    Tutorial on data moshing- • HOW TO DATAMOSH: PART 1
    If you're on an operating system higher than snow leopard (10.6), you'll probably have to delete a couple files from AVIdemux for it to operate properly. This link tells ya what to do- www.zerosignal.co.uk/2011/08/a... Right click the avidemux application, then Show Contents. Then delete libxml.2.dylib and libiconv.2.dylib located in Contents/Resources/lib folder. This will make Avidemux work with lion and after.

    After a datamosh, fast movement can make the previous image color disappear (like with the seagulls). I tried to shoot really slow and crisp video. I shot at 60fps and made it slow mo, which eliminated some shakiness. Also shot with a really high shutter speed (no motion blur). I think textured/detailed shots also retain the previous image better.

      I’ve been looking to make a music video now after years of having it on the back burner. I’ve done tests at 240fps and your correct the slower the better. I’ve not seen one smooth flawless video would love to be the first. Im even thinking about shooting at 1000fps. Do you have anymore tips?

    This stuff will get even freakier when we start using neural networks/autoencoders for video compression instead of rectangle-based algorithms. It will compress things the same way our eyes/brains do and become more dreamlike.

    How do you get the datamosh so clean? Without all the pixel stuff?

    • @DoctaPadd
      @DoctaPadd  Před 10 lety +72

      To get a clean datamosh without the pixel stuff, you need to capture sharp and slow moving video. I usually shoot datamosh stuff with a high shutter speed and framerate (I shot in 60fps and conformed it to 24fps.) This helps the new clip "track" the previous clip.

    yo yo yo. I am running snow leopard (10.6) on my mac. I think newer operating systems don't support AVIdemux. There is a way to get it to work though, there are a couple files within the application that, if deleted, should let the program run on 10.7 and above. I put a link in the description.
    As for ffmpegx, I haven't heard of it not running. Maybe you gotta make sure all those components are linked to it properly when you first turn it on?

  • @Hard_Science
    @Hard_Science Před 9 lety +4

    Hey there. Really amazing datamoshing video. I'm using your technique and filming textures at 60fps and slowing it down to 24fps. But I'm still getting a lot of square pixel artifacts. Often the next scene doesn't blend smoothly. These pixel artifacts sort of slowly disappear, almost rhythmically. Are there other settings in Avidemux you're playing with to ensure a smooth transition from scene to scene?

    • @DoctaPadd
      @DoctaPadd  Před 9 lety +1

      HardScienceAV I use all the default settings that come with the 1-stop datamosh package. To get scenes to blend smoothly, the videos have to be slow moving and not shaky. It could also have to do with the quality of source video. A camera with a not-so-great sensor or one that compresses the footage a lot may not work so great.

    • @DoctaPadd
      @DoctaPadd  Před 9 lety +1

      HardScienceAV I used a canon 60D on this video

    • @DoctaPadd
      @DoctaPadd  Před 9 lety +1

      HardScienceAV Also, use a high shutter speed so there is no motion blur :)

    • @Hard_Science
      @Hard_Science Před 9 lety

      Cool. Thanks for the reply. I'm not using a super hi-end camera, but I am shooting at 60fps. Right now I've got a GoPro Hero4 Silver. During my experiments, I've noticed that certain colours don't blend as well as others. And generally, frames with the similar colours and luminence tend to blend nicer than others. Black seems to carry colours from one scene to the next, sometimes over multiple scenes.
      Right now I'm just trying to get a grip on the movement, as well as the best colours between scenes. I guess until I have access to a better camera, this will have to be my approach.

    • @DoctaPadd
      @DoctaPadd  Před 9 lety +4

      HardScienceAV I've for sure noticed with luminance how things that are blown-out or dark black (with no detail) will still carry over color, but kind of make it floaty and milky. This also kind of happens with things that are out of focus. I think making sure footage is properly exposed and that most of the information in the video lies within the center of the luminance spectrum is important for making sure that color from 1st clip tracks onto the 2nd clip. On the other hand, I'm not so sure if color makes a big difference.
      I haven't messed around much with gopros, but they aren't awful cameras. I'm not sure if you can manually adjust settings like shutter speed and aperture, which might be limiting. If there is a way to deactivate auto-exposure on a go pro, it might be helpful.
      Let me know if you upload something so I can check it out! I haven't messed with datamoshing in a while, but comments like this inspire me to get back out and make some cool shit!
