At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.
Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.
Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.
So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.

RX is a very Japanese design in that it is very understated and composed on the outside, it spoils the driver and passengers, and is built with quality and reliability first before all other considerations. • @tucakov91
      @tucakov91 Před rokem +2

Lexus would have to introduce new engines for other markets. In most European countries, the larger the engine displacement, the more taxes you pay (sometimes a lot more), making the Lexus 3.5-liter engine unsensible to operate in the long run. For example, you would be much better off with an Audi Q7 that offers a 2-liter engine (anything above 2 liters gets taxed additionally).
Plus, subjectively speaking, I feel like Lexus goes heavy with a US-focused design, while European buyers would turn to other car brands in terms of styling.

My first Lexus was a 2005 RX330 and it has a special place in my heart. It was the first car that I finally felt safe driving in the snow because boy I use to be scared! 😅 Gained so much confidence that I would pick up my coworkers when it snowed. I ended up buying a Lexus IS & RC and I let everyone drive the RX anytime they wanted to go on a road trip. So it’s been through many drivers and many miles and still drove so SMOOTH. Better than my newer Lexus. I’m a loyal Lexus customer all due to the RX. I do miss that car!

I have had the current model F-Sport RX 350 since I bought it new at the end of 2016. When I walked out of the showroom after signing on the dotted line (shaking life a leaf), I thought "what have I just done spending $100K on a car!". I have to say, it has been worth every cent. Apart from a set of new tires and a battery, nothing has gone wrong with it and it still drives like the day I picked it up. Servicing is reasonable and the comprehensive insurance is even cheaper than what I was paying on a Nissan Maxima Ti. It is an absolute pleasure to drive, looks smart without looking like a pretentious eastern suburbs nob (i.e. BMW, Merc or VW driver) and is a dream to drive on a long trips with good fuel economy and adaptive cruise control. If you are not careful, you can get yourself into trouble with the power under the bonnet.

I have been driving this exactly model (450h) since 2012, now it has 170.000 kms and i have to say it is fenomenal, easy to drive and manoeuvre, very comfortable and spacious. One downside is the leather, i find it weak and very synthetic to touch. The engine is a rock and the electric battery has never complained at all. All revisions were made in Lexus dealer. Downtown is where this car shows it’s potencial with such low consumption between 5,5 to 6,5 L/100km. Downside: on the motorway has significantly high fuel average (8-9 L/100 kms). Overall a great vehicle, which lasts forever.

    Excellent channel, reviews.
I had Rx 450h premiere, 2016 new shape as the models on this review look dated and boring but the new shape sculptured and interesting.
Loved the car, smooth as butter, refined, downsides:
1- Fuel economy not great average 28 miles per gallon, occasionally 34 once in heavy non stop traffic for 90 mints fuel economy dropped to 16 mils/G as the hybrid system barely charged.
2-Lexus speech recognition useless, poor accuracy, no speech training in UK like the USA.
3-Ride very smooth but i was surprised that on some bumps it felt occasionally harsh .
As petrol prices went up i traded it for the ES 300 H 2019, an improvement at every level although different class, the hybrid system is so much better, fuel economy amazing, all i miss is the Amazing Mark levenson sound system and the 360 camera which really helps in a car this size.
    Overall excellent car, very reliable.

Built like a tank (but 0-60 in 7.3 secs), everything works and most of them are looked after well & by Lexus (why wouldn't you? - they are honest and treat you like a valued customer). I used to drive the facelift 450H and my god it was a good car. Tech was a bit out-dated, the ML audio system was very good, and the overall quality was just superb. It was same tone interior but with dark wood trim. Blue jeans did some staining on the seats but it was easily cleanable. And I agree about the ergonomics, one of the best layouts I have ever experienced, everything was exactly where it was supposed to be. Practicality was good for my lifestyle, my oversized Rottweiler had enough room in the back. The only annoying thing I remember was the reverse camera - you could not see the tow hitch from the camera so it was a bit annoying to reverse and attach the trailer. But keeping the hitch cover (that plastic thing that goes on top) on did the trick - you could see it just enough and line the car up perfectly for the trailer. Oh and the Lexus service was just mind blowing, believe it or not but the service was cheaper than Toyota. Drove it numerous times across Europe, 150kmh was very comfortable, around ~170kmh it felt slightly floaty as it was quite sensible to the wind and the steering was quite light. But according to others the F-Sport did not have these issues. I absolutely loved that car. BTW that little cup holder in the front is brilliant, put a small water bottle in there and lower the vent and let it blow cold air on it. Perfect when its 30+ degrees outside 😁

  • @MarkVinewood

I have a 2012 GS450h and while I really like it, it has been presenting me some pretty hefty bills. As soon as I got it, had to change the transmission oil pump - 1500€. Then the Blind Spot Monitoring communicator module on the right side stopped working which Lexus again quoted 1500€ for (haven't bothered to change that yet). Last year had to change the engine coolant pump which was again close to 1000€ with the regular maintenance and now the front left shock absorber is dead. It being an F Sport with the electronically adjustable dampers, I'm not keen on finding out the quote on that.
Also, the promised fuel economy of 6.something is total bollocks. I'm driving very efficiently (with an occasional pull) and I'm averaging about 9.0 l/100km. I can imagine the 6.3 being realistic if you ONLY drive around 50-60 km/h with cruise control without having to stop ever. But still I like that car a lot.

My friend had two RX's; one an RX 350 and the other an RX 450h. Both she put over 300,000 miles on and they were still like new and NEVER gave any issues. I have a BMW X3 Xdrive35i which I love, however, if I could do it over I would have purchased an RX. DOn't get me wrong...I absolutely love my BMW but the LLexus was SO much more comfortable and SO much cheaper to work on. Knock on wood, my Beemer has yet to leave me stranded and has been absolute perfection for the 70,000 miles that I have put on it since 2017. I just know that Lexus is notorious for the Toyota reliablity and BMW is known for better engeneering and driving joy but this also come with expensive repair bills (when something does go wrong).

Salty water came also into the two ECU underneath back rear axle . These control the stabilazer both front and rear. Very costly repair. Fuel pipeline into the tank in rear corroded and was replaced. now Rear and front shocks are a bit leaking and will be replaced. I also had the 12 v battery replaaced 2 times during the years. But in any other aspects these are very good cars. Someone does not like the appearance, but if you don't want spend a lot for maintenance and repair and want comfortable car, RX is your choice. Cost of ownership for Lexus (except for LS's) is the same as for Toyota.
