A kid who never made any rep honours as a secondary school athlete and rugby league junior, who was overlooked by talent scouts from the Cowboys, Broncos and the Titans. Never complained, put in the hard work and has displayed class and character throughout his career, the rewards?...premiership, state of origin and international success, club, state and international try scoring records. If you're a young up and coming athlete who is struggling with the battle to continue with your goals, Val Holmes is your ideal inspiration. His ability to outwork everyone in the room, demonstrate model citizen characteristics, his "can do" attitude to never give up on your dreams and to pursue new dreams with no fear makes me grateful to have young men like him in our league.
What a shame to lose such a talent from rugby league. Maroons will miss our biggest strike player. His 11 tries in two games for Australia was a once in a lifetime spectacle.
