  • jambUpatE is one of the pancha bhUta sthala compositions of Muthuswami Dikshitar. This is a lilting composition on the Lord of Tiruvanaikkaval (near Trichy) in yamuna kalyani that gives a flowing effect since the Lord Shiva in Tiruvanikkaval represents water. Among many amazing details that Dikshitar has packed into this composition, one interesting tidbit is that the name of the place - that is tiruvAnaikkAval - has been embedded in the caraNam enigmatically. The phrase "sAmajATavI" literally translates to "The forest of elephants" which corresponds to "tiru Anai(k) kA" - the older name of this place which later morphed into "tiru-Anai(k)-kAval". Read more about the sthala purANam of this place here: templenet.com/Tamilnadu/s031.html
On the vocals are myself and students. From top left to right: Jayanth Krishnamurthy, Karthik Suresh Iyer, Vivek Thyagarajan, and Meenakshi Kannan; from bottom left to right: Shreya Srinivasan, myself Raghav Chakravarthy, and Karthikeya Vinaykumar.
On the violin is Sahana Sriram who learned this composition on vocals, and on the mridangam is my cousin Shankarprasad Santhanagopalan.

Very aesthetically rendered. You have prepared your students well. The mridangist seems to be playing Tani avartanam. Has a long way to mature into pakkavadhyam playing.
