Watching this movie of Canon R5 ii release from almost an year .. I wish Canon succeeds in this version and get hold of some consumers which they lost after R5 heat issues were raised
I will be ordering an R5ii for sure. Held a z8 and R5 at the store, it just felt more comfortable/lighter and more intuitive to use the dials etc.
What would the benefits for stills shooter? Seems the tech mostly focused on video shooter - I don’t need faster focus on a landscape or tracking a tree and a mountain. Would like better noise and light sensitivity for Astrophotography
Some of us shoot birds and wildlife though. So it is VERY important!

Would be nice to get an r7mk2 announcement before the New Year.. Give us bird photographers an R7 with a faster read-out, better weather sealing, minimal rolling shutter, and a battery grip. The R7 is great, but it lacks what it should have been in some areas. I'm excited for those who are waiting for the r5mk2 and r1 though. Happy shooting 📷
From rumors I have heard I would not expect a R7 Mk2 this year. I agree with your sentiment that the R7 was a bit of a disappointment (e.g., slow readout speed and no vertical grip).
Honestly if they fit those two or three things, it would be the perfect camera for me.
I recently got the r7 paired with the 100-500, and love it. It fits the bill for my needs, but it should be the 7dmk2 replacement, which unfortunately it's not. Probably an upgrade to the 90d.
I have played and played with the autofocus settings on the R7 and have finally learned how to eliminate the pulsing that I was getting. The rolling shutter is definity an issue, but I find that I get mostly good images out of every burst. I shoot some highly sensitive species where I have to shoot silently. One blast of click, click, click and they are gone or their natural behavior is changed. As for the vertical grip, I actually like the small, lightweight form factor of the R7. It's perfect for hiking. So I don't miss the grip. Very easy to carry an extra battery in my pocket. After just two years, not ready to trash it and buy a new one quite yet!
@@KevinNordstromBut if you recall, the 90d was supposed to be the successor to the 7dii. The R7 has better specs in every category than the 7dii, including a larger buffer. It's just that it shoots so fast that it fills up faster. But it is definitely a significant upgrade.
(1) CFexpress type B and (1) UHS-II card slots instead of (2) CFexpress Card ..... take me off the list.
Rumors, "reliable sources." Rumors are just that: rumos. And "reliable sources" often turn out to be not that reliable.

I am glad to have the SD card slot.I don't do video and I do not really want to buy a CF card. I am also glad we still get a mechanical shutter. I love my flash! I am stoked!
Try a CFexpress Type B... you'll change your mind as I did.

If you shot in rapid mode, the CFexpress is worth it for stills. Makes a bit difference for wildlife. If you're just doing landscapes, not really necessary.
R1 is still a mystery
Three questions remain for the R5ii . . . 1. How much bigger than the R5? . . . 2. How much heavier? . . . 3. Besides eye control AF, what else (if anything) is there for stills shooters? (Incidentally . . . the eye control AF REQUIRES a new EVF. The EVF will have to have eye position sensors that the R5 EVF doesn't have. The EVF resolution may not be improved at all.)
It's possible to be bigger and not heavier if they use lighter materials... but how different will it be. I'm curious for sure. CR does say it is getting a new EVF.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker , yes, if it gets eye control AF, it will HAVE to get a new EVF. They can't use the same EVF if they offer eye control AF, so I consider both of those bullet points to be one bullet point. Unless a source has specifically said the EVF will be higher res, I would not assume that's the case. The eye control EVF of the R3 is different than the R5's EVF, but the resolutions are the same.
Honestly... If you get better and faster AF, stacked BSI 45MP sensor that massively improve low light capabilities with a fast readout for minimal to no rolling shutter, 30 fps, possibly pre-shooting.... I mean what is there more to ask? You could argue better battery life but other than that at this point the only thing missing is an AI to take the shots for you
@@mrsuperselenio5694 There is only more to ask because we don't know that any of this is real yet. It's all just rumor, conjecture, and guesses. There's a fair chance that some of that laundry list will not be coming in the R5ii. That's why I say the three questions remain open. When Canon speaks up (or dealers leak out the real stuff), the questions will be answered.

Yes. Give us more L. Leave the "regular" lenses to the third-party makers. The third parties seem to do mid-grade lenses better than Canon does.

At $3999 the R5 mk2 shows itself to be an upgrade but not what would be considered a significant or major upgrade. For new buyers, sure get one, but for existing stills shooters I don't expect a large measurable difference than the original R5. There will be some improvement in AF and video (and cooling), but if I was a video centric photographer shooting with Canon gear, the upcoming R6 mk 3 looks like a better value. I would pay at bit more than $3999 if Canon would indeed make that special 60+ mpx full frame. Despite the naysayers, this is the direction the camera makers will have to go, otherwise lets all start using our cell phones /s.
For photographers that use the camera for wildlife photography the stacked sensor and improved AF will likely be reason enough to upgrade. It is for me. The linear resolution difference between a 45 MP and 60 MP FF sensor is minimal and personally I am glad that Canon stuck with 45 MP for Mk2 version.
It could be that 8K60 requires the cooling grip.... which is why the phrase "with caveats" was used. Might have record limit as well.
That is the best suggestion I have heard about what the caveats could be David. Makes a lot of sense.

R1 is rumored to have a full sized HDMI port, but the port size on the R5 Mk2 is not disclosed as of June 5, 2024. We will know more in less than two weeks.
I must say, if the R5M2 doesn’t do 8K60 Canon will get a lot of grief about it. Nikon’s Z8 does and isn’t considered to be a “new” camera anymore. I don’t really care about it one way or the other. I’m more photographer than videographer. I would like a fast stacked sensor with minimal rolling shutter in electronic shutter mode without sacrificing too much dynamic range.
...and I suspect that we will get a fast stacked sensor with limited loss of DR. Just compare the R3 to the R6 Mk2 dynamic range. Basically, the same.

The R5 MKII has to have 8K RAW 60fps. If not, then the R5C will still be better for me, and I maybe won't upgrade... ok, the R5C has this mode with working AF not with the internal battery but only with external power supply. This is the reason why my R5C is heavy because the BG with DC is always attached to it, as I like 8K-RAW 60.
Can it shoot 4k60 raw without crop like in z8? If not, I will go for z8. That's the only thing holding me from getting z8.
We likely will not have this information until the official release date and even then it might not be available until the manual is published. Less than two weeks to go.
The r5 mk2 must have 8k 60p. If not ill be waiting on what the sony a1 mk2 has to offer.

I was lucky and got my RF200-800 the day the embargo was lifted. I know a lot of people who are still waiting.
Do you think Canon will ship “kits” first before body only? I would prefer body only but will purchase whatever I can get first.
I think a bit of both.
RIDICULOUS for Canon to make R5II video centric camera when there is already the R5C.
My best guess is that, because the R5C is an INCH thicker than the R5, this is an effort to make a less-bulky R5C. (Or at least to move that bulk underneath the camera in the grip.) And since it's cheaper to make a ton of just one design rather than half a ton of two different designs, Canon is calculating that stills shooters will tolerate a slightly bigger, slightly heavier, somewhat video-centric R5ii. We will see.
It looks like this is going to be an amazing year for photographers and videographers! I doubt that the R5ii isn't going to be able to shoot 8k60. It's literally a must! Maybe it was indeed a mistake in translation.
CR again said 8K60 today with caveats...

We still haven’t seen any leaked photos of the r5 mkii. Is this unusual within 2 weeks of the announcement? Also, following the Formula One leaked photos, I was expecting more photos and specs of the R1 now that the Euros are well underway. Is it not being used at the Euros?

So hard to believe the R5 is selling on Canon USA today for $2999 and the R5 II will sell for just $1000 more. Not much difference in price.

30 FPS with the same algorithm as the R5 will be unusable.
Also if I hear one more "pro" state that having different card types is a good thing, I will slap them with a 70-200 until they get from behind their keyboard.
Having shot pro sports with Nikon D5s with dual CFExpress B card vs. mixed all I can say is these guy are clueless.
For sports you need speed writing to cards as the buffer clears. No ifs or buts.
I currently shoot with 2x R3s and it isn't as great as 2x D5s in the buffer department. Adding an SD card for JPGs doubles the time.

I do wonder what Sony has been up to since the A6700 and the A9-III. Maybe an A7-IV in a retro body? I don't know! Not that I would switch from Canon, but it's interesting to see what each manufacturer is offering. I'm starting to hear more whispering about an R6-III in the works. The price discount on the Mk-II has been sustained long enough to make it seem plausible. I would be a little upset since I've only had my R6-II a little over 6 months. While I can name a few improvements I'd like to see, the R6-II is still a great camera! I've even heard an R7-II could be coming next year. Also a great camera with some minor things that could be improved. Exciting times!
why would Sony release a retro body when they have no old film or DSLR bodies to base a retro design on? that will never happen mate

@@Hodenkat agreed. Most "retro" buyers aren't buying because of heritage. (Most of those guys are dead by now.) Most "retro" buyers are buying the cool styling.
I'm curious to see Sony's a1mk.ii. The a1 is an amazing camera at a nosebleed price. Tempting, but not tempting enough for that price. If Sony can compete with the Nikon Z9 / Z8 while using a lighter weight body, I'll be tempted to complete my brand switch. (I've already switched from Canon to Sony for street photography.) I won't settle for 24MP and I don't want to carry around a lot of video features / weight / size with my stills camera.

I remember you talking about the possibility of r5 mii having built in ND’s and was looking at patent filings. Have you heard anything more on this topic or think this is still a possibility?
Nothing specific, just comments stating that the R5 will be much more capable in video. The C400 has internal ND filters, so the technology has been applied.
I want one of those electronic VND filters like the Sony

With the R1 having only a 24MP sensor, it's DOA to me and I'm sure lots of other potential buyers.

Good question. The R5C has a fan hanging off the back. Maybe an R5C user can answer?
I have a c70 and the fan is loud in standby mode but gets silent during recording. That’s my assumption about this battery grip.

I assume it will since the R6 Mk2 has RAW pre-capture burst mode. With that said, I hope Canon does a better job of implementing it on the R5 mk2 and R1.
On the R6 Mk2:
1) RAW images captured are saved in a single file (roll). These files have a .CR3 file extension.
2) Picture Style, white balance, and Auto Lighting Optimizer settings configured for the first shot also apply to the next shots.
3) The camera does not beep as you are shooting.
4) [Shooting: RAW burst mode] reverts to [Disable] when the power switch is set to Power off.
On the R5 Mk2 and R1 I really hope that pre-capture RAW are saved as individual files and that RAW burst mode does NOT revert to disable when one turns the camera off.

Why do camera manufacturers equip their upper-end camera bodies with different memory storage? This is comparable to selling a very fast, expensive sports car with three high-speed wheel/tire combinations and a low-speed spare wheel/tire. Even in countries with unfavorable exchange rates, anyone affording an upper-end camera body will likely be able to afford CF Express type B storage. What are camera manufacturers thinking?
CF-E cards generate a LOT of heat. Some camera bodies can't handle the heat of two of them so close together.
@@billmartin1010 Thank you for shedding light on my question. Now I'm wondering why, after about four years, Canon hasn't engineered a solution to allow two of the same card type. Perhaps they did and this is simply what we will get in the R5 II.
They are thinking that photographers have a sh!tload of SD cards laying around, and they want the ability to still use them.
