into some basic bowl turning. How did you dry/store the piece of log before you were ready to turn it? Still trying to learn some of the intricacies of cutting from a log and prepping it for use. Did you even bother drying it knowing it would be a live edge bowl and therefore not caring about warping? Thanks! I've been enjoying watching you make things with simple logs!
This was dry when I found it. I just split in half where the crack was. When you have wet wood you want to seal the end grain right after you cut it. I use an electric skillet and melt wax, then dip the end of the wood in it. Some people also just paint the end with house paint.
Yes. I do imagine you would only need 1 lathe to do wood turning
Good one
G'day
Thanks for uploading, I have heaps of Aussie Blue Gum like that, so in a few days I know what I'll be trying to achieve Thank you,
Are they Shark Jaws you used along with a screw CHUCK?
loved your finished bowl 🥣
Stay safe and have a good one,
Cheers 🍻
Matt
Thank you!
Yes, they are shark jaws.
The finish is friction polish.
Nice job. Thank you for inviting me round 🌞
Thanks ray!
Very nice. I always enjoy your videos and try to learn from them. What is in your bottle that you use for finish?
Thank you!
The bottle is friction polish.
What species of wood is it? Looks a bit like willow.
It's cedar.
Isn't a lathe a tool also a chisel is a tool, nice work though.
Thank you!
I was referring to the gouge. I'll try to be more clear in the future. Thanks.
