I m 22 just found hearing loss. Since the day I have started putting hearing aids I really felt confident while doing conversation because I can hear what other person is saying and it really motivates you in group conversation.
"often feel like people are mumbling" made me LOL because... story of my life... I got tested at a hearing specialist and it turns out i have light to moderate hearing loss. Which honestly is not a surprise since... like I said, story of my life. I now get to test a standard device for a week, to see how it goes! It such a weird feeling, because I have no idea how it can improve or change my life. I've just always had lower than average hearing (runs in the family). I'm also scared that once I get tested by a doctor, they won't give me a prescription so that health insurance can cover the cost for hearing aids. Ahh I'm so new to all of this. I'm glad you got it tested! Treating hearing loss is expensive but it is priceless and so worth it. Know that hearing devices take time to get used to. You'll go from your current hearing levels to feeling like you hear EVERYTHING. It can be overwhelming. Just know that is normal. Express your concerns to have the devices programmed to your needs and preferences and be patient during the adjustment period. It takes 3 weeks to 3 months to get used to hearing aids.

I appreciated this so much! I have mild to moderate hearing loss which I found out 4 years ago. I didn’t believe it; I was only in my 40s. Then COVID happened and everyone had to wear masks. That’s when I realized I must have carried on a lot of conversations by reading lips. I just went for my hearing aid consult today and will get them in 2 weeks.
i never thought i might’ve had hearing loss until i realized that i would read peoples lips to be able to hear them. now with mask i can’t do that and in busy places i can barely hear what people say, it’s always been like that but reading their lips helped. i have to turn up the tv louder and my mom yells at me that it’s way to loud but any lower i can’t hear it😂
So thankful for your channel. I was diagnosed with mild to moderate hearing loss. Still have 100% on speech processing, so thankful for that. Going to be getting hearing aids this week. Hoping I can adjust to them so that I can feel more confident in social situations and enjoy sounds that I have been missing.

I have hearing aids and I never wear them. I work in finance so I thought id get a pair to hear my clients. This past Friday I was having a conversation with someone behind a partition and I couldn't hear not one word... This is a regular thing. I pretend like I hear the person but I can't ... Friday it got to the point where I needed to walk around. I said, I need to walk around because I can't hear anything.. i have tinnitus too but amazingly I love it.. it never bothers me .... it make me unique and I embraced it...
Yes, there is a difference between hearing and understanding. Hearing aids can make sound louder but understanding is still a tough ball game. That is good you found something that works for you. I've never met anyone who has told me they like their tinnitus. Please, tell me about that! What do you like about it?

This video has been helpful to me to understand my level of loss. I went to an audiologist, ordered hearing aids and will have them fitted in a few weeks. I have the chart she prepared but she didn't explain the level of loss as I see in your chart in this video. My low number is around 60 so it's moderate. I look forward to getting them and seeing what I've been missing. I'm 74 so it's no surprise. Maybe after I get used to them I'll come back to this video or another one of yours with comments "from a newbie".
Problem with soft consonants and hear poorly under 40db. This sounds like what I have. I saw the audiologist, and I am going to get hearing aids next week. I always have to ask people to repeat themselves, I go into a shell sometimes to avoid that. It's been something I've been conscious of for a few years and now I had to do something about it. Hiya! Hope you’re having a good day/night! I came across this video and I just wanted to say thank you so much for this video. A little over a year ago I started to realise that I couldn’t hear properly in crowds and school. I was able to hear pretty much everything but at school I really struggled understanding my teachers or my friends, this was because it was always loud and crowded. My family started realising it as well saying that I was always asking them to repeat themselves or always saying pardon. I ignored it for some time but it just felt like it was getting worse and my teachers at school would get annoyed at me because they thought I wasn’t listening. So I went to an audiologist and booked a hearing test. This showed that I had low frequency mild to moderate hearing loss. I then got hearing aids to help make noises clearer, and they helped me so much. I’ve had them for over a year now and I have no regrets. However I never really told anyone about them because I felt my hearing loss wasn’t valid as it wasn’t prominent. I just wanted to say thank you for this video and explaining what it’s really like. You demonstrated it so well and told people what it’s like living with mild hearing loss. Thank you, I really appreciate it.
I am so happy to hear you've had the opportunity to get hearing aids. Hearing aids are funny little things. They solve the first problem of not being able to hear but then seem to bring new unexpected problems with regards to validation like you mentioned. I'm getting tested next week. I have such a hard time hearing those soft consonants as you mentioned and especially can't hear in social situations like restaurants etc. I took a few different online tests and the results were inconsistent saying anywhere from 15db loss to 50 db loss, well, guess we'll find out. I had a hearing test about 6 years ago, the doc said, "it's just a confidence thing"...right yeah, my whole life have been exposed to loud noise, pianos, concerts, gunshots, construction work, tools etc. I used an amplifier last year and could hear so well. Makes me wonder what a real device would be like. Thanks for the great video.
Authentic hearing aids are pricey but worth every penny! In the US there are 30 day free, no obligation trials so call and audiologist and just try some out! I think you'll find they help a ton. Especially if the amplifier helped.
@@DefiniteHearing To hold me off I just purchased some air pod pro and followed instructions I found on CZcams to set them up like hearing aids. I am (was) skeptical if hearing aids will do anything to be honest. I just got back inside… I never knew how much sounds was out there. Birds and I think bugs (strange noises) like a jungle or something. Never knew grass made a sound when I walked through it before. Cried a bit. Mosquitoes started eating me up so I came inside. Fans, air conditioners, walking… lots of noises. I can only imagine what it would be like if I get real hearing aids. The ringing is still there though 😞
@@DefiniteHearing I will have to get hearing aids sooner or later. If things get worse, I will try to learn sign language. Some signs I may not be able to make though. But that’s another issue 😝
Thank you for the reassurance. I'm currently testing out hearing aids for my mild to moderately severe high frequency loss, and the improvements have been so subtle that I've had a hard time deciding whether I actually "need" them. I'm only into the 2nd week of my trial, so hope I continue to find some benefit -- even if it is subtle. (30 dB @4000 dipping to 60 dB @8000)
Most audiologist don't like to suggest hearing aid for mild loss but I found it makes a big difference as there are more n more hearing aids for mild loss
Same here for me I have 30db loss in 250 hz and 500hz in right ear only. I consulted several audiologist they said no need of hearing aids now but I have sharp hearing in my right ear and difficulty in understanding words little distance away from right and very sharp when near. I feel difference in hearing both ear. My brain always compare my right and left hearing
I am 26 and am suffering from hearing loss. When I got the diagnosis, it was as if my world fell apart and I couldn't belive that I am facing this issue at such a young age. Also my doctor told me that sensoneural hearing loss is progressive and could get worse as we age. I was wondering what steps we can take to delay the progression as much as possible.
Yes, a diagnosis can be life changing. And yes, a sensorineural loss can progress. Unfortunately, the reality is our hearing loss will naturally digress as we age regardless of how our loss from the sensorineural loss progresses. I recommend taking advantage of the hearing you do have by using it. Get high quality hearing devices that help you hear sounds you other wise can’t but that don’t raise volume on sounds you don’t need (protect your hearing in that aspect). We live in such an amazing day and age where we can hear well with technology. Love and use it!
My mom thinks I need hearing aids cause I can hear her when it's quiet but she has to repeat herself 24/7 when it's not quiet. I also notice that my hearing cuts out into silence when people are talking, or my ears ring.
Good video!! Yes, you need help to be able to hear those sounds. Otherwise you will be filling in the blanks in sentences. Ex: I went to Hallmark store and brought a _______. Would that be car or card? That’s a lot of thinking and it gets tiring. Plus, dementia runs in my family I’m fighting it off as best as I can.
I was diagnosed with mild asymmetric sensorineural hearing loss and life is very frustrating. I am in my mid 30s and have dealt with a slow decline over the last 10+ years. I have been to an audiologist and ENT. I was told hearing aids wouldn’t help me, however when I use sound amplifiers while watching TV they help me so much! I just do not understand why hearing aids wouldn’t do the same thing for me. Enjoyed your video!
Did they say why hearing aids wouldn't help? They sound like they would! I'd get another opinion from a different audiologist. I'm sorry you're dealing with this frustrating hearing loss!
Basically the ENT told me that my issue is not so much hearing but being able to understand and certain consonance drop off and hearing aids wouldn’t help that. In my right ear The hair follicles in my cochlea are damaged and they don’t know why. I have hearing loss in the higher frequencies. It’s hard for me to understand when people talk to me and they are turned away from me, my tv and music volume are always “too loud” for others when to me it sounds normal, and if someone has an accent I might as well forget it. Don’t get me wrong I love accents, but they make it so much harder for me to understand what people are saying.
Also the audiologist told me that it was really up to me if I felt like I needed the hearing aids which I feel like they would really help me, but I’m not a doctor so if the ENT thinks they won’t help then I don’t want to spend a bunch of money.
I have that same sort of hearing loss and hearing aids help so so much. Sadly, hearing standards of care are lower than others. An eye doctor would never not recommend glasses if they'd help a person but for some reason hearing ENT doctors do that same thing. People are SO strange. My guess is they're hearing and they assume we are better off living without something they have... It makes no sense to me.
I have my yearly hearing evaluation this year in September, so we will see what happens. I doubt anything has changed with my hearing but I will be seeing a different audiologist this time. I’m going to get her opinion because I really feel like I need help. I’m more open to hearing aids now than I used to be because my family and I have gotten so frustrated with how hard it is to communicate. Thanks for listening and caring!
@@DefiniteHearing day 1 has been a little tinny sounding and feels a bit itchy in my ear 😅but I’ll get used to it! Definitely noticed a difference after taking them out for bed :))

Good video. Mild hearing loss in low freq, dropping to moderate at 2k, and Mod Severe 4-8k. I've been putting this off for so long. I mean pretty much in denial. I did ASL in College as my language, and assumed that I was almost faking needing them when I saw what true Hard of Hearing people go through. Made a bunch of friends in that class, probably should have just asked, but embarrassed. Although since then its gotten worse, and I spend a stupid amount of time, especially in say a checkout line with Women (voice closer to my hearing loss) with high pitched voices telling me things. I keep asking asking "what" "one more time" and then the dreaded putting my ear up close and asking "no seriously sorry, just one more time" only to find they were just saying have a good day. Its super embarrassing. It doesn't cause issues... Until it does I guess. It even showed in this video with your soft consonants. All of them just sounded like "sh" I think it may be time for me to take the plunge and get some hearing aids. Autologist says im on the fence, but I *will* need them eventually and that somehow if I dont get them it will start screwing with my ability to hear words cause it changes how your brain works. Dunno
Everything you’re saying is in line with a hearing loss and I think hearing aids could really help you. Just try some for the 30 day no obligation trial. Don’t skimp on quality, get a great pair you love. Also, might I mention, Bluetooth sound through hearing aids are AMAZING. You might wish you got them sooner.
@@DefiniteHearing Just got them a couple days ago. Can't take them off because now everything feels muffled if I do (I like the new clarity). I'm loving them. but man are they Itchy/uncomfortable sometimes. Phillps 9040 RITE hearing aids. Also my partner noticed that I am speaking more softly (Be speaking lound was an issue before), and haven't said "what...?" since I got them Do they get physically more comfortable over time? Its not unbearable, but its annoying when I notice it. EDIT: And the consonants in the video... I can hear them now!
Thank you, I have my hearing aid on order, and I am new to this. I am at about 40 Db on the 2000 to 4000 Hz range and 30 Db on the 1000 Hz range. Everything outside of these frequencies is around 1 Db. I look forward to learning more from you :) ♥

@@ryanmichaelhaley I use the ReSound Enzo 3D aids. I believe that it is TOTALLY possible to overpay for hearing aids (off-brand amplifiers from a distributor). That said, I also believe it is completely worth it to save up and get a sturdy, solid pair of hearing aids. I HIGHLY recommend visiting an audiologist, have them map your hearing and recommend a hearing aid. Make sure it is one of the "Big 6" brands and shop around for the best price.
I got them because I work with children (have more trouble at the high pitch, softer voice of small humans). I also struggle to hear in noisy places, or when people aren’t facing me. I found myself asked people to repeat things. Sure wish health insurance would help pay. Aids are expensive.
I can relate! I agree, it would be nice and make sense if medical insurance helped pay for hearing aids. If you haven't already, contact your state Vocational Rehabilitation services and see if they can help cover hearing devices for you.

Now I’m 19 and in my second year of university and considering a hearing aid so I can better hear in lectures, in the studio, and when spending time with my friends. How did you navigate feeling like the only one your age with hearing aids (if you did feel that way)? What do I do if I want to listen to music with earbuds? Do hearing aids have that capability? What about noise cancelling? Do you think people ever mistake those earbud-esque hearing aids for actual earbuds? I worry because of exams and whether or not people think I’m being rude by not removing them while we’re talking. I don’t really want to have to explain myself all the time
My sister has hearing aids so I was blessed to have her in not feeling totally alone. I also had a best friend with a hearing loss. She was another huge blessing. To answer your questions: it is totally normal to feel on the outs when you’ve got a hearing loss. Do what you can to aid it as best as you can. Go see a reputable audiologist and get quality hearing aids. (Google your state and vocational rehabilitation, as a student they may be able to help you purchase hearing aids and/or pay for tuition. They did for me.) I say for the reasons you mentioned, pass on the earbud look. They aren’t a long term solution.
I just got diagnosed with Meniers Disease a week and a half ago , I had a 40 on my audio gram and I go back next month to get hearing tested again. Honestly I’ve had hearing issues for about 3 years and ringing so I’m hoping I qualify for hearing aids to help mask the ringing and to help me hear again.
I been having issues understanding people for a long time. I can hear most of what people say but only if they speak somewhat loud. If they don't I'll hear mumbling and missing words in a sentence. If I don't get this taken care of I be able to finish learning foreign languages. Or just have a normal conversation with my coworkers.
Trying to find a job as a fresher but as a moderate hearing loss person, I don’t have confidence to face the interviewers and worried that i might not hear what they are saying properly.
Do you have hearing aids? They will help you. Also, are you in the US? If so, Google your state and Vocational Rehabilitation. VR helps people like us find jobs.
Thank you very much for this video. I just found out I need hearing aids, but the audiologist didnt explain too much to me. I am getting a second opinion tomorrow so I can get a better understanding, but I know I have mild hearing loss and that I do in fact need hearing aids. I have to admit this has all been pretty scary to know that at the age of 34 my hearing is declining so much. Any recommendations on trying to keep a positive mind set as I start this journey? My head tends to worry about things I may have to face in the future.
A second opinion from another audiologist is wise to get! Yes, it can be scary. Change is uncomfortable. That said, hearing loss is like a broken leg - it is best to treat sooner rather than later! I was told I have a mild hearing loss in both ears and that’s not true I can hear birds chirping from a distance and close to me through my window not sure what you meant by saying can’t hear birds chirping but I can hear
Idk I feel like I can hear birds and such? But I cant hear in noisy environments and I have difficulty understanding especially children and some women. If someone speaks softly its like they’re mumbling. If theres music in the background its sk hard. People need to speak loudly and clearly for me to understand. Hearing on the phone can be challenging. I often turn my volume all the way up on phone and I need to use captions. I worked for many years in a noisy environment and have had chronic ear infections as a kid
Hearing loss is tricky because you can hear at some pitches but have a loss at others. Hence you can hear birds but not voices. I recommend getting an audio gram to understand what pitches and volumes you can hear.

Thank you for asking your question! I will add this to my video list. Videos take time to produce so here is a quick answer: Hearing aids and speech therapy helped immensely. They enabled me to hear and follow along. Understanding is what was difficult so I benefitted from kind teachers that would write important things on the whiteboard and face me when they spoke. (I have a tips for teachers of deaf and hard of hearing children video - check it out!) I used school provided services like an FM microphone to help increase the volume of the teacher's voice too. Hearing aid fittings, especially hearing tests and sound mappings, were uncomfortable but important so my hearing aids could sound as good as possible. With a hearing loss, at times I felt dumb (when I responded incorrectly because I didn't hear something) and different from everyone else. That was difficult. I found the best way to combat that is to laugh off of the mistakes, to fill time with hobbies I enjoy, and socialize with others my age. I hope this helps!

Advice anyone? I am annoyed that I don’t hear everything people are saying, but I am still very unsure if I could have hearing loss. Because I took a test online which said I have good hearing. Maybe I am just more curious of what people are saying even in places it’s hard for anyone to hear… I know I hear slightly worse than my classmates because in loud environments I don’t hear as good and can’t keep up while others seem to do better. But you should only search help if it bothers you, and I just have trouble in loud environments and if someone talks quietly. Also I wish I could hear people that are further away and not talking directly to me, because then it’s easier to get into the conversation, but maybe I have good hearing just wishing to hear more... For example I took a eye sight test because I suspected it wasn’t good but it turned out I had good eyes…
My advice: go get an audiogram, a real hearing test, from an Audiologist. An online hearing test is like taking an online personality test. The computer doesn't know your personality like a human and certainly won't test your hearing properly.
Also she said I was born with sensorineural hearing loss I never really noticed it i just thought it was always normal to say huh or what did you say because I thought if it’s mild that most people have mild sensorineural hearing loss I just thought that was always normal to me for someone not to hear certain things it never bothered me
Hi, I've been to a ENT some days ago and he did a hearing test. The result of it: I have a mild hearing loss on one ear (30db) and I'm close to a mild hearing loss on my other ear (20db), both in the mid frequencies. The ENT told me that so far there's nothing I could do about it. Would you recommend me to get a second oppinion by an audioligist? In your video it sound's like a hearing aid might already help me and that an audioligist is the real professional for any kind of hearing loss. I do have issues understanding other people, I feel like it's just getting worse and worse and I hoped the ENT would suggest a hearing aid.
That ENT is off base. Yes, you may not be able to fix the hearing loss but you can possibly get hearing devices that will help. Yes. Follow your gut and get a second opinion from an audiologist. Like vision loss, any degree of hearing loss deserves to have the option to be treated.
There are many types of hearing loss and you may have a low frequency or cookie bite hearing loss. This would mean you’re unable to hear speech range pitches and would explain why you can still hear birds chirping. I recommend visiting an audiologist and having them do an audiogram to objectively map your hearing.

I have a serious question 🥺. I am having a mild hearing loss. Since its just a hearing loss but its an awkward moment for others to experience this from me. Some of them laughed at me and some made me comfortable but some made me embarrassing at. Even though i was suggested by a one person in seimens company. He suggested me an expensive hearing aid price in a very taunted and like making fun of me that had lose my confidence in myself for this. I just want don't remember what my range was but i only remember that it was mild and i was suggested a hearing aid. What should I do i mean what if I put on hearing aid would that help me out to recover my hearing loss as its by birth.

Please help me.. was born deaf and at really young age had a surgery which left me my right ear working 75% and my left ear is gone... Doctors tried to put hearing aids but it was too loud for me. Kind of weird from me. Haven’t been back since, is there anything new I could try?
Hearing aid volumes can be reduced. I recommend that you try it again and have them turn the volume down. It takes 3-6 weeks to get used to hearing aids, and even then it can still hard to understand what people are saying.
In my line of work, we do occupational hearing tests on a fit and healthy population. It have noticed that most of the younger people range between 5db to -5 db. Does the threshold for mild hearing loss need to be reviewed?
I’m not a medical expert so I won’t say. That said, I definitely think all people should be screened for hearing loss. Many people don’t realize they have hearing loss.
It can. Mine has remained pretty consistent. To decrease your chances of your hearing loss worsening, I recommend using hearing protection in loud environments.
i have good ears, wondering what would happen if i wore a hearing aid? would it amplify sound? would it have any negative effect to my ears? would nothing happen?
With good ears, hearing aids certainly amplify the sound and can hurt your ears. My husband and dad have tried wearing my hearing aids for a second - they REALLY disliked it. They couldn't believe how loud it was haha.
i have minimal hearing loss in left ear 250-500 @20dbHL 1k @ 30dbHL 2k-4k @25dbHL 6k-8k @20-10dbHL I hear mostly everything, with no difficulty at all but my right ear has mild to moderate hearing loss dipping upto 60dbHL at 2k Hz So can I wear hearing aids in just the right ear?, my ent told me to wear in both but these things are quite expensive and if I have a near perfect hearing in one ear, I really see no use in wearing it in the other ear.
You have a mild-moderate loss in the left and moderate in the right. You should certainly get hearing aids for both ears. You don't know what you don't hear.
Hello dr, My right ear diagnosed with 30 db loss in 250hz and 25 db in 500 rest all frequencies are normal. I had sudden hearing loss last month then it was 50 db in above frequencies now it has come up to 30db. I feel spoken words are sharper in right ear since left is normal. Do I need hearing aid audiologist says no need of aids now. But I have difficulty in communication and due to social stigma I ahve double thinking about hearing aids too, I am only 32 yrs old.
I don’t have experience with CICs as my loss is moderate to severe. So wither should work. They will feel very different, so test them both out to figure out what you like.
It depends on how old they are. If they are older than three, their ability to hear can be greatly improved but their ability to speak will still suffer as the critical speech and language development windows have closed.

I have mild to moderate hearing loss.. but m not sure how it will impact to people around me, how my family/colleague will react.. cause I haven't revealed that to anyone yet.. also how its gonna affect in my work environment.. whether they will feel uncomfortable to give me more responsibilities..

So do I have hearing loss when ever I lay down I can’t hear but when I pull my ears I can hear better and sometimes when I turn my head my ear suddenly feels blocked for no reason. I have moved in higher in the mountains but it’s been a year and I still hear this stuff please respond pls.
It sounds like you might have an ear pressure/balance issue. I recommend visiting an audiologist. They will run tests to give you a personalized answer and proper treatment recommendation.
It depends on how old they are. If they are older than three, their ability to hear can be greatly improved but their ability to speak will still suffer.
my left ear is completely damaged and in my right ear db in its highest is around 30-40 . i have a little bit of a problem in hearing in class or when there are any background sounds like fan etc do i need an hearing aid
This makes me feel better about considering hearing aids even though i passed my hearing test. I have low normal levels. However it really affects my life. I dont want to feel like a fraud but i think otc hearing aids could really help. Any thoughts on bossa?
You’re not a fraud. Help yourself, listen to your gut and try some OTC hearing aids. Take advantage of the free trial periods. I recommend only trying those you can afford to keep.
You can buy her anything with out a Doctor's help. That said, what you buy will not properly help her. In order to properly help your wife, I recommend setting an appointment with an audiologist for a hearing mapping or audiogram. They will measure your wife's hearing aid and recommend the best device for her ears.
I recently found moderately severe SNHL in right ear. And my left ear is perfectly fine. Do you think i should take hearing aids. And what are the treatment options for one ear impaired.
Hi! My right ear is my "bad ear," too! I'm not a medical expert or doctor but from my personal experience of wearing hearing aids, I highly recommend wearing a hearing aid in the your right ear! Be sure to get the Bluetooth hearing aids - they make music and audio on a smart device sound AMAZING!
Are u using hearing aid? How u are managing with single ear hearing. I have mild loss in right but feel difficult to manage. Ppl say it will get adjusted. But have problem in double hearing right side hearing is sharp and sound different so have problem in concentrating in left ear.

In some ways, yes it is possible. One study showed 40% lower rate of depression in people in their 70s that used hearing aids compared to those that didn’t use hearing aids.
Why you should not by a hearing aid. This video is misleading. Pumping up frequencies that are weak only degrades your hearing in that range. This is true especially in old people. If you're 55 plus you can remember going to deafening concerts and playing loud music you absolutely can not tolerate now-- instant pain. It's like lifting heavy objects with a weaken spine. As a professional sound engineer of 35 years I have moderate to slightly severe hearing loss in one ear and normal loss in my other ear due to age. There will come a time when I buy a hearing aid but, for now I practice concentrated hearing when needed. Using the above example it is the equivalent of recuperative therapy. There is no free ride in anything, only management.
@@DefiniteHearing I have 35 years as a professional working sound engineer along with 5 years of post secondary and post graduate studies in audio. My problem with audiologists is they no NOTHING about sound-- specifically aural spatial interpretation something a pro sound engineer excels in. Audiologists have an in depth knowledge of anatomy and they understand target numbers but, they are infantile in their understanding of how a trained brain interprets aural information. This something that takes decades to master and is a highly specialized field. When I talk to an audiologist-- I have yearly hearing tests due to my profession-- I have to dumb down the conversation to their level.
p.s. I am not against hearing aids. As I said, I will get one when the time is appropriate. I am highly qualified to know when that time comes. Currently I am waiting for technology to catch up to duplicate audio perception as mentioned above. The tech is not there yet but, continually improving. New devices are using multiple microphones which in time will simulate what the brain demands.

I m 22 just found hearing loss. Since the day I have started putting hearing aids I really felt confident while doing conversation because I can hear what other person is saying and it really motivates you in group conversation.

I got tested at a hearing specialist and it turns out i have light to moderate hearing loss. Which honestly is not a surprise since... like I said, story of my life.
I now get to test a standard device for a week, to see how it goes! It such a weird feeling, because I have no idea how it can improve or change my life. I've just always had lower than average hearing (runs in the family). I'm also scared that once I get tested by a doctor, they won't give me a prescription so that health insurance can cover the cost for hearing aids. Ahh I'm so new to all of this. Anyway, glad I found your video!
I'm glad you got it tested! Treating hearing loss is expensive but it is priceless and so worth it. Know that hearing devices take time to get used to. You'll go from your current hearing levels to feeling like you hear EVERYTHING. It can be overwhelming. Just know that is normal. Express your concerns to have the devices programmed to your needs and preferences and be patient during the adjustment period. It takes 3 weeks to 3 months to get used to hearing aids.

I appreciated this so much! I have mild to moderate hearing loss which I found out 4 years ago. I didn’t believe it; I was only in my 40s. Then COVID happened and everyone had to wear masks. That’s when I realized I must have carried on a lot of conversations by reading lips. I just went for my hearing aid consult today and will get them in 2 weeks.

i never thought i might’ve had hearing loss until i realized that i would read peoples lips to be able to hear them. now with mask i can’t do that and in busy places i can barely hear what people say, it’s always been like that but reading their lips helped. i have to turn up the tv louder and my mom yells at me that it’s way to loud but any lower i can’t hear it😂
Yes, you should go get your hearing checked just in case! If you do need hearing aids, you'll be amazed to hear how much you haven't been hearing!
So thankful for your channel. I was diagnosed with mild to moderate hearing loss. Still have 100% on speech processing, so thankful for that. Going to be getting hearing aids this week. Hoping I can adjust to them so that I can feel more confident in social situations and enjoy sounds that I have been missing.

I have hearing aids and I never wear them. I work in finance so I thought id get a pair to hear my clients. This past Friday I was having a conversation with someone behind a partition and I couldn't hear not one word... This is a regular thing. I pretend like I hear the person but I can't ... Friday it got to the point where I needed to walk around. I said, I need to walk around because I can't hear anything.. i have tinnitus too but amazingly I love it.. it never bothers me .... it make me unique and I embraced it...
Yes, there is a difference between hearing and understanding. Hearing aids can make sound louder but understanding is still a tough ball game. That is good you found something that works for you. I've never met anyone who has told me they like their tinnitus. Please, tell me about that! What do you like about it?

This video has been helpful to me to understand my level of loss. I went to an audiologist, ordered hearing aids and will have them fitted in a few weeks. I have the chart she prepared but she didn't explain the level of loss as I see in your chart in this video. My low number is around 60 so it's moderate. I look forward to getting them and seeing what I've been missing. I'm 74 so it's no surprise. Maybe after I get used to them I'll come back to this video or another one of yours with comments "from a newbie".

Problem with soft consonants and hear poorly under 40db. This sounds like what I have. I saw the audiologist, and I am going to get hearing aids next week. I always have to ask people to repeat themselves, I go into a shell sometimes to avoid that. It's been something I've been conscious of for a few years and now I had to do something about it. Thanks for your video.

Hiya! Hope you’re having a good day/night! I came across this video and I just wanted to say thank you so much for this video. A little over a year ago I started to realise that I couldn’t hear properly in crowds and school. I was able to hear pretty much everything but at school I really struggled understanding my teachers or my friends, this was because it was always loud and crowded. My family started realising it as well saying that I was always asking them to repeat themselves or always saying pardon. I ignored it for some time but it just felt like it was getting worse and my teachers at school would get annoyed at me because they thought I wasn’t listening. So I went to an audiologist and booked a hearing test. This showed that I had low frequency mild to moderate hearing loss. I then got hearing aids to help make noises clearer, and they helped me so much. I’ve had them for over a year now and I have no regrets. However I never really told anyone about them because I felt my hearing loss wasn’t valid as it wasn’t prominent. I just wanted to say thank you for this video and explaining what it’s really like. You demonstrated it so well and told people what it’s like living with mild hearing loss. Thank you, I really appreciate it.
I am so happy to hear you've had the opportunity to get hearing aids. Hearing aids are funny little things. They solve the first problem of not being able to hear but then seem to bring new unexpected problems with regards to validation like you mentioned. I'm getting tested next week. I have such a hard time hearing those soft consonants as you mentioned and especially can't hear in social situations like restaurants etc. I took a few different online tests and the results were inconsistent saying anywhere from 15db loss to 50 db loss, well, guess we'll find out. I had a hearing test about 6 years ago, the doc said, "it's just a confidence thing"...right yeah, my whole life have been exposed to loud noise, pianos, concerts, gunshots, construction work, tools etc. I used an amplifier last year and could hear so well. Makes me wonder what a real device would be like. Thanks for the great video.
Authentic hearing aids are pricey but worth every penny! In the US there are 30 day free, no obligation trials so call and audiologist and just try some out! I think you'll find they help a ton. Especially if the amplifier helped.

@@DefiniteHearing To hold me off I just purchased some air pod pro and followed instructions I found on CZcams to set them up like hearing aids. I am (was) skeptical if hearing aids will do anything to be honest.
I just got back inside… I never knew how much sounds was out there. Birds and I think bugs (strange noises) like a jungle or something. Never knew grass made a sound when I walked through it before. Cried a bit. Mosquitoes started eating me up so I came inside. Fans, air conditioners, walking… lots of noises. I can only imagine what it would be like if I get real hearing aids.
The ringing is still there though 😞

Thank you for the reassurance. I'm currently testing out hearing aids for my mild to moderately severe high frequency loss, and the improvements have been so subtle that I've had a hard time deciding whether I actually "need" them. I'm only into the 2nd week of my trial, so hope I continue to find some benefit -- even if it is subtle. (30 dB @4000 dipping to 60 dB @8000)
My opinion: You need the hearing aids. They're worth it and will help you ward off dimentia.
Most audiologist don't like to suggest hearing aid for mild loss but I found it makes a big difference as there are more n more hearing aids for mild loss
It breaks my heart when I hear doctors don't recommend treatment for mild losses. Avoid those audiologists that fail to recommend treatment.
Same here for me I have 30db loss in 250 hz and 500hz in right ear only. I consulted several audiologist they said no need of hearing aids now but I have sharp hearing in my right ear and difficulty in understanding words little distance away from right and very sharp when near. I feel difference in hearing both ear. My brain always compare my right and left hearing
I am 26 and am suffering from hearing loss. When I got the diagnosis, it was as if my world fell apart and I couldn't belive that I am facing this issue at such a young age. Also my doctor told me that sensoneural hearing loss is progressive and could get worse as we age. I was wondering what steps we can take to delay the progression as much as possible.
Yes, a diagnosis can be life changing. And yes, a sensorineural loss can progress. Unfortunately, the reality is our hearing loss will naturally digress as we age regardless of how our loss from the sensorineural loss progresses.
I recommend taking advantage of the hearing you do have by using it. Get high quality hearing devices that help you hear sounds you other wise can’t but that don’t raise volume on sounds you don’t need (protect your hearing in that aspect). We live in such an amazing day and age where we can hear well with technology. Love and use it!

My mom thinks I need hearing aids cause I can hear her when it's quiet but she has to repeat herself 24/7 when it's not quiet. I also notice that my hearing cuts out into silence when people are talking, or my ears ring.
Sounds like you have a mix of tinnitus and hearing loss. Go visit an audiologist and have them do an audiogram for you.
Good video!! Yes, you need help to be able to hear those sounds. Otherwise you will be filling in the blanks in sentences. Ex: I went to Hallmark store and brought a _______. Would that be car or card? That’s a lot of thinking and it gets tiring. Plus, dementia runs in my family I’m fighting it off as best as I can.

I was diagnosed with mild asymmetric sensorineural hearing loss and life is very frustrating. I am in my mid 30s and have dealt with a slow decline over the last 10+ years. I have been to an audiologist and ENT. I was told hearing aids wouldn’t help me, however when I use sound amplifiers while watching TV they help me so much! I just do not understand why hearing aids wouldn’t do the same thing for me. Enjoyed your video!
Did they say why hearing aids wouldn't help? They sound like they would! I'd get another opinion from a different audiologist. I'm sorry you're dealing with this frustrating hearing loss!
Basically the ENT told me that my issue is not so much hearing but being able to understand and certain consonance drop off and hearing aids wouldn’t help that. In my right ear The hair follicles in my cochlea are damaged and they don’t know why. I have hearing loss in the higher frequencies. It’s hard for me to understand when people talk to me and they are turned away from me, my tv and music volume are always “too loud” for others when to me it sounds normal, and if someone has an accent I might as well forget it. Don’t get me wrong I love accents, but they make it so much harder for me to understand what people are saying.
Also the audiologist told me that it was really up to me if I felt like I needed the hearing aids which I feel like they would really help me, but I’m not a doctor so if the ENT thinks they won’t help then I don’t want to spend a bunch of money.
I have that same sort of hearing loss and hearing aids help so so much. Sadly, hearing standards of care are lower than others. An eye doctor would never not recommend glasses if they'd help a person but for some reason hearing ENT doctors do that same thing. People are SO strange. My guess is they're hearing and they assume we are better off living without something they have... It makes no sense to me.
I have my yearly hearing evaluation this year in September, so we will see what happens. I doubt anything has changed with my hearing but I will be seeing a different audiologist this time. I’m going to get her opinion because I really feel like I need help. I’m more open to hearing aids now than I used to be because my family and I have gotten so frustrated with how hard it is to communicate. Thanks for listening and caring!

Good video. Mild hearing loss in low freq, dropping to moderate at 2k, and Mod Severe 4-8k.
I've been putting this off for so long. I mean pretty much in denial. I did ASL in College as my language, and assumed that I was almost faking needing them when I saw what true Hard of Hearing people go through. Made a bunch of friends in that class, probably should have just asked, but embarrassed.
Although since then its gotten worse, and I spend a stupid amount of time, especially in say a checkout line with Women (voice closer to my hearing loss) with high pitched voices telling me things. I keep asking asking "what" "one more time" and then the dreaded putting my ear up close and asking "no seriously sorry, just one more time" only to find they were just saying have a good day. Its super embarrassing.
It doesn't cause issues... Until it does I guess.
It even showed in this video with your soft consonants. All of them just sounded like "sh"
I think it may be time for me to take the plunge and get some hearing aids. Autologist says im on the fence, but I *will* need them eventually and that somehow if I dont get them it will start screwing with my ability to hear words cause it changes how your brain works. Dunno
Everything you’re saying is in line with a hearing loss and I think hearing aids could really help you. Just try some for the 30 day no obligation trial. Don’t skimp on quality, get a great pair you love. Also, might I mention, Bluetooth sound through hearing aids are AMAZING. You might wish you got them sooner.
@@DefiniteHearing Just got them a couple days ago. Can't take them off because now everything feels muffled if I do (I like the new clarity). I'm loving them. but man are they Itchy/uncomfortable sometimes. Phillps 9040 RITE hearing aids. Also my partner noticed that I am speaking more softly (Be speaking lound was an issue before), and haven't said "what...?" since I got them
Do they get physically more comfortable over time? Its not unbearable, but its annoying when I notice it.

@@ryanmichaelhaley I use the ReSound Enzo 3D aids. I believe that it is TOTALLY possible to overpay for hearing aids (off-brand amplifiers from a distributor). That said, I also believe it is completely worth it to save up and get a sturdy, solid pair of hearing aids. I HIGHLY recommend visiting an audiologist, have them map your hearing and recommend a hearing aid. Make sure it is one of the "Big 6" brands and shop around for the best price.
I got them because I work with children (have more trouble at the high pitch, softer voice of small humans). I also struggle to hear in noisy places, or when people aren’t facing me. I found myself asked people to repeat things. Sure wish health insurance would help pay. Aids are expensive.
I can relate! I agree, it would be nice and make sense if medical insurance helped pay for hearing aids. If you haven't already, contact your state Vocational Rehabilitation services and see if they can help cover hearing devices for you.

Now I’m 19 and in my second year of university and considering a hearing aid so I can better hear in lectures, in the studio, and when spending time with my friends.
How did you navigate feeling like the only one your age with hearing aids (if you did feel that way)? What do I do if I want to listen to music with earbuds? Do hearing aids have that capability? What about noise cancelling?
Do you think people ever mistake those earbud-esque hearing aids for actual earbuds? I worry because of exams and whether or not people think I’m being rude by not removing them while we’re talking. I don’t really want to have to explain myself all the time
My sister has hearing aids so I was blessed to have her in not feeling totally alone.
I also had a best friend with a hearing loss. She was another huge blessing.
To answer your questions: it is totally normal to feel on the outs when you’ve got a hearing loss. Do what you can to aid it as best as you can. Go see a reputable audiologist and get quality hearing aids. (Google your state and vocational rehabilitation, as a student they may be able to help you purchase hearing aids and/or pay for tuition. They did for me.)
I say for the reasons you mentioned, pass on the earbud look. They aren’t a long term solution.
I just got diagnosed with Meniers Disease a week and a half ago , I had a 40 on my audio gram and I go back next month to get hearing tested again. Honestly I’ve had hearing issues for about 3 years and ringing so I’m hoping I qualify for hearing aids to help mask the ringing and to help me hear again.

I been having issues understanding people for a long time. I can hear most of what people say but only if they speak somewhat loud. If they don't I'll hear mumbling and missing words in a sentence. If I don't get this taken care of I be able to finish learning foreign languages. Or just have a normal conversation with my coworkers.

Thank you very much for this video. I just found out I need hearing aids, but the audiologist didnt explain too much to me. I am getting a second opinion tomorrow so I can get a better understanding, but I know I have mild hearing loss and that I do in fact need hearing aids. I have to admit this has all been pretty scary to know that at the age of 34 my hearing is declining so much. Any recommendations on trying to keep a positive mind set as I start this journey? My head tends to worry about things I may have to face in the future.

I was told I have a mild hearing loss in both ears and that’s not true I can hear birds chirping from a distance and close to me through my window not sure what you meant by saying can’t hear birds chirping but I can hear
Birds chirping is just an example. If you can hear them you don't have a hearing loss at the bird chirping frequencies, but other frequencies.

Idk I feel like I can hear birds and such? But I cant hear in noisy environments and I have difficulty understanding especially children and some women. If someone speaks softly its like they’re mumbling. If theres music in the background its sk hard. People need to speak loudly and clearly for me to understand. Hearing on the phone can be challenging. I often turn my volume all the way up on phone and I need to use captions. I worked for many years in a noisy environment and have had chronic ear infections as a kid
Hearing loss is tricky because you can hear at some pitches but have a loss at others. Hence you can hear birds but not voices. I recommend getting an audio gram to understand what pitches and volumes you can hear.

You are moderate since it is the end of the mild and beginning of the moderate stage. Accepting the moderate loss is the first step to effective hearing care!

Thank you for asking your question! I will add this to my video list. Videos take time to produce so here is a quick answer: Hearing aids and speech therapy helped immensely. They enabled me to hear and follow along. Understanding is what was difficult so I benefitted from kind teachers that would write important things on the whiteboard and face me when they spoke. (I have a tips for teachers of deaf and hard of hearing children video - check it out!) I used school provided services like an FM microphone to help increase the volume of the teacher's voice too. Hearing aid fittings, especially hearing tests and sound mappings, were uncomfortable but important so my hearing aids could sound as good as possible. With a hearing loss, at times I felt dumb (when I responded incorrectly because I didn't hear something) and different from everyone else. That was difficult. I found the best way to combat that is to laugh off of the mistakes, to fill time with hobbies I enjoy, and socialize with others my age. I hope this helps!

Advice anyone? I am annoyed that I don’t hear everything people are saying, but I am still very unsure if I could have hearing loss. Because I took a test online which said I have good hearing. Maybe I am just more curious of what people are saying even in places it’s hard for anyone to hear… I know I hear slightly worse than my classmates because in loud environments I don’t hear as good and can’t keep up while others seem to do better. But you should only search help if it bothers you, and I just have trouble in loud environments and if someone talks quietly. Also I wish I could hear people that are further away and not talking directly to me, because then it’s easier to get into the conversation, but maybe I have good hearing just wishing to hear more... For example I took a eye sight test because I suspected it wasn’t good but it turned out I had good eyes…
My advice: go get an audiogram, a real hearing test, from an Audiologist. An online hearing test is like taking an online personality test. The computer doesn't know your personality like a human and certainly won't test your hearing properly.

Hi, I've been to a ENT some days ago and he did a hearing test. The result of it: I have a mild hearing loss on one ear (30db) and I'm close to a mild hearing loss on my other ear (20db), both in the mid frequencies. The ENT told me that so far there's nothing I could do about it. Would you recommend me to get a second oppinion by an audioligist? In your video it sound's like a hearing aid might already help me and that an audioligist is the real professional for any kind of hearing loss. I do have issues understanding other people, I feel like it's just getting worse and worse and I hoped the ENT would suggest a hearing aid.
That ENT is off base. Yes, you may not be able to fix the hearing loss but you can possibly get hearing devices that will help.
Yes. Follow your gut and get a second opinion from an audiologist. Like vision loss, any degree of hearing loss deserves to have the option to be treated.

There are many types of hearing loss and you may have a low frequency or cookie bite hearing loss. This would mean you’re unable to hear speech range pitches and would explain why you can still hear birds chirping. I recommend visiting an audiologist and having them do an audiogram to objectively map your hearing.

I have a serious question 🥺. I am having a mild hearing loss. Since its just a hearing loss but its an awkward moment for others to experience this from me. Some of them laughed at me and some made me comfortable but some made me embarrassing at. Even though i was suggested by a one person in seimens company. He suggested me an expensive hearing aid price in a very taunted and like making fun of me that had lose my confidence in myself for this. I just want don't remember what my range was but i only remember that it was mild and i was suggested a hearing aid. What should I do i mean what if I put on hearing aid would that help me out to recover my hearing loss as its by birth.

Please help me.. was born deaf and at really young age had a surgery which left me my right ear working 75% and my left ear is gone... Doctors tried to put hearing aids but it was too loud for me. Kind of weird from me. Haven’t been back since, is there anything new I could try?
Hearing aid volumes can be reduced. I recommend that you try it again and have them turn the volume down. It takes 3-6 weeks to get used to hearing aids, and even then it can still hard to understand what people are saying.

In my line of work, we do occupational hearing tests on a fit and healthy population. It have noticed that most of the younger people range between 5db to -5 db. Does the threshold for mild hearing loss need to be reviewed?
I’m not a medical expert so I won’t say. That said, I definitely think all people should be screened for hearing loss. Many people don’t realize they have hearing loss.

It can. Mine has remained pretty consistent. To decrease your chances of your hearing loss worsening, I recommend using hearing protection in loud environments.

With good ears, hearing aids certainly amplify the sound and can hurt your ears. My husband and dad have tried wearing my hearing aids for a second - they REALLY disliked it. They couldn't believe how loud it was haha.

I hear mostly everything, with no difficulty at all
but my right ear has mild to moderate hearing loss dipping upto 60dbHL at 2k Hz
So can I wear hearing aids in just the right ear?, my ent told me to wear in both but these things are quite expensive and if I have a near perfect hearing in one ear, I really see no use in wearing it in the other ear.
You have a mild-moderate loss in the left and moderate in the right. You should certainly get hearing aids for both ears. You don't know what you don't hear.

My right ear diagnosed with 30 db loss in 250hz and 25 db in 500 rest all frequencies are normal.
I had sudden hearing loss last month then it was 50 db in above frequencies now it has come up to 30db. I feel spoken words are sharper in right ear since left is normal. Do I need hearing aid audiologist says no need of aids now. But I have difficulty in communication and due to social stigma I ahve double thinking about hearing aids too, I am only 32 yrs old.
I highly recommend seeing another audiologist. Hearing aids are so helpful for hearing loss.
For mild hearing loss which is better,CIC hearing aids or RIC hearing aids
I don’t have experience with CICs as my loss is moderate to severe. So wither should work. They will feel very different, so test them both out to figure out what you like.
At noise couldn't understand conversation well... And tend to speak loudly...

Feeling comfortable when someone knows our feelings.
I am still confused if I should get hearing aid or not.. I have mild to moderate hearing loss.. but m not sure how it will impact to people around me, how my family/colleague will react.. cause I haven't revealed that to anyone yet.. also how its gonna affect in my work environment.. whether they will feel uncomfortable to give me more responsibilities..
I say give it a try to see what you think. You don't know what you don't hear. You will hear more and your close relationships will thrive.

So do I have hearing loss when ever I lay down I can’t hear but when I pull my ears I can hear better and sometimes when I turn my head my ear suddenly feels blocked for no reason. I have moved in higher in the mountains but it’s been a year and I still hear this stuff please respond pls.
It sounds like you might have an ear pressure/balance issue. I recommend visiting an audiologist. They will run tests to give you a personalized answer and proper treatment recommendation.

my left ear is completely damaged and in my right ear db in its highest is around 30-40 . i have a little bit of a problem in hearing in class or when there are any background sounds like fan etc do i need an hearing aid

You’re not a fraud. Help yourself, listen to your gut and try some OTC hearing aids. Take advantage of the free trial periods. I recommend only trying those you can afford to keep.

You can buy her anything with out a Doctor's help. That said, what you buy will not properly help her. In order to properly help your wife, I recommend setting an appointment with an audiologist for a hearing mapping or audiogram. They will measure your wife's hearing aid and recommend the best device for her ears.

Hi! My right ear is my "bad ear," too! I'm not a medical expert or doctor but from my personal experience of wearing hearing aids, I highly recommend wearing a hearing aid in the your right ear! Be sure to get the Bluetooth hearing aids - they make music and audio on a smart device sound AMAZING!

I have mild loss in right but feel difficult to manage. Ppl say it will get adjusted. But have problem in double hearing right side hearing is sharp and sound different so have problem in concentrating in left ear.

Headphones are usually better than ear pods. Typically long term exposure, listening to loud volumes for hours at a time is what decreases hearing.

Why you should not by a hearing aid.
This video is misleading. Pumping up frequencies that are weak only degrades your hearing in that range. This is true especially in old people. If you're 55 plus you can remember going to deafening concerts and playing loud music you absolutely can not tolerate now-- instant pain. It's like lifting heavy objects with a weaken spine. As a professional sound engineer of 35 years I have moderate to slightly severe hearing loss in one ear and normal loss in my other ear due to age. There will come a time when I buy a hearing aid but, for now I practice concentrated hearing when needed. Using the above example it is the equivalent of recuperative therapy. There is no free ride in anything, only management.

@@DefiniteHearing I have 35 years as a professional working sound engineer along with 5 years of post secondary and post graduate studies in audio. My problem with audiologists is they no NOTHING about sound-- specifically aural spatial interpretation something a pro sound engineer excels in. Audiologists have an in depth knowledge of anatomy and they understand target numbers but, they are infantile in their understanding of how a trained brain interprets aural information. This something that takes decades to master and is a highly specialized field. When I talk to an audiologist-- I have yearly hearing tests due to my profession-- I have to dumb down the conversation to their level.
p.s. I am not against hearing aids. As I said, I will get one when the time is appropriate. I am highly qualified to know when that time comes. Currently I am waiting for technology to catch up to duplicate audio perception as mentioned above. The tech is not there yet but, continually improving. New devices are using multiple microphones which in time will simulate what the brain demands.
