- Steve LeBlanc put a good shot an a big Cape buffalo during his hunt in Zimbabwe with PH Zayne van der Merwe, but it wasn't enough to bring the bull down. The two were forced to track the wounded buffalo through heavy cover when the beast charged through the brush, forcing a life-saving shot from LeBlanc. #shorts

The meat is shared and consumed by the hunter and locals. African game hunting is heavily regulated, guided by people that have to qualify to do so. Usually the ones they are after are the ones that have left the heard and are not involved in the mating and have lost the battles for herd pecking order.

Those guides earned a big tip having to go in after that bull, it’s about one of the most dangerous things you can do as a hunter in Africa. Bulls have been known to do a half circle and attack the hunters from behind.

I know a lot of African hunters don’t like lever action rifles. But for situations like these I feel lever guns have a better advantage then bolt action. A lever gun would make for a really good back up rifle in my opinion.
You may think a lever action is the way to go, but you'd be wrong.
1) Lever actions - because of their many parts - jam far easier than bolt actions: and believe me, you DON'T want your rifle jamming at such situations!!
2) Lever actions are not strong enough to cope with the massive pressures DG calibres generate (and, NO, the 45/70 is NOT a dangerous game calibre!!)
3) The BEST rifle to have when hunting DG is a double express rifle (.470 NE,.500 NE are superb calibres for this)
4) Failing that, a "controlled rifle feed" bolt action rifle is a very good choice.
5) As your PH will be backing you if things go nasty, my next choice would be for a Farquarson falling-block single shot rifle in .416 Rigby, or any DG calibre of .450 and upwards.
A lever action would definitely not be a choice for dangerous game.

He got alittle too excited rushed the shot but fortunately he got the job done. Sometimes especially the first time all the stories create way to much anxiety once it's "Go time" finally. He pulled himself together though and finished quite nicely.

Cape buffalo are EXTREMELY tenacious, and have been known to take over 20 large calibre rounds at close range, and then put in a charge and gore people!! They're not called "Black Death" or "The Widow-maker" for nothing, son!!

Maybe try learning how to make a well placed shot. Don't take a shot unless you know you can put it in the kill zone.
Do a little bit of research on hunting these animals and you’ll see it’s never one shot.

A bit gratuitous to show without explanation of why it is deemed necessary to kill such an animal. There mau have been a good reason to cull it...but that is not obvious.

Even conservation groups recognise that legal, controlled, hunting of game is a proven effective and mandatory game management strategy. Yeah and I hate it too but from my understanding they do things to help the populations. Like that big male giraffe that could no longer mate but was killing younger male giraffes. A guy paid a crap ton to take it as a trophy. But the money goes towards the conservation and the meat I believe goes to the tribes and what not. As long as they do things that way I don’t have an issue with it.

How about placing your shots well. If you cant shoot accurately you shouldnt be hunting you should be on the range. Secondly. Sit and wait a minute for the animal to die before you go charging in after it like a moron spooking it further into brush or get yourself charged

You can't shoot for the head of a cape buff. It's a tricky shot, and if you stuff it up, you've got trouble coming your way.
guys, if you want to hunt, hunt like real men. Hunt with swords and shields. That is what real hunters do. A hunter with a gun has undo advantage and there is no real caliber or greatness to it.
