To clarify, turning right on red in the USA and Canada doesn't mean that you don't have to stop. it's treated like a stop sign. You make a complete stop, and if it's clear to proceed, you can turn right.
Yea what's so hard to understand about that we even have signs that explain it
Correct, even though here in Ontario, a lot of A-holes only do a rolling stop before turning right. Probably the same in the States.
@@terryomalley1974 It happens in the States as well. I am one of those who always stops completely. I don't want a ticket (especially one from a camera).
Here in Massachusetts you don't stop lol even though i do which is why I fucking hate stop signs and right on red lights cause everyone expects you to either blast threw it or roll it and when you don't there is always a potential for a road rage incident.
I have seen signs here in FL that have a red light symbol and below it is "Right turn, yield", so sometimes you don't have to stop lol
I love visiting the UK! People are very kind. I remember the first time I visited I was nervous going into a pub that was crowded and my anxiousness must’ve been noticeable. The patrons and the the employees were so kind and made this Hispanic American from Maryland feel like I belonged. One of my favorite memories!
Proud American here and I LOVE England. I've visited your wonderful country over 20 times.
I’m from the US. I visited England in the late 80’s after graduating from college. I couldn’t believe how great I was treated in a pub. I shared with the locals how my Dad had served in England in WW2 and that he was in D-Day and the battle of the Bulge. They started buying me drinks! I left properly pissed! Love England and the English people.
My friend who are Greek/Americans went to Greece for a vacation and they had the worse service. They told me their luncheon story and it was hilarious. Could be a comedy skit. The only English the Greek servers said were "no can do". What they didn't know was my friends spoke Greek, and they heard every insult they said about them.
At the end, they should have spoke Greek back to them.
I was shocked how much I disliked Athens when I visited. It's not the city, it was the attitude of the people. On the other hand, I loved my experience in the Greek Islands.
@@jlpack62 i know a few families from greece and they are very pompous and sleazy
Last time I was in UK (I visited my sister who has lived in London close to 20 years by now), when I visited a pub I made sure to say "thanks luv" to the lady behind the counter at the pub everytime I went to get another pint. That pub by the way was this really old one, with literally hundreds of years of history, and I really loved the rural style of architecture, low ceiling and the way it looked from the outside. The ale was also just fantastic. They had their own brand there, and it was so good.
Red does mean stop. But, after a person has stopped, and they're going to be turning right. If nobody is coming the person can proceed, because there isn't any crossing traffic involved. Think of it as joining in (merging) on a motorway. Turning right on red is only allowed on some intersections. If it's not allowed, there is a sign, under the stop light, that says NO TURN ON RED.
I want to go to England at some point - all of my ancestry is either from England, Scotland or Ireland and would love to see the countries they're from. I know the most recent British ancestor I have moved from London - would love to around and imagine I"m seeing the same things they saw a hundred or so years ago. Its my understanding there's an area in London with my surname Holloway so I definitely would go there.
There's a womens prison there so behave lol
@@moonramshaw1982 yeah, I've heard of it but I believe it's been closed down
Went to London is 2017 and had the best time! Got tattooed in Camden, got to run all over the city and felt the most free I’ve ever felt. The people were so kind - one lady who could tell I was lost on the bus - stayed with me until I got to the right stop. As an American there were some shocks and cultural differences but honestly it was so fun. Dreaming of the day I can go back!
I loved visiting England! I got to go to a couple smaller villages and Bathe. I thought it was fantastic! The history is amazing.
I am an American and if I could go to the UK tomorrow I would probably go to Manchester. Now I have never been to the UK before, but I have be watching the reactions from Dave, Mike, and Darren (Daz) now and they speak of the north and especially Manchester being a great place to visit. I also watched the reaction they did that was made be Expedia on traveling to Manchester so I have a little knowledge of what to see already. If worse came to worse I would just get on the patreon discord and ask for help if I was in Manchester..
I love Mike being offended as the other boys slag Carling beer. 😆
In Sweden we use to drive on the left side of the road but on September 3, 1967 we switched to right hand traffic. I remember seeing a video of it. They drove on the left then at a certain time everyone was expected to make the switch and cars stopped and then they all drove over to the other side of the road and kept going.
My Gosh..you guys haven't buried that poor woman..thanks
Lol, must have really struck a nerve with Mike insulting that beer and getting him to say fuck off 😅
I took a trip around the UK on 2017 by train and wasn't prepared for how extremely expensive it was. On the train from Edinburgh to Oxford I looked up the flight prices for the same journey and it was nearly the same.
I think his tips are helpful - as you lot know, common sense ain't always common. And what makes sense in one culture may not make obvious sense in another culture. Lots of younger people are traveling and they may not even be paying attention to who's in a pub or what team they're rooting for - and you know how raucous American travelers can be without really trying to be. Might go in any pub just to get drunk and start rooting for some team or making fun of football saying "it's soccer not real football" just playing around not thinking they might be upsetting anyone. I've lived in London for a little while - great place. LOVED IT THERE. I would be still living there now if my employment opportunity had worked out. I interned for The Church of England newspaper while there. Met loads of people - some of who I stay on contact with still. I remember once, Sir Trevor called my flat and left a message for me - we'd discussed meeting up and he was confirming. Anyway, when I got home that evening, my flatmate was just stood there looking at me like the Queen walked in. She played the message from him for me and she must have listened to it like a dozen times! She couldn't believe that Sir Trevor had called her number and left a message for me! lol.
Who cares about the rain? I want to see England more than anywhere else. I want to see every touristy spot in London! I want to see the Tower of London, Big Ben, the cathedrals and the palace. I want to see Hampton Court, and I want to see lots of little villages. I want to see Bath and Rye and Stratford on Avon, and on and on. I love the history and the countryside. I love it all! I don’t care if it rains every damn day I’m there. I just want to get there before I die. ☹️
The thing about crossing the street. I personally look both ways and only cross if no cars are coming in either direction in the time it would take me to fully cross.
But I always see people standing in the middle, either the middle lane which is a left turn lane or on the line. They cross when its clear one way but not the other. These people will look left only then start the cross.
In Kansas we typically have good thunderstorms throughout the summer months. This year was dry but eh. Frequently It will be raining in my backyard but not my front yard.
I just happen to visit during a heatwave and thus really bummed all my cute fall clothes were not an option lol I refused to take any train as I just didn’t want to deal with it so I stayed somewhere that was 20 mins to many of where I wanted to go so I can walk or uber. He ain’t lying about people almost getting ran over; I saw that a bit. Unfortunately many Americans jaywalk and have forgotten that cars aren’t coming from the way they expect. A kid almost got hit next to me cause of that. Some streets are odd too which makes the left side rule at first disorienting to follow. But seriously there is a light that tells you when to walk! Lol
I’ve got a June trip planned for 2 weeks cause one wasn’t enough. I’m surprised he didn’t mention the time difference. That was hard to adjust too cause I feel the sun woke earlier than I expected and night felt like a breeze. Your high ass toilets made me feel like I was in a high chair.
Sidenote: there’s too much batter on the fish so if you’re black getting it in London ain’t it. You gotta go far away from the city for good fish and chips
I only spent a day in London. Most of the time in great Yarmouth on the coast. then we spent some time in the Midlands. don't ask me the name of the town or village that we were in I forget. we traveled quite a bit so obviously we had to drive through all the beautiful villages and the gorgeous countryside. I can't wait to go back hopefully.
I am Canadian and I disagree with him that English beer isnt any good. Sure, the big macro companies like Carling(Canadian beer btw - Not English. Its a standard cheap lager). isnt very good but what about Englands craft beers that are exported to N. America? Hobgoblin, Samuel Smiths, New Castle Brown Ale, Youngs Stout, Olde Speckled Hen Ale, St. Alberts...and these are kind of "mainstream" craft beers mind you. I am sure there are even more "niche", higher quality beers in the big cities and even villages. England gave us Stouts, Porters and Ales. They are beer heavyweights and if I were a tourist in England I would definitely be hitting up some of the higher rated craft breweries for a few pints.
If I had the means I'd love to explore more of the UK. I've only had the opportunity to visit just London and I loved it . Watching your guys videos has really made me want to visit Manchester but f I ever do get the chance to fly across the pond again top of my list is having a pint at the Guinness Brewery in Dublin. Love your guys videos, it's been a daily ritual of mine for months.
I've only ever been to London and it did rain several days both times I was there. I want to visit Scotland at some point. People were pretty nice the food was ok.
The origin of driving on the left in Britain comes from medieval days, when two riders approaching each other would pass by the left to keep the right (sword) arm free for defending if necessary. This was common practice throughout Europe.
In America, and later Revolutionary France, you would drive on the right because wagon drivers would normally sit on the left side of the seat for more leverage on the reins, and in crowded streets it was better keep a closer eye on the traffic going past you than on where the curb or ditch was. When Napoleon conquered most of Europe, driving on the right became the law in the areas under French occupation--Germany, Spain, Italy. Those countries not under the French usually kept driving on the left, but as German and French commercial influence increased these countries eventually switched over to driving on the right as well. Canada drove on the right because of American trade.
Going to a proper British pub has been my dream for awhile.
December 13, 1931, New York City, USA: Winston Churchill steps from a cab, looks right, and gets hit by a car going 30 mph. Broken nose, two cracked ribs, and tells the cops it was his fault for looking right instead of left.
I’m sure there is no truth to this but I heard driving on the left side of the road originated from jousting back in the day.
Maybe it had something to do with the early history of automobiles being mass produced in America which probably encouraged the majority of the world to drive on the right side today.
Turning right on red in the U.S. depends on what county or city you are in...for example in NYC they have long had a rule that you can NOT turn right on red anywhere..but in other counties like where I live you can BUT if there is a sign that says "no turn on red" then you can not turn. Apparently you can also turn left on red as long as it's a one way street..but once again it depends on the laws of that county or city, or if there is a sign that says "no turn on red"
About the not cheering for the other team. In America generally its not a problem to go into a bar/restaurant in the opposing teams city and cheer for the other team. I've never had any problems and there's no violence.
Carling was founded in 1840 in Canada. It’s as English as Owen Hargreaves
I haven't yet been to the UK, and I'd like to sometime. I'm not a big city fan, so I want to explore the smaller towns from Cornwall up to Scotland. BUT...there are a couple things I'm not looking forward to. First, being 6'7", I'm rather tall. From what I've seen on British TV, a lot of the older buildings in these small towns are not built for tall people. So I imagine there will be a certain amount of ducking. Second thing is the narrow country roads. It looks like a lot of them are wide enough for only one car. That CAN happen in the US, but usually there are a lot of places one can pull over to the side. But I see on British TV these narrow roads with a rock wall on one side and a thick hedge on the other, and someone's going to have to back up half a mile. I still look forward to it though.
I can almost fly to England for what it costs Daz to ride a train to a football game.
I like the idea of Daz on a train losing his mind about place names😂
Right on red makes sense because it's something you can do quickly and the right turn only impacts one traffic lane. Obviously traffic with the green light still has the right of way, you have to defer to those vehicles.
Turning left on red is not allowed because you're crossing multiple traffic lanes, you have to remember that traffic in the oncoming lane also has the option to turn right on red and a left turn always deferrs to a right turn even on a green light. It's just much more dangerous to allow turning left on red.
Cities do have signs on certain intersections that will let drivers know that turning right on red is not allowed at that intersection. I imagine that metropolitan areas also would prohibit right on red due to heavy traffic. Right on red is more common in suburban areas and smaller towns.
There’s too many idiots on the road to excuse going through an intersection on a red light
Daz is correct though, at least in Michigan, you can turn left of a one way street.
The reason we drive on the right, goes back to horse and carriage days. The drivers (when driving was on the left) were colliding heads, quite frequently. Sounds fake, but it is true.
I was there for 2 weeks back in 2009 and I absolutely loved it!!!! My dream is to come back some day. I'm from the US✌️♥️
You should check out the video "Why do the British drive on the left?" It covers the history and other countries too.
of course the trains take you everywhere, it's an effing island that's only a blip in the sea, it's not like the trains are traveling anywhere that's over a 100 miles away.
I've driven in both Australia and New Zealand and driving on the left side of the road isn't that big of a deal because you are sitting on the right side of the car. Driving in the Cayman Islands was a different story. They have American and Canadian sourced cars. You drive on the left side of the road but also sit on the left side of the car while driving.
The thing that is hard to get used to driving in New Zealand or Australia is using turn signals. The first several times you attempt to use the turn signal, you end up turning on the windshield wipers.
If I could snap my fingers and make sure our service workers had a flat (living) wage, I would. No one supports the concept of tipping for subsistence except businesses who have been getting away with their scam for decades. Also, almost nowhere in the US will give you a frosted mug. Not sure I've really seen that.
4 seasons in one day...sounds like Cape Town weather
Your stores need restrooms and water fountains
Walter used to have his hair in a ponytail, I believe. Beer in England, even Europe, is far superior to any beer made in the US.
Red does mean stop. You have to come to a complete stop before you can turn right on a red. You can't turn left on a red because you are crossing the traffic lane. Turning right you are merging into a lane. That's the difference.
He is right though. If I do drink beer it's usually a Guiness or Blue Moon.
English weather is just like western Washington. Except we don’t get frequent thunder and lightning
Paraphrase: "Every American is trained thinking English people act like Downton Abbey"
Average American: "ummmm.....no"
😆😆😆😆🤣🤣
hope y'all react to popo medic SAS guy in nairobi kenya
There are videos about why the world switched driving sides on the road.
Look right.....words to live by
So the beginning of October, will there be a need for a DaveK Hunt? I follow another channel on here, "2 neighbours", two guys out of Canada.. they only have 30K+ subscribers, and they did live stream at 20K and then another last weekend for 30K. Dave you can do anytime, just do not have music playing that will get you shut down.
Funny enough, driving on the left is the vast minority globally. Most countries drive on the right.
I mean, the vast majority of the world drives on the right, not just America. It's basically only the UK and ex colonies plus Japan. Everyone else drives on the right.
yeah I think you need 1000 subs to be able to do certain things of CZcams.
This guys videos are good but it's sad when u remember this dudes by himself on vacation shooting videos.
Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc 👌🌾 🍊🍻
I wish I could move my family over to England. Is it easy for Americans to move there and become English?
In Britain you need sun cream and wind smear.
If it wasn't the accent that gives it away that this guy is from the States, I'd say he looks like a typical Brit.
I think everyone should move to the right side of the right, since its the right side to begin with and 70% of the world is already on it.
Dave is going to hike? That will be a sexless weekend.
Nah, I'd think I'd land in Cardiff and explore all the up to Snowdonia. Why the hell would want to land in London or a mini New York screw that.
US might be the odd one out with Imperial measurements, but you guys are the odd ones out with the driving on the left. Its objectively more dangerous like statistically.
A lot do the world does it.
@@BP-or2iu yea, a lot drive on the right
@@BP-or2iu 30% left countries because they are ex empire. Not because it's a good idea. Europe doesn't follow for a reason. Even China got the idea and is righty besides the old Hong Kong colony+
Soccer games are only 30? Holy cow. You have to be rich to buy NFL tickets.
Only for traveling away fans. They are capped. Tickets for home games range from £45 - £1000 plus.
330 for the train? What is that like a couple hundred miles? I can’t believe a train anywhere in the UK would cost more than 100. That’s wild. It’s so tiny.
Yes, the service in the UK is better than the rest of Europe but it’s still terrible. At least in terms of the shops and stuff. Really bad. It’s just so terrible on the continent that the UK seems way better.
$300 for a train to an arsenal game? It cost less than that to take a plane to Vegas
Right....a train ticket from NY to CA is also $300 and that's across the entire US one coast to the other.
Link to ya other channels?
This were eight year ago
in my humble opinion; American don't really enjoy the taste of beer. maybe that explains " Bud, millers & Coors" If you Chill beer enough, it has no taste.
One problem with England - too many English people
REACT TO MICHIGAN 2% TO 2#
Okay, that’s not true about the Downton Abbey thing. Americans are aware that English people are just people, for Pete’s sake. That’s a ridiculous stereotype of both Americans and the English.
To say uk doesnt do good beer is nonsense we have the best craft beer in Europe and cask beer when done properly is unmatched in quality. I mean seriously... bloody kronenbourg come on now!
I mean even just Manchester, Track and Cloudwater are world famous craft breweries you guys should know them surely
5 things i hate about England...🤔....: no guns, no A/C, Dave, Daz, Mike......i think im thinking about another cointry....hungover
Y'all need to drive. Freedom!!
No freedom anywhere anymore, but at least we have a semblance of it here in the U.S.
Thank you for the reaction. I'm a black American and want to take my elderly mom to experience England outside of London before she gets too old. I have travelled a lot of Europe but I'm worried about what her perception may be. Will I be harassed or treated badly in the more rural parts?
Why would you be?
Not at all. You’ll love it. The both of you will.
Carling was founded in 1840 in Canada. It’s as English as Owen Hargreaves
You can keep both 😂
