      I seen the same thing of James White as a freshman, yes a freshman at the University of Florida Midnight Madness back in 2001. OMG!! The kid did a two handed, then windmill, then between the legs from FT. I have never seen anybody do it like that and never have since. That includes Zach Lavine who copied the "Flight Package." There is no video evidence but trust me, he did the entire flight package (Windmill, Between the legs, and two handed) and the crowd went crazy. James White. Absolute legend. I love comparing these jumps to elite long jumpers, who jump around 21 feet without a leg shoot (just running through). Obviously they don't have to be as high during long jump, but it's always interesting to see how similar their jump strategies are. His 25 inch achilles probably helped a bit, haha. Great review, Billy.

  • @MadSUPANOVA
    @MadSUPANOVA Před rokem +3

    Height and style plays a big part. Jordan has the best looking style with legs bent back and Zach between the legs has flair. But if it's exactly behind the free-throw line I guess your pick will win, but he's taller than MJ ... and I believe any shorter player that can pull off the same or almost distance is more amazing to watch.

  • @hyper6632
    @hyper6632 Před 5 lety +5

    only 7 people have dunked BEHIND the free-throw line. 2 of them are interestlingly white. They are Jim Dilling and 6'2'' Pat Dickert.
    #3 Zion Williamson, #4 Shelby McEwen, #5 Mike Conley, #6 James White, #7 Serge Ibaka (on the line or not?)
    Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen came very close. Jordan barely touched the line, really not clear, in the late 1980s.
    Rodney Carney attempted the longest dunk humanly possible I think at 3 feet behind free-throw line. He came close and touched the rim. I think Zach LaVine could achieve the longest dunk ever 2 or 3 feet behind the line, so far he hasn't even done a BEHIND the free throw line dunk tho.
    Pat Dickert did a behind the free-throw line dunk extending to his max. If LaVine extended to his max I think he'd be capable of doing the dunk Carney attempted 3 feet behind the line which is as far as a human could ever possibly do it.

    • @itsgoindown92
      @itsgoindown92 Před 6 lety +4

      Dunkademics 2 Less of a curse. More of a he’s terrible under pressure. Seeing every minute of his playtime as an NBA player, he can’t take any pressure at all when it comes to something he’s doing in the US whether it’s a dunk contest or basketball. He psychs himself out and freezes up even though he’s quite talented and not a bad basketball player.

    I totally agree on ur opinion plus the free throw line on courts with FIBA dimensions is actually 15.09 feet away from the Hoop so White basically jumped from 1/2 foot behind the nba ft line

      Is that true? I've never heard that

    • @lolgamer78
      @lolgamer78 Před 6 lety

      Dunkademics 2 It is. The FIBA court dimensions are slightly different from the NBAs.. i guess its cuz they measure everything in m/cm and if they would use the NBA dimensions with in/ft the numbers would be too inaccurate so they adjust them a little. In this case the difference in ft line distance is just a little more than an inch but if we are talking "behind the ft line dunks" i guess that matters.

    @javadkhaleghzadeh5215 Před 6 lety +5

    Thank you so much for your nice video, and argument. In my opinion, there in one very important fact that almost everyone ignores! And that is: Although traveling and double-dribbling are allowed in dunk contests, Michael Jordan never traveled or double-dribbled on a dunk, which makes a dunk remarkably more difficult. All the others did! If he had just palmed the ball and run all the way along the court, he would probably have been able to take off from farther away in his prime. And do not forget that windmills and between-the-legs were not common back then. More recent players, like Vince Carter and the other guys, took the ideas and creativity from the past generations, and added to them their own, and that's why they sometimes seem better than them. If MJ tried windmills and between the legs, there is no proof that he wouldn't have been able to do them.

    • @DunkademicsOfficial
      @DunkademicsOfficial  Před 6 lety +1

      for some people, that's true....but michael jordan has gigantic hands, and can palm the ball easily off the dribble, so it's really not that much of a difference for him to palm it the whole way...it might even be more comfortable for him to dribble it

    • @h-k7804
      @h-k7804 Před 11 měsíci

      shows that jordan had a better chance to free throw dunk in a game cause he always dribbled the ball on his dunks

    • @LongLiveMasterChief
      @LongLiveMasterChief Před 11 měsíci

      Exactly! The level of concentration to dribble and complete that dunk makes it that much more impressive. Then he tops it off with the effortless flying motion. 1:19 is just SICK!!!!! Everyone always pays attention to if a dunker's foot is behind or on the line. To me that means 100 times less than what his body position was at the time of the dunk. If you take off 4 inches behind the line, but end up stretching like Jordan did....that means much less than if you take off on the line, like Lebron did in Cleveland or White here, and end up dunking the ball behind your head and your body position is vertical. To me that means if you took off 1 foot behind the line and stretched you still could have made the dunk. White is just plain sick!

He would stand behind the free throw line, look the defender in the eye and tell him he was going to drive to the right and dunk it, and then go right ahead and do it. I know he did this in the championship game against the trailblazers but I also saw him do it (on TV) against the Sonics and the defender almost pushed him out of bounds on the right but he passed him just by a bit took off behind the basket about 10 feet away and dunked it.

    Obviously James White demonstrates more challenging and creative free throw line dunks. However, context is important. MJ's focus was obviously on his two threepeats, not on the FT line dunk. If MJ even put 2% of his time into further developing his FT line dunk, it would not even be close.

    Wilt Chamberlain dunked free throws WITHOUT A RUNNING START.
    "ALL TIME" did not begin with the invention of video.
    In a Dunk contest, which would win: a Dunk with a full speed running start, or a the same distance dunk done with just a hop, skip gather and no running start.
    Also, since Wilt could do so without running, as a high schooler at that, how much further could dunk from using a full speed running start?
    WILT BEST EVER

      Wilt never did that...it's a myth, like many other "stories" from back then, including David Thompson and Earl Manigault touching the top of the backboard...all fake. That's why there is no video of them even coming close to those feats.

      @@DunkademicsOfficial In a CZcams video titled "Wilt Chamberlain Scouting Video", @ 8:09, one can hear legendary Coach Tex Winter describe watching Wilt dunked his free throws. At the same time, the video shows a picture of a newspaper article from the TOLEDO BLADE. The headline of the article reads:
      That Stilt, Wilt, responsible for rule changes; Kansas Chamberlain even dunked his free throws.
      The subtitle of the article reads:. Hop, step, swish no longer allowed.
      Tex Winter was at that time a rival coach scouting Kansas. When he witnessed Wilt dunked his free throws, he decided to campaign to have NCAA rules changed to disallow it.
      Why would a Coach who also happened to be on the NCAA rules committee want to change a rule to prevent players from doing something noone had ever done? Why would Tex Winter lie and say he witnessed it. To compete with Jordan or James White, who weren't even born yet? Take a look at that video and then say if you need more proof.

    • @DunkademicsOfficial
      @DunkademicsOfficial  Před 5 lety

      It's not that Tex was trying to lie, it's that his definition of "dunking from the free throw line" might be far different than you think. For instance, it could very well mean that Wilt used to jump from the free throw line to get closer to the basket, not actually dunking it, but throwing it through from a few feet away (instead of the full 15 feet)

    White only dribbled once, MJ dribbled all the way to the line. As far as being off center, White, who is approaching at an angle, is just off center enough so that his right shoulder is perfectly aligned with the basket: That's the optimum position! And Jordan on his 87' dunk was about 1 and a half inches over the line. If MJ prioritized dunking over greatness it wouldn't even be close.

    There has only been 7 or 8 legit BEHIND the free throw line dunkers. 2 of them are white interestingly. Jordan is not one of the 7, but his one dunk is really really close, barely touching the line. Ibaka we don't know if he's touching the line or not. Jordan could do it, but we don't have video of it happening. Zach LaVine could do it too, but no video of it. Rodney Carney attempted the longest dunk possible (look for it on youtube), 3 feet behind the line, he came close and touched the rim. That's about as far as is humanly possible but hasn't happened. The longest dunk so far has to be Mike Conley. James White is my favorite tho.
