  • Sir Viv Richards - The Undisputed King of Cricket. A true epitome of class & fearless approach. He taught the world that fast bowlers can also be taken to the cleaners. Even today’s cricket can’t match the level of his aggression, swag and class. Note: Today on April 15, 1986 Sir Viv dominated England Cricket Team with the fastest recorded century at the time in Test Cricket.

Great words by Inzamam. ul Haq. Once Gavaskar was asked to speak about the best 5 batsmen of the world. He said No1 to no5 was Viv Richards. Richards was simply the best.

Gavaskar has a way of giving twisted compliments like these - mainly because he tried so hard via records and stats to be seen as the best, but found that the non-Mumbai cricketing world simply did not use “number of centuries” or aggregate records to judge greatness.
Leave aside Number Five or whatever, the best batsman of that era was unquestionably Viv Richards. Second was Greg Chappell. Among openers, Gordon Greenidge was not far behind. Then there were Barry Richards and Zaheer Abbas.
All the above could dominate a bowling attack and take control of the game. Not just defend and hang on for dear life to make slow, big scores in drawn matches.

Definitely, Sir Viv was very enigmatic, awe inspiring and divine talent who had ever graced this game. He is the one who will always stand tall amongst large galaxy of cricket star's among any rankings or merits of Batting order. He is like a Sun in galaxy having many planet's moving around him. Their may be a Sachin, Lara, Sehwaag, Inzy Bhai, Gavaskar, Border, Gooch, Miandad, Anwar, Sangakara, Steve Smith, Viraat etc etc but they all would confess and accept supremacy of Sir Viv. The generation who has played alongside Sir Viv or seen him playing live would be the generation who would carry his legacy and stories of numerous battles that Sir Viv have won on and off the field with his unique style, aggression, dominance and power but above all he was very suave and affable off the field. One can go on and on in highlighting his deeds and feats with passion and gratitude for having seen Sir Viv rule the 22 yards strip of Cricket field. Salutations and Thanks to Sir Viv for showcasing the rare and stupendous cricketing skills and talent. 🙏🙏

I remember watching Viv Richards on live tv matches as a kid in mid to late 80s.At that time cricket was very slow compared to today and even in Odis batsman used to start slowly in first ten overs and then gradually build the total to around 220 in 50 overs and 250 was a winning total. During same time I saw Viv Richards hitting 6s to fast bowlers over their head and with that famous flick of the wrist to leg side. I used to get amazed that how can he do this but other batsman with the same bat and ball can’t hit like that.

When he played in England he arrived in an era of appalling racism, with signs regularly saying " No blacks, no Irish, no travellers".It's wonderful to see that his legacy is alive and well in Pakistan. It is hard for someone as instinctive and brilliant to be able to share this knowledge, he was probably unaware himself of what he was doing.

@@juanestadian8471 Well thats a myth Sunil did use to wear protective gears. when he was struck in elbow by Dennis Lillee infact he was one of the first man to wear a arm guard while batting...,,,Temple guard is protective enough secure considering helmet were nowhere developed as of today....
Roadney was also hailed as most exciting raw quick on the scene at the time...,,Took 6 fifers within a year and Viv was playing that summer with a severe back problem that prevented him from touring Nz too in March 1980..
Anyway its only after 1983 when Viv suffered from tyrigium and his eye faded away plus going down from his one down spot which is well known that Viv was a nervous batter in middle order.

Inzi bhai you had the touch of Sir Viv Richards in your batting , but your pressure handling was just exceptional . You were the back bone of the batting . You were the combination of natural aggression and patience simultaneously . A Real match winner.

good on ya Inzy well said ,,, Viv is the pure definition of a blunt force trauma on a cricket ball , yet he was happy to play the most delicate of late cuts and surely the ultimate in precision and power ,,, i still have three SS Jumbo cricket bats from 79 to 82 and waiting for Viv to come back to Australia in the hope of getting him to sign them ,, love your work
