  • I'm in new surroundings on a writing trip with The Darkness in Scotland so please, forgive the strange ah hoc setting. However, great news, Metallica have surprised everyone by releasing a brand new song only yesterday! Its called "Lux Aeterna". They have bestowed some much needed thrash upon our willing ears this week. What do you think of it? Are you happy, disappointed, excited, annoyed...talk to me.

James' voice, for a man in his 60s is insane. It's almost like he's found his higher range from the early Metallica days. The fact it's Metallica meets Ac/Dc, meets Motörhead, meets punk, meets old thrash, meets heavy rock WITHOUT a thinly veiled reskin of old Metallica is just *Chef's kiss

It's a fun mix of styles. "Back to the roots" isn't fully true because as Justin said, it is more on the "rock end of trash" which is spot on. Clearly has Motörhead feel but some of the licks really remind me of heavy rock or hair metal more than Kill 'em all, to be honest. Anyway, it kicks a**!

@I Just Wanna Talk About Games There's at least some truth in that, they still had to find their style and the lyrics were quite bold compared to their following records, so Kill 'Em All probably wasn't the best reference for my statement, but I hope you get the idea.

I wanted to love it, and am so glad I didn't have to try !!! I saw them w/ Cliff open for Ozzy when I was 16... NOW when are you going to talk about RAMMSTEIN ??? Especially since they are retiring and their last two "final" albums ? I'm so happy you are still amazing and funny and a serious musician as well. And our pibble Murphy is in love with Jussy's Girl. Where thrash and punk meet. Bit of Motorhead, bit of AC/DC for sure. But also, a good dose of Suicidal Tendencies. Not a huge Metallica fan but this song is great! Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.

Greetings from Bishy Vegas! Bishop Auckland, Me Hawkins. Again I wish I could say I was more a Metallica fan but full marks for the return to upper tiers of thrash goddery! Im more of a Punk that an orthodox metaller, there's the likeness to motorhead that I was saying to myself! just as your great and good self mentioned it on your deliberation, but there's a nod into the thrash punk riffs of the Exploited around the album Beat the Bast@rds! I just wanted to ask you how you feel about the amount of alcohol ads and the nature of alcohol over consumption becoming normalised over the festive period! And the possible side affects it can give to people in recovery and of course the people who should be in recovery but haven't embraced the abyss of it yet. I almost killed myself with alcohol and would drink 150units plus a day, in fact I could get up to watch the BBC breakfast news drink a bottle of scotch in an hour and still have the shakes. I ended up with Gastric intestinal bleeding, esophageal varices, accute pancreatitis, liver damage. And when withdrawing full in hallucinations, delerium tremors, the shakes, fits and seizures. My body had that little potassium in it my legs could hold me up and almost had a heart attack. I've been sober 9 years now and hate the fact Xmas is so acceptably booze orientated. After all did the 3 wise men come with a crate of super strength, a bottle of white star cider and a bottle of buckfast? N.b other GUT ROT is available from your friendly neighbourhood death camp shop! X

    New Album.New Tour.
Got to see Metallica with Ozzy when their Master of Puppets came out.
I really didn't know much about them, my brother did of course, but after that concert, fan ever since.
Metallica literally sucked the juice of the Syracuse War Memorial's electrical system and everything went dead and dark.
Kirk was still shredding his strings in a frenzied state until he realized they blew the circuits.
Metallica's show was so loud you could feel the pressure of the gear.
Got to see Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio on their Mob Rules album tour at the same venue.
When they did Heaven and Hell, the War Memorial went nuts.
Ronnie is from CNY, which is where Syracuse is located.
Ronnie used to play at the Lost Horizon in this little band called Elf.
If you don't know Hoochie Coochie Lady by Elf, you're in for a treat.
Ronnie was so nice to his fans. Always, "Yes, and thank you. I'm glad you like our music".
Got to see ACDC's Back in Black at the same venue. Ronnie Montrose's Gamma opened up for them.
What a time it was to be into hard rock and metal.
Diamond Head's song title says it how it was, *_It's Electric_*
