The valve cover update usually fixes these. They love to leak out of the oil cooler/block off plate gasket also, as well as rear main seal and cam sensor. If you do end up doing a rear main seal follow the housing alignment procedure very well and it’ll stay dry another 150,000+ miles.
Hope it works! If you still have any issues, MMO the motor. It freed up my oil control rings and the piston drain holes. Literally no oil consumption now. It is such a relief to not have to check the oil constantly.
I had a auto shop teacher 20 years ago tell us, They would pull the plugs and let GM top engine cleaner soak in the cylinders for a day to clear out carbon and free up rings.

I ordered the Range tuner for my 2013 GMC Sierra with the 5.3, I went from using one quart between oil changes at 4,000 miles to 1/4 quart. I honestly didn’t notice a loss of fuel economy and there is less valve train noise now that the AFM is deleted. I honestly feel like it was a great investment!

The RANGE AFM delete will help out a lot. I have a 2006 GMC yukon with the 5.3 (pre afm) with the original valve cover and I have zero oil consumption issues with that motor. My very low mileage 2006 Monte Carlo SS with the 5.3 has oil consumption issues b/c of the AFM crap, but I have only put 26K miles on it since I bought it new in 2006. I have a 2018 6.2 Sierra and put the RANGE in it from the first week of ownership. I'm very happy with it and have never had battery drainage issues; even if the truck sits for a week or more.
I hear a lot of Dorman bashing on youtube but the last few Dorman parts I got for my old Focus have been quality pieces. One was the ignition lock cylinder and the other was the connector for the coil pack. For an 03 Focus sometimes Dorman is all you find. I don't know why all the Dorman hate out there. Hope those parts solve your issue.
They can be really hit and miss, I've personally installed Dorman exhaust manifolds that cracked within 2000 miles. When we contacted Dorman it turned out that we got manifolds from a bad batch that were made from the wrong material and never recalled. I've also installed one of their fuel line kits that would up being about 6" too long to fit the vehicle properly. They make plenty of good parts, and even I installed some of their control arm bushings yesterday, but I'm always a little skeptical of their parts because I've been burned by them many times over my career. You just have to be careful about what you buy from them and consider how much labor it will take to replace the part if it fails prematurely, sometimes it's just not worth the risk.
@@FordBossMe Every now and again they build housings with integral electronics that you can't even replace their horrible sensors. 1.4 Ecotec thermostat housings for example. OE part allows sensor replacement alone. But, you gotta use what you can get.
Took your advice and ordered OEM Motorcraft brake pads.. Found a really good price at a Ford dealer in Ohio and having shipped to me here in Texas.Dealers in my big metro area wanted a arm & a leg for them..Again thanks for your imput
These engines have a host of issues. Oil consumption, cam lob destruction, lifter collapse, oil system control pack,exhaust stud breaking,oil leaks . Made good money fixing them.
Since I've done two of the three upgrade so far which is AFM deactivation and the updated driver side valve cover I've had not one single issue the vehicle has been running great
My neighbor has a 2015 Yukon with the 5.3 and it's got almost 300000 miles but getting there has been rough for him,,, every known LS issue that you read about he's had at least once.. lol
There is also an oil screen on the block back behind the engine one the drivers side change the and the screen and it helped my oil consumption on my 2010 chevy Silverado 5.3l crew cab v8 with a cold air intake 3 inch catback mbrp exhaust with the dod delete you have that plugs into the obd2 port and I also adjusted my camshaft valves when I changed the valves covers with the updated ones and I also drilled the holes as well I put a 40k transmission cooler on it with 6 an fittings and braided stainless steel lines from the radiator to the transmission had to buy a new transmission adapter to take the an fittings also c he angled the gasket on my oil block above the oil filter because I noticed it was sealing out oil changed it tightened it down fixed that then noticed the bung at the radiator was leaking oil I was gonna update it from stock metal lines to the 10an stainless steel braided with a oil adapter but I changed the bung with a acdelco gm oem one and it fixed the problem and made my oil pressure even better now I don’t even have to add oil or anything inbetween oil changes every 4-5k burns maybe a little bit nothing noticeable and nothing even worth talking about
2007 chevy suburban burning 1qt every 1k. Did all this to my truck. Down to 1/4 of qt every 5k miles. I lost about .5 miles with AFM turned off. I have 280k miles. Good luck 👍
BMW has an inline 6 they use on their top of the line sport tourer mototrcycle with some oil consumption issues. After a lot of research and getting feedback from various owners, the primary culprits for it are top end issues that BMW will deny till they are blue in the face about until you prove it. BMW will even try to say .5 to 1 litre of oil missing every 1500 miles is normal and within specification.
Hey will you Consider doing a PCV fixed Valve Cover for the 4.6L? Idk if they even make them, But on my 2002 F150 4.6L there is absolutely No Baffle Plate in the Valve cover so it literally Sucks tons of Oil into the PCV line even after i replaced the PCV valve i can literally see the Camshaft when i look down the PCV Hole in the Valve Cover, meaning Oil is always flinging up to the PCV.
@@FordBossMe sounds good, i bet your 4.6L town car doesn't have a Baffle in the Valve Cover either, i just dont get why Ford didn't improvise and have a baffle inserted... maybe because they didn't need one when the engine is New.... but when it gets Old with Blow-By it pushes the oil up into the PCV valve......
Robs are you having oil consumption issues? I have an '05 Explorer with the 4.6 V8 and have had no oil loss at all even after 250k miles. Still have the stock valve covers just replaced the intake manifold gaskets that's all.
I do DOD deletes all the time i can honestly say the valve cover and the pressure relief valve in the pan needs to be plugged its the problem mainly followed by the oil rings being plugged up just my 2 cents!

Hello guys, This past weekend replaced the cover but I noticed that I had already the updated cover, my problem is little weird, no cold start smoke, no hight rpm's smoke, but when Im going down a hill just iddling when acelerate back trow bunch of smoke (blue), but after that no smoke. Untill iddle againg for like 10 seconds

Just got another recall on my 2017 Explorer for the rear toe links. They have no parts but want to have it brought in for inspection. What is up with these links? I think they changed them already on another recall.
I have a video on the inspection to and what they're going to do So before they were replacing the toe links in that was it This time Ford has actually said take the bolt out of the toe link Put it back in just the bushing and torque it down and make sure the collar in the bushing isn't bound up and then put a new bolt in The want to make sure technicians were actually jot just replacing the links but checking the pivot bushing also
Cleaning house huh.....yep mr goodwrench said its a dirty job but somebody has to do it. Oh yeah was wondering about the nissan truck...... I heard mention about something having to be done in the oil pan on those GM's but haven't heard much....hmmm.
@@mph5896 But as he said, it isn't 4wd. Removing the cover is the easy part. Cleaning it up properly and resealing takes all the time. If you're being paid to do it, its an 8 hour job.

Now it’s got the typical rough idle...appreciate your channel and hope I can find someone in souther California that’s 1/2 as professional and honest as you🤞trying to save my 95 bronco 302. Engine management (ecu?) issues. Love these shows!

The rocker cover usually takes care of 50% or more of the oil consumption along with the AFM deleat

Oil drain holes plugged 👍🏼also oil control rings stuck clean pistons replaced rings problem solved I have seen this on Toyota engines

Yeah somewhere down the road I'll look into that whenever I get into tearing into the motor.... that's not anytime soon

I have heard of higher mileage LS engines having the oil control ring ports clogged up. Personally I've never seen it.
Chevy has a lot of oil consumption. Sisters Equinox 2.4L major at eating oil. Piston rings i believe are shot.

Yep they were International motor until 2011 when Ford came up with the 6.7L Powerstroke

I burn NO oil on my AFM Tahoes. AFM is turned off with software.
And if your dropping the pan, pull the front cover and put a high volume oil pump in it. I'll keep the lifters quiet at idle. Melling 10296

Deactivate AFM!!! Oil consumption will drop. They make a chip that plugs into obd2. Keep all those cylinders firing🤟
