    A wet clutch is immersed in a cooling lubricating fluid that also keeps surfaces clean and provides smoother performance and longer life. Wet clutches, however, tend to lose some energy to the liquid. So not more efficient!

    Always appreciate the practical approach to reviewing modestly spec'd cars. Driving "slow car fast" with that 150hp power plant is an under-discussed aspect of sub 200hp equipped cars. The bottle storage and middle compartment sizing is unforgivable, IMO, when those are known requirements for contemporary drivers (thinking of the interior design choices by Honda for the current Civic hatch). Here in the States, the closest that we'll come to the A1 is something in the Golf line, I suspect. Thank you for another comprehensive review!

    This looks so much better than the old A1. I think the bold look absolutely works. Small cars shouldn’t be styled any differently. We should be incentivising people to buy smaller, more efficient cars. So make them look awesome and desirable.
    We probably need some kind of political intervention to tax inefficient, large cars or give perks to drivers of smaller vehicles that are in addition to EV incentives like the ones in Norway. Otherwise the whole thing will get out of hand and everyone will be driving around as a single person in a BMW X7 or similar. That’s not what we need when we’re desperately trying to be more sustainable.

    • @Mastermindthreethousand
      @Mastermindthreethousand Před 5 lety

      Everyone? 1 in 3 Belgian families can NOT afford any new car. Despite a lot of Audi's driving around here, most of them are company lease cars or owned by people with serious debts (loans) just to be able to drive it... Which is stupid.
      What winds me up is that even the smallest cars cost small fortunes now because of the so-called tech in it. I have a 2006 Vauxhall Astra 1.7cdti 110hp SW with 8 airbags, decent speakers, cruise control and 16inch sports tyres with loads of space. It cost €17.000 back then, the same car today will cost me about €25.000 or for €17.000 I could get a basic Vauxhall Corsa with maybe some options. With a fuel economy of just 5L/100km I can cope with any other modern engine and family car. Though I absolutely love the upgrade in exterior design in the automotive world, the prices are ridiculous and that's why a lot of families keep their old large diesel which is just fine. If I have €10.000 spare, I will look to get a 5y old proper 2nd hand car, in which my family of 4 and luggage can fit comfortably for the longer journey. In a few years, that overpriced family car of today will be just worth that. Nothing more.

    • @Mastermindthreethousand
      @Mastermindthreethousand Před 5 lety

      Yes, let's tax those poor families some more with no other option than to keep their large old diesel, because they can't afford to buy a "more economical / ecological " car because of all the road and energy taxes they are already paying for. THAT will teach them!! Those filthy littering families with their big cars. Ironically, my small Peugeot 1.4 75hp 206 in my 20's spilled 10L/100km. My large diesel family car of 2006 spills just half of that. While diesel and benzine are equally pollutant. Let me inform you about a proper fact : I drive only 15.000km per year. A lot of small cars, or so-called greener cars, have a travel of 45.000km per year, resulting in much more pollution just because of the distance driven. If I were properly taxed on fuel economy and effective CO2 exhaust, I would pay waaaayyy less taxes than the next commuter who drives 100km to work everyday, even if his car is state of the art engine technology. That would be fair taxing. Not to be penalized on what you CAN AFFORD TO HAVE AS A TRANSPORT, BUT TO BE PENALIZED ON YOUR ACTUAL POLLUTION RATE ON A YEARLY BASIS. That also would tackle the traffic jam issues on the highway. Case closed

    • @christill
      @christill Před 5 lety

      Jurgen VdN You have a point about distance driven. But even if you’re driving short distances with an old car, it’s going to be running cold and spewing all sorts of harmful stuff for us all to breathe. And running incredibly inefficiently. I might consider an eBike or electric motorcycle / scooter or something.
      I’m mainly talking about taxing NEW larger cars and incentivising smaller, more efficient cars. But there needs to be more education about old cars. People have this mindset that keeping a car until it falls apart is economically a good idea. I’d dispute that. Expensive repairs, inefficiencies of an old engine plus extra inefficiency caused by ageing of that old technology. It’s often cheaper to just get a new car.

    • @Mastermindthreethousand
      @Mastermindthreethousand Před 5 lety

      @@christill It certainly isn't cheaper for me. 245.000km now, repair costs from 200.000km till now is about €2.500. My car drives as new now. A new, same standard, car would cost me €25.000. I don't have the money. I have kids and a house to pay for. Economically for a private owner keeping a car until repair costs get too high, is always better. I use my bike to go to work, 5km. My wife has to drive to people's houses (30km radius) to clean for them. She can't get a company car though, but her boss who is behind a desk every day does have a company car, to stand in traffic jam each day. I am telling you, the logic behind it is non existant. We had 2 cars in the past, we sold 1 because we need only 1. I had an ebike, government canceled the free part of electricity and raised taxes on it from 6% to 21%. We were careful with spilling water, the government decided to reward that good behavior with the cancelation of free water and raising the price of it. 5 years ago diesel was €1 per L, about, and now they raised taxes so its €1,50 per L now. All this resulted in a yearly extra energy cost of €2.000. So the struggle is just unfair for working people. I would have had the money now for a modern car if taxes would have stayed the same... Now don't come complaining to me having and keeping my old diesel.

    Those who say it is too expensive and compare the A1 to cheaper makes and models have missed the point. This aspect has been explained well by Brian in the review. The new Audi A1 has dramatic exterior styling with cues borrowed from the Audi ur-Quattro car making it look special, a fascinating angled design interior that is driver orientated and the 35 TFSI (1.5 litre) is the one to go for as you get the best of the driving experience and plenty of encouragement. Although, what I don’t like is Audi ditching the MMI wheel for a larger touchscreen as using the clickwheel has a good rotating sound and less distracting to use.

    • @MajorKlanga
      @MajorKlanga Před 5 lety +5

      Depends on the actual differences; I have just bought an Ibiza 115 and am hugely disappointed with it. The interior is full of trim buzzes, the 8" infotainment is full of glitches, the steering is incredibly numb, wind and tyre noise are excessive, the driver's seat lacks lumbar and thigh support, the cruise control on the indicator stalk is infuriating because it is fiddly and I keep indicating accidentally, fuel consumption is not great, the tailgate has to be slammed really hard to make sure it is shut , the gearchange is notchy and imprecise, the brakes are snatchy at low speeds and it doesn't pull smoothly from low revs. If the Audi overcomes these problems, it might be worth the extra or just buy a non-VAG product.

    • @colin2975
      @colin2975 Před 5 lety +3

      @@MajorKlanga The A1 is an Ibiza/Polo with a different body and interior, so the A1 is going to be extremely similar to your car, particularly where the engine/brakes etc. are concerned. Not a totally relevant example but... in the previous generation of these cars, the Ibiza was quieter in the Autobild test than the Audi, and it got a better reliability score. So, honestly, don't think the extra cash would buy you anything more than the badge and the different interior. They're all basically the same VAG car and, just based on my personal experience, the whole 'German build quality and engineering' thing is only marketing hype.

    Beautiful design, but price is definitely to much for what it is.I would like to see some sport version of it, but full like a RS1 :).34:50 there is no cameras or police, but still that is stupid.Well, he will learn hard way then..

    I didn't like the grill. Too many large holes... I can see that stones will damage the condenser/radiator and that will not be covered by warranty so that's going cost a packet when that happens!

    Why is the marked moving towards suv? A suv is not optimized as a road car and not an off road car either. So what is it for besides being fake? Is that a part off all fake trends on new cars? Fake vents and fake exhaust and fake plastic chrome fake exhaust sound from the speakers... I'm frustrated. I think need to get an old car from back when quality and style was the trend

  • @franciscoazevedo1346

    Its not that I dont like SUVS cause they are more confortable and even my mother is going to buy one because of her back problems. BUT, she always had small cars all her life, and she loves them, and to be honest I still think alot of people do, and the younger generations, getting a Mini or something small and a bit modern is a bit of dream, and of course not anyone can have it. But for people that I guess have a bit of money, buying a little modern car is something that I quite understand for the younger generations that recently got their license to drive. I like this car, and I have driven the mini and its a fucking pain in comfort. But I still think it has a unique style to it that makes me enjoy it more than the audi, though I really love this A1

    The exterior styling is very good, and I like the distinctive green colour/gold wheels. The only thing I dont like is the lack of rear LEDs. The infotainment systems also look good. I really dont like those cloth seats though, and would want leather. Good review, but I think you should have gone in to the infotainment systems in more detail.

    Not convinced by the exterior or interior styling. Exterior wise, the lack of a quaterlight bugs me because it reduces visability and makes the car look like a car that's been used in advert to advertise a service or another product. For example, in order to not advertise the brand and/or model they edit out the rear quarter window (i.e Nissan Qasgaqai - Halfords advert, Ford Sierra - Ogilvy Ford Mondeo advert). I think the interior is too angular and will date quickly. This car will sell because it's an Audi but i think the Ibiza shows that a cheaper car can be just as edgy and the Polo that a cheaper car can be just as premium. I do like the green colour though.

    Be interesting how this is prices compared to the A class. But Audi does digital dashes the best, end off! I like the performance for a 150hp engine. Wonder if they’ll offer a 180hp option like before?

      kraenk12 nope but Mercedes don’t offer a car in this size, and looking at the new A1 online configuration tool, it’s incredibly easy to exceed the A class list price! Typical Audi rip off. The Mini offers much better value if you want a premium small car.

    A normaly equipped A1 (Proline, S-tronic with the ytiny 1.0l 116hp, Thomas Blue Metallic paint, 17" wheels, front sport seats WITHOUT leather as it's not even available, steering wheel with paddles, cruise ontrol - AN EXTRA!, parking sensors - ALSO AN EXTRA) costs 280 000 swedish dollars (25k €) . No active driving display - no S-line package. Nothing special at all. Even a 3 cylinder engine.
    For 17 000 (1553 €) more I built a Mazda 6 Wagon with what they call the Vision package here. Only 17" wheels on that larger car, but still.. Only addon needed was Carplay/AA.
    Much larger car, better quality, more everything. It would be one thing if the A1 costed like a car one size up. But this is just ridicouls. The car Autogefül is driving would probably cost like a Optimum 6 with the 190hp 2,5 or 2.2 diesel. Or a decent Passat. Or a decent anything els not BMW, Audi or Mercedes. Well.. It's probably a steal compared to a Mercedes. Most things are :P
