The way this dude with the sea shell collector finds a piece of plastic in it and just throws it away gives me the ick
If the seashell scoop was used to pick up plastic instead of shells i could get behind that😃
I love these videos for a lot of reasons, but mainly the joy of seeing what ridiculous things humans can come up with. We're really quite a creative species if nothing else!
YAY thank you for the beginning message about how you are able-bodied. I was very able-bodied and my sustainability was so focused on the things I could do as an able-bodied human (I didn't realize I was being ableist). So when I became disabled, a big part of my identity felt unreachable.
In reality, there are ways to be disabled and environmentally conscious-- it just takes some figuring out as to what one can and cannot do, by looking at the adaptive equipment one needs and what is in a zone that is doable without compromising health. It's exhausting-- being disabled is exhausting, and on top of it trying to be conscious in any other way adds to the exhaustion. But I promise it's doable, even if it's finding one tiny thing to change at a time 💜
Apparently, shell collecting can be bad for the environment because in certain places, it's been picked empty... so much so, that crabs who grow out of old shells can't find new ones because there aren't any, so they're forced to adopt plastic bottle caps and other rubbish found on the beach. I had no idea this was even an issue until I recently saw a short on it on CZcams. It's best to leave any and all shells and to obviously pick up plastic, to preserve the environment.
A month ago I was in the shop with underwear and socks and such stuff. Woman before me bought a lot of stuff so she could get beach bag for 1Eur. And she didn't want that, she said that she has some at home. I was surprised and saleswoman was also surprised. Who doesn't want a bag almost for free?! Now I think she was really sensible. Sometimes we are so enchanted by the promotion that we forget that we don't need something.
Thanks for really good video
🙂
Love your vids. But as a university student in a tropical country with classes in rooms without ac, I would never leave the house without my handheld electric fan. I have been using an ordinary fan for the longest time, switching to a handheld electric fan was life changing. Remembering to charge it is just like remembering to charge your phone.
I think a lot of people buy the cheap folding chairs with the unfortunate intent of leaving them behind at the festival. 😢
Yes we used to in the uk, go clear the festival grounds after the events and every time we collect so many tents chairs mattresses we take them and if nothing wrong with them we sell them.and proceeds go to the local food bank.
There's actually a logic to electric fans if you live somewhere really hot. With hand-held ones you need to be fanning yourself constantly and the effort of doing that actually makes you hot if you do it for a long time (which you most likely will be doing if you're using it in the first place). So when it's 40º outside, it can actually be very useful. I don't have one, but friends do and it's heaven. But yeah, not really a must have, just useful if you live somewhere really hot. Also not something I would buy if I'm just visiting.
yes. i live in a very hot country and i have asthma. sometimes the heat can get so bad that i struggle to breathe and movement of any kind makes my breathing problems even worse so having a little fan that i don’t have to manually move around to cool down helps a lot
What about those handheld plastic (yeah, sorry) fans with a hinge that you press and then they rotate for a few seconds? There are also ones that spray mist, all non-electric.
I have one that lays around my neck & looks like headphones, and as someone that often uses a mobility aid & overheats very easily & lives in an area where a lot of our buildings don’t have AC, it’s SO helpful. Our temps get to 95*F+ in the summer & we have very little tree cover since I’m in a large city, so having a fan is almost necessary
My first time visiting Madrid was in July, it was 40+ degrees Celsius, I noticed that all the beautiful and perfectly dressed locals always carried a fan with them and would use it to keep cool 😊. I bought one and it was great 👍.
Or if you have kids who are too young (toddlers) to know that that continuous motion will help. Our summers regularly hit three digit temps every day all summer. We need these fans if we want to go anywhere.
I'm glad I'm from New England where everyone just uses the same monogrammed LL Bean tote bag they've had for 20+ years as their beach bag 😂
Sustainable queens and kings the whole lot 😎🙌
And those bags are BEASTS. I have had one for almost two decades and while I haven't used it for the beach because we don't have a beach, it has been hauled around stuffed to the brim with library books, it has hauled stuff to potlucks, it has...oh, I don't even know what all it has hauled. Still going strong. Oh, and it stands up without falling over as well. My children can fight over it when I am gone.
@@OnePoetWanderer my parents have one that is older than I am (I will be 33 this summer). My sister got me one when I got married almost a decade ago and I fully expect to be buried in it.
The shell collector seems like a way people who sell accessories or decoration with shells are able to collect more. Which is an issue in and of itself though, because that means they'll take way too many shells home with them...
Love the disclaimer at the beginning about how some products that seem unnecessary to able-bodied people are actually adaptive devices for people with disabilities.
it might not be the case with many of these “must haves” but that is also not for me to decide 💚🌿 different needs should be more frequently considered
the seats/umbrellas with fans and spray is definitely something that is something that is more useful in certain climates and circumstances than others, as I have absolutely used the chairs with umbrella attachments growing up in the southern part of the united states. . It's also another thing that I have used/know a lot of people who use them because they can be really useful for people who have problems regulating their body temperature independently, or who can't use manual fans because of dexterity problems, etc. I honestly wish that some of the items like that could just be made decently, rather than being relegated to medical grade expense or cheap crap
Then again the "medically expensive or cheap crap are the only options" might be a US issue as well
"Be an adult!" 😂😂 Yeesssss just pour shots like a normal human
more people needs to hear that 😂
That umbrella is hilarious
When in nature…take pictures, leave footprints. 📷🤳👣 Can’t remember where I read that, but I love it❤❤❤
Hi Kathleen🌹🌹
How are you doing?
You wouldn’t believe the hilarious ads that popped up on CZcams when I started watching this! A bag with a pocket for every device!
it’s listening 😂
I will say the tote is a must have for my mom, but she spends a lot of time at the beach. She priorities having an easy clean up system when she leaves and loves how much easier it is to get the sand off of it then a normal cloth bag. However, I do think it is excess for people who go to the beach one week out of the year. She also does not have any of the accessories that go along with it. That is just too much.
I love how you call out the products that create more body insecuritys😊
I am so over companies benefits telling us to be insecure 😩
@@Gittemary On this note I would like to recommend the song I just found a few days ago - It is "Victoria's Secret" by the artist Jax and it is exactly about this! So cool!
I love my electric fan hahha… rest I agree with
as someone who has carried a few different fans in my day, i actually have some tips for anyone looking to get one that will last!
- if you want to keep it in your pocket (not in a bag) you will need a shorter fan. if it's too tall for your pocket it will fall out constantly and you will lose it.
-if you can stand losing some efficiency, i have one where the bits (spokes? tines? slats? idk, the bits.) are made of very thin wood, and it has held up way better than any of the others that have been made with plastic. usually the 'fabric' (if you can call it that, it's basically just a thin sheet of plastic) is glued to the bits, so if you just pick up a cheap one somewhere it will stick to itself, fall apart, get torn, etc. having the fabric does make them work slightly better, so i keep some to carry for really hot days, but the wood is my everday fan
- i try to limit overconsumption, but i never feel bad about having multiple fans!! they're different sizes, i can keep one in each bag (i have adhd and the likelihood of forgetting to switch which bag the fan is in is like. 98%.) and literally every time i use one i'll have a friend or stranger ask if i have another. it's easier when the answer is yes
also this might just be a thing with my personal anxiety but it can sometimes feel like drawing too much attention to yourself to whip out a fan (especially inside, as i often do living in the southern us and being fat with thick hair) but i promise you no one will care. i've never gotten a single negative comment on it, and i've been in rooms with some real assholes. honestly i rarely get any comments on it at all, but when i do it's usually 'where are those at?' (as in 'oh my god it's so hot at this function, are they providing fans??') or 'that's smart' or 'oh i like your fan!' also the motorized fans are loud as hell, so that will certainly draw more attention than a hand fan
ALSO! (last comment for now i promise lol) it makes an excellent covert stim for when you don't feel comfortable just moving your hands around without a neurotypically visible ""purpose""
nice ideaaa XDD. I have been so confused about buying a fan that suits me the best (and also I hope it's not an overconsumption for me ._.). I love the idea of searching the one with thin wood and fabric
If you are looking for a hand fan I highly recommend a nylon foldable frisbee (it’s an outer ring of thin metal covered in nylon fabric). Very portable and works pretty well. A bigger hand fan that works even better is an African circular folding hand fan. The fan is made of stiffened fabric (usually in an African style print) and leather for the handle.
Two things--
1. How and why does that festival chair have a drink cooler?? Like it's not folding down with the chair, are you hauling cold drinks and ice separate to put in it once you pop it up??? Definitely seems like an instagram clout device that's more annoying than it's worth even if it doesn't break instantly lol. I'll stick to the wood & fabric folding chair I already have lol
2. The idea of must-haves is so silly in general. I can tell when I don't have targeted ads on because Amazon spams me with "Beauty Must-haves for Summer!!" Girl I don't even wear makeup...
I’ve found that the Coleman brand folding camp chairs last FOREVER. We’re actually letting go of our set that we’ve had since I was a kid (20+ years) this summer as they’re on heavy bottom away from tearing at this point, but they’ve lasted a good long while!
I’ve had some foldable chairs my mom bought at Sam’s club since I was in elementary school and im 24 now! They can last a long time if you treat your stuff well. Sustainably has just as much to do with maintaining your belongings as it does with not buying new ones all the time.
Vintage metal lawn folding chair! So cute and lightweight! I bring mine to the beach. For the water thing, I keep a little spray bottle of rose water in my bag that I refill from a big bottle from the Middle Eastern grocery. Very nice and cooling.
I have to disagree on the mini fan, I've had mine a few years and when it got really hot it was soo useful, but there are definitely a lot of crappy ones out, mine looks like a mini version of a big fan basically and those are best and most powerful
I found a REALLY quality folding chair at a thrift store for $10 USD and I love it! I bring a towel with me to put on it because the material of the chair is a little warm for me (I have a lot of temperature disregularation problems) and then I also use the ends of that towel to wipe off my feet of grass or sand.
I also recently bought an electric fan that rests around my neck & looks like headphones because it gets so hot where I live, we have very little tree coverage, and I use a mobility aid a lot, so having a hands-free option saves my backside. A lot of our buildings, my apartment included, don’t have AC, so it gets a lot of use. I specifically chose a rechargeable one so that I didn’t have to go hunting for my rechargeable batteries every time it needed recharging.
For the sand you can use a little towel and spred a generous amount of baby powder in the towel or at the part that you wanna clean, it does wonders.
Thanks for the tip!
I agree with all of these! I've had the same hand fan for about 15 years, works great, noiseless, never have to charge it. All those little plastic ones break within weeks.
I find that dry sand helps get any sand stuck on me off, so the fact someone feels like they need another product for it is so wild
I've got a couple of those folding chairs for the beach/festivals/camping, we've had the same two chairs for ~7 years, going strong. One has a small tear in one place but it's stayed the same for several years and they're a little beat up but still perfectly safe and usable. Sometimes they last! :)
My family has a set of folding chairs forever- 20 years?- they're made of like thick canvas material- modern one's I've seen have such thin fabric, they can't last long.
That beach bag looks like it would last a long time. I almost bought one, but I generally just use a grocery style tote bag when we go to the pool. It keeps everything contained and isn't another item to keep up with.
An itch in a place they can’t reach…. Wow who hurt you girl hahaha I love it!!!!!
Your 'be an adult!' just made my day!
Hi Kathy🌹🌹
How are you doing?
I have one of those beach bags! I got it second hand and it’s the best for hauling groceries home from the market so tomatoes aren’t rolling around everywhere. I use it as a crafts tote if I’m knitting and as a dirty clothes hamper when camping. Necessary? Absolutely not but I do love mine plus it was only $2
love a practical second hand find 😎 I just found foldable festival chairs in a thrift store 😂
Friendly disagreement on the portable fan. They are a lifesaver, especially in this intense Midwest heat!
I will say, that shot dispensing cup was likely made with Americans in mind, where drinking alcohol in public places (outside of restaurants and bars) is illegal in a large number of places, regardless of if you're of drinking age. It's especially true in the American south where a lot of major beach destinations are, and also especially true of liquor (beer and wine can be treated differently). We definitely have whole lines of products devoted specifically to smuggling alcohol, haha.
That being said, just make the drink in your cup before you leave like the rest of us.
I live in SoCal by the beach and that sand wiper would actually be quite useful because the sand here is microscopic and sticky. Wiping it with a towel doesn’t help at all. You can literally shower and still have sand stuck to you if you don’t scrub enough so if that sand wiper thing really works it would be an awesome product, especially with kids before you get in the car.
Try a paintbrush, like the kind you paint a wall with. We use one for our kids' feet and it works way better than a towel.
@@elevenisonelouderthanks, thats a good idea. I will!
Shell collector hmmm maybe useful to collect the trash and some plastic instead of shells 😆
okay I would LOVE a beach plastic collecter 😍
Love your videos❤️ I’m happy that I’m not the only one who hates these kind of useless items😂
“Be an adult” 😂😂 Thank for this video and have a lovely Bezos-free summer ☀️
My parents have had the same camp/festival chairs for at least twenty years and they're not broken. I can't believe things like this are made so poorly now. 😫
My parents have 2 foldable beach chairs that must be about 30 years old, they are still going 😊. Not heavy to transport, they just don't have a bag to be carried around in, but if you really wanted one you could make one up. They have a few rust spots but are perfectly functional 😊
You nailed it with this video. What a bunch of junk. I think the most problematic product to use is the armpit bleach. Ether this doesn't work at all, which would be a best case scenario here, or it would burn holes in the oh so sensitive skin under your arm. Generally skin bleaching products are quite harsh.
The whole 'create a new beauty standard and then market a product to fix it' fills me with anger. I think it would be interesting to do a deep dive some time on beauty products that supposedly fix certain issues and then research how long those 'issues' have been something we thought about.
I could kind of see the use for the misting umbrella, it's like a portable version of the misting tents that festivals set up with the heat index is dangerously high. However, I also question whether it's actually usable. With a full water bottle it would be heavy (because it seems like you'd also have batteries in it, if I understand the way it works), and then how quickly do you go through the water? It seems like it wouldn't be practical for an extended length of time. Easier to have a lightweight sun parasol if you need the shade and then carry a separate bottle to spritz yourself if you need it.
Hahahaha love the tote bag commentary
My granda gave us his wooden travel chairs-it is small and made out of two parts that you asemble. Still works. It is a great piece.
Also- omg to the arm pit bleaching. I used bicarb based deo and mine armpit got lighter. So I guess it had to functions. Now I use wild and my pits are back to normal
This video was so much fun to watch! Thank you, Gittemary!
I love looking like a mystery woman with my fan or a lady in a Jane Austen novel.
a 10/10 vibe 👏
@@Gittemary yes!!!
You should do a video on all the tiktok skin care where they use about 9 different creams on their faces the amount plastic waste and chemicals they are putting on their skin is insane not only that it's
hoarding products letting them rot cause they rather have a huge collection to film for views rather then using it. There one woman who has over 150 bottles of shower gel from Bath and body works they never get used I find it so frustrating cause its so unesseray and wasteful. I wish natural skincare would trend rather then all these chemical infused products
Love these anti haul must have videos! 😂
Love this kind of video! Thank you Gittemary ✨
While I totally agree about the weird shot-glass-hidden-in-a-Stanley-Cup thing being ridiculous, I can understand the motivation behind it. I lived in Denmark and have visited Scandinavia many times since and am constantly weirded out by how it's legal to drink in public - most places I've been and lived (Canada, Australia, UK, US and many more) there are strict limitations on where you can and can't consume alcohol, and generally the beach is on the no-no list, and you can absolutely be fined for it (or worse) by the cops. So developing secret beach alcoholism products I can understand.... though I still think it is stupid.
It's such an interesting video as always 💚 I don't honestly understand what people are able to make and sell as a "must have" 😢
Still...every time I hear Stanley Cup I think if hockey 🏒 am I too Canadian 😂
It’s crocs BUT as a bag
even my husband, who is not really into the sustainability scene quite yet, thinks these are hilarious
happy to hear that this goes beyond environmentalism 👏
The misting umbrella is ridiculous and the shell collector seems like it would do all sorts of damage to tiny eco systems, and people usually collect shells take them home and forget about them. Truly. Don't
I love your kind of humor i this video :D
I LOVE this ANTI HAULS vidoes ❤
I have a folding sun lounger style chair boughtvit 20 yrs ago and still using it.
Love all your funny comments in vid 👍👍👍
Thank you for watching! 🥰
Hi
love the new earrings!
thank you, I am currently obsessed 😩💚
Love this- though I have that chaise in blue, but I've had it for 10 years and use it to read my book on the beach. I try to do my best to leave my phone at the bottom of my beach bag (it is my wallet/id holder which is why I even bring it).
Please can you do an updated sustainable beauty/skincare/hair care video! X
She has done quit a few of those videos. Scroll through her past videos and you will find them.
and I literally ever change my routine 🙈
@@Gittemary No need to change what works for you🙂
I doubt that anyone hiding their booze in a water bottle also wants it in strictly measured quantities. 🤔
As a former alcoholic, I want to say that you are correct
If you get drunk at the beach i hope you bring a sober friend who can drive you home😉
I bought my (single person) folding chair in 2005 and it's still in a very good condition. Used it at lots of festivals and other gatherings. It also still has the writing/drawing on it since it's first year in use.
I also agree with you on almost all of those "must haves", they are not something I really need.
wow that is a massive flex, good job taking care of your stuff 😍
Wooden deck chair for fests! X
For the foldable chairs - its a little more expensive but the LLBean one I have had has lasted me 15 years of beaches and festivals and sports games soooo highly recommend
I LOVEEEEEEE THIS
I've got canvas new chairs and vintage (my niece calls them straw chairs) 😂😂😂 love and use both!
May his sleeves slip down his arm while washing his hands 😬 Loved your video. ❤️
THe festival chair one is interesting. In America, they definitely make super cheap crappy ones. But they also make great ones. I bought a pair of chairs (not connected like you showed, but just single chairs that sold up and go in a sack) at a sporting store called Dicks over ten years ago and they are EXCELLENT. they are a little bigger than standard because my partner and I are large people, so they also withstand more weight. Just another example of investing in something better so that it lasts.
That beach bag reminds me of a croc. Why would you want a bag that won’t protect your stuff both from sand and sun,and easy theft.
okay now I can’t unsee the croc 😂
very true about the shell collector, most of the time I just like going to walks on the beach and looking at shells that way, personally I can't stand umberrellas, I'd rather spend good money on a nice rain racket that will last years. ew bleach for arm pits?
I have seen so many of those tote bags, big with the toddler mom crowd. I probably would have bought one but I do not have anywhere to store it.
These weren’t that bad actually, some were unnecessary but others seemed a bit more practical that’s if you actually use them regularly and maintain them so you don’t need to throw it out anytime soon.
The shell collector looks like the cutlery stand sold by IKEA. 😅
it really does 😂
WTH is the pool shade? I mean you can just simply get out of the water and sit there eh? Also the stanley shaker.... people know that they can get heat stroke more easily when they get drunk under the sun right? Just because it is convenient does not mean it is healthy.
You are such a gem.❤
I’m new here, excellent channel!
My Amazon "must haves" aren't listed here..... not that I'd expect them to be as most people aren't trying to cope with several unique severe chronic illnesses that like to play off of each other......
My list includes- benzocaine drops for the frequent sore throats that I'm hit with, luden's drops for the same reason, electrolyte concentrate drops, electrolyte concentrate powder, non-iodized table salt (sodium chloride), salt substitute (potassium chloride), magnesium drink supplement and lastly, Gatorade powder.
The table with the umbrella for the pool looks like it would just results in soggy snacks and beers dropped in the pool...😆 oh, and the silicone beach bag is sooo ugly!
I find that a large reusable shopping bag is great, fits loads of stuff, easy to carry and clean and i already own them 😜😂😂😂. That beach bag looks crap, i wouldn't spend a cent on it.
My dear - were did you get those pearls? Absolutely love them and thank you for your critical content!
The earrings are vintage, the big necklace is from Bruna and the small one is from Ana Luisa 🥰
woo im fast this time
Tak for dine videoer!❤
Clarification on the umbrella. I live in Southern California. On a hot dry day the mister will act as air conditioning. Can make 40 degrees Celsius feel like 25. Not saying that I approve of such a product but I do see why it would be useful.
Hi Gittemary, have you heard of or tried Akt deodorant? Apparently, all singing all dancing eco friendly. I haven't checked out the price yet coz I think I'd probably have to get a loan to pay for a tube😂 Anyways, just wondering.. be happy, luv, Nige from South Wales. Hwyl!, x
Question:
Would it be helpful if I (disabled person) will state if product x or y is good or handy for my needs (either to other disabled or just knowledge in general, I don’t know) or would that be considered unnecessary oversharing?
Definitely share that info it helps people to understand the purpose of some of these types of products
❤❤❤
I love your rants 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Keep them coming 😉
no problem 😎👏
-BE AN ADULT
literally 🤯
Thank you Gittemary . Taffy Nige from South Wales x
Why don't you just get a bucket? That has a handle and a top that has some type of cushion on it, instead of having a folding chair? You could store your belongings in the bucket
significantly more accessible 👏
Since when have we needed to be ashamed of our underarm skin color!? I swear, I can't keep up with all of this nonsense. I feel like there is a new thing we are supposed to hate ourselves for every week.
Seems we’ve moved on from hating our eyebrows or our hip shape
I think these products are invented by 13-year-old girls with self-esteem issues ☹️
not by - *for
which is all the more concerning
Sorry, but this solid beach bag looks cool.
These products are crazy. Loved thus. All useless
Everyone would look like an idiot with these items 😂 All this just looks so stupid or cringey.
