overnight offshore fishing for bluefin tuna south island west coast New Zealand - bluenose, sharks

- Weka, Mike and Josh head off the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand to catch a northern pacific Bluefin Tuna, when we get out top the Hokitika Trench we discover the Hoki COmmercial trawlers have left the area due to low fish numbers. This area is a spawning ground for Hoki and the fishery has been decimated from overfishing. The trawlers have now gone to the east coast of the south island to the juvenile Hoki fishery to attempt ti fill their quota. We dont catch any tuna but end up with a few tablefish caught over the foul ground where the trawlers cant trawl.

Seems we have a winner for peeling them fresh eggs. Baking soda when boiling, then drop in cold water. When peeling crack and roll gently and drop in cold water for a few seconds. Then finish peeling. Maybe...

Lol, I put my 10c on boil the eggs what every long you like. I like 5 mins after boil so still bit soft touch inside yoke. And then straight into pot of cold water for 40-50 second. Out you go. Works most of the times for me with a nice easy peel. Give it a go m8.

Yeah all us hoki boats left the west coast at the end of October we when to the Campbell Islands but when we were on the west coast we catch 2 south blue tuna on the rods

easiest way josh is make shore your water is boiling drop ya eggs in then pour about half cup of white vinegar over them and boil for 4min then cold water running over eggs while you peel eggs and they will peel like a peer of nickers off a striper lol if that doesn't work then you's boy's are bloody harden southland west coasters with teeth still lol chrchr

Roll the egg under the palm of your hand on the bench first so that the egg shell cracks all around then peel. Of course peeling under cold water asap works well.

Make sure the water is boiling before adding the eggs in. Usually works a treat..
new eggs never peel well. use older ones and you won't have a problem. going to be hard too launch that nice boat from the coast river mouths. throw those electric reels overboard haha. keep up the great vids

the trick is to, have you eggs wet and wet fingers when you peel them. works like a charm
Get a teaspoon inside the egg and scoop it.... like ya shucking an oyster.. works every time as long as you get through that skin layer

So bloody awesome, quiet and economical and super reliable. I forgot to put the petrol cap on, backed down on a big fish, filled the main tank up with saltwater while we were 80 km out at sea. The 'water in fuel' alarm came on and it started beeping really loudly. We headed for home and it got us safely accross the bar without skipping a beat. Doesnt get much more reliable than that I reckon. We also dropped the boat off the trailer twice, ran over a rock, hit 2 big logs and the engine has barely a scratch on it. Unreal

You're getting seasick after dark because you can't see the horizon. Your brain has no external reference to judge what's level so it can't override your inner ear...

Makes me absolutely fucking sick we have Russian trawlers allowed to be in our waters To fish. all commercial fishing should be ban if you want fish for tea we should catch our own.. those Russian ships can sit out at water for 3 to 4 months. Processes and packing freezing while they fish
