I've been dying to get my hands on the brand new 2019 AUDI A1 Sportback since it was released a few months back, I love small affordable cars. Although they start at around £17k OTR (£230 ish per month on PCP), this particular press car retails at a smidge under £29k 😅
Full Review on the new AUDI A1 Sportback S Line coming soon 👌

The stalling is from the rev assistance when you let off the clutch, especially when stopped then roll off with 1st gear, the amount of gas you are giving is overridden by the computer unless you rev it high up to close to 2k or something. Unlike the M2C, there’s rev assist but when the gas paddle is pressed even just slightly that input always has precedence over the computer match.
You can try with releasing the clutch slowly without any gas to find the contact point briefly and you know what I mean.
    - M2C owner, driven an A3 some years ago, disappointed and hated that rev assistance, wished Audi would have improved on that but apparently not, they want you to drive stick shift as if you don’t have a clue (rolling off without any gas and let the computer do it for you)
I am in love with my M2C too, that’s how I got to know your channel, great vids, thank you and highly appreciated !

Great review Joe, can easily see why this is 28k, and people will go and spend that, just look at the Mini. If I wanted a small high quality econonical commuter car on a PCP with a beast in the garage for summer, this would be my pick.

The downside on the new A1 is the price. I tested a red Sline fully loaded Stronic. For that 36K euros you get a better car if you go for an A3 with a similar price andlooks more expensive. The A1 drives very good though, not as good as the A3. I found the A3 has a better center of gravity and less wobbly. Great video!

    Hi Joe,
Just wanted to mention I think the S Line is still the top trim level on these cars. The Contrast and Style Editions are effectively the same just come with darkened LED lights & blacked out styling, sort of like a limited edition thing but basically the same equipment. As for the Competition - that’s the 200hp edition, if you could get your hands on one of those I’d be interested in your opinion on it. :)

Hi Joe, this is a very good looking car. Thank you for your first impressions. In your full review: can you say a word about the clutch? We have an older A3 and driven some other Audis and the clutch in almost every driven Audi is, let me say, a bit "doughy" and in my opinion, it takes a very long way/time to engage. Is it the same in this new car? Thank you in advance.

Given the characteristics of the 35TFSI engine, it is hard to justify the lag in the second gear. I doubt this is turbo lag; this is most likely the result of Audi prioritizing fuel consumption over performance in the way it has programmed the engine.

I had a BMW 118i courtesy car with a manual box last year, also seemed very high geared. I found it would do 68mph in 2nd. I thought it stunted the car especially out of bends and roundabouts and I find it odd that my own bigger output (but not m-lite) petrol 2 series has lower manual gearing (reaches about 60 in 2nd).

I totally understand why Audi changed their engine badges as most of these mass produced turbocharged cars share the same displacement - but in different states of tune. But I really do hope that they won't cut costs too much by ditching the RS and S branding because of this. Perhaps i'm being overly skeptical too early but it just seems so wrong to call those as something like a '70 TFSI' because it'll cause confusion and tarnish the halo/Q-car image of the RS and S range.

I don't agree on fact that cars in lover range should mandatory have bad materials. Manufacturers should give an option to upgrade these bits as they do offer upgrades on seats and other interior trim. But bottom line it's their loss as they could make a lot of money doing so, as people who can afford 30-40k € for posh car will certainly add another thousand to get a better feel around the front row.
