  • This is a video on how to convert a bike bag to a quick on and off keyed mounting system from a normally velcro attached bike bag, using the MIK Make It Click system.
Hope some will find it helpful.

Pretty cool! I’m pretty sure you made the only video on youtube about a conversion like this, it was hard to find!

Just wanted to say that this is an awesome solution. I was doubting if such a bag would stay firmly attached while I'm gravel riding, yet with such a MIK solution I'm confident it will. Big thanks and a high five from this side of the pond 🙂

Thank you for this Idea. I'll answer some comment questions. For those wondering about Plexiglass. You can find them in Larger Picture frames. If you are okay with a non Clear option, look for flexible cutting boards. You can cut these with Tin snips, or even a robust pair of scissors.
Because I have an Electrical saw, I would go a plain plastic cutting board. Plain cutting boards are cheap, easily available and it will make the whole thing sturdier; produce an additional frictional binding (due to texture) when bolted, spread the stresses (by being rigid) away from the bolt points.
The stock bag bottom is likely to have 4 layers. Outer shell, Backing or stiffening material (Cardboard/plastic), inner padding (foam), inner shell. When drilling holes, it s a good idea to glue the edge of those holes. This will make sure fabrics don't fray and the layers do not separate with vibration. I would use polyurethane glue / shoe goo / anything with a flexible hold. (NO SUPREGLUE) Wait for the glue to dry before inserting the bolts. Glue is more important if you are using the flexible cutting board/plexiglass since they will both produce localized cinching around bolts.

Thank you for sharing this! What did you use for a template when drilling the holes through the plexiglass & bag, please?

Since you drilled holes in the bag, there’s no guarantee it won’t leak at the drill area. Double that no guarantee if you don’t have a rear fender.

Man, I sure would like to have seen the whole installation process. My bike has A MIK bike rack and I have a Rockbros trunk bag. I want to install the MIK adapter plate on my bag and I have a hard time figuring it out. 😕

Nicely done. Did you use a knife to cut through the plexi glass as well to fit inside the bag?

Try to drill out the holes using first a small new drill bit so as not to shatter the plexiglass, then a bigger one the right size for the holes

I think it's probably cheaper if you do the conversion yourself then buy a MIK bag/basket...
Soooo much cleaner look and quicker, then with all the straps needed...

I guess the "Key" can be a plus or a minus. Minus because without it, you can't readily detach a bag, but a plus because WITHOUT IT -you (and that pesky bag-stealing THIEF can't readily detach the bag.
