  • Fifty years after the show aired, Star Trek’s fictional tricorder is far from becoming a reality. But a $10 million prize from the XPRIZE Foundation is hoping to motivate inventors to create one quickly.

We already have the precursor to the tricorder. It's called a cell phone. I've often thought they need to give IR capability in the cameras and that there needs to be a geiger counter built in as well. Maybe electromagnetic scanner. Should all be Incorporated into the next cell phones...

Wish the AO Scan Mobile could have been entered in this competition! It is truly amazing - scanning, optimizing, full reports on the body, specific frequency programs directed at specific issues, and even "Balancing Harmonic" songs. Feels like using a tricorder to me!

The clicking things on your chest and in your ear seemed to take away from it's original ability to scan without physical contact. I suppose a passive form of radiation which radiates through one's body and allows the Tricorder to measure it in someway giving us vital reading is needed. And that does still seem very far away, if it's even possible at all.

Its 2020 and closer than you think. Thermonuclear that dont need to touch your skin. That device you put on your finger that tells you your heartrate and oxygen level in your blood. Two separate devices. But those two alone ate a start.

The most exciting time to be alive was the 20th of July 1969, everything since then has just been a sequel. You know one small step etc.
