I had a Peugeot 107 as my first car 8 years back and paid 2080 with a box. Now I'm driving around in a newer shape 107 😂. Will be upgrading to a VW Up which I upgraded. These Ups have so much oem styling parts and wheels which I love compared to the pug plus has better build quality

i think my situation would fit a 2k budget more.. 2001 peugeot 106 for 1280 quid a year in an area where insurance is a tad higher than average. the car cost me 700 so it was less than 2k for the car and insurance. wouldnt completely recommend it for people who arent interested in cars as its far from safe, very barebones and an annoying driving position - but it is easy to work on. no power, no weight, surprisingly nippy and fun. still got it, ive even got another 106 now. on this list, id take the up myself. ive driven a citigo and its quite a fun little thing with what you need and nothing more - do think the up is the best looking of the trio as well.
Had and still got my mk1 focus 1.6 100bhp, £1928 no black box, I live in a rough south east London area, 11 miles from central London. Love the car, it's not everyone's cup of tea but 5dr, spacious boot, reletively quick as well. Cheap parts aswell.
Lol I'm acc jealous, I live in an area of West London with a high crime rate and the cheapest non black box insurance quote I've seen so far is about 5 grand, any tips on getting the quote cheaper?

Diesel volvos are great on fuel and have low road tax rather 30£ or free such as volvo v40 or s60/v60
Well some of these cars, like the aygo have around 0 pound road tax
my mate put a quote in for a Mito QV and it was nearly 9k with a blackbox, I cant find any quotes under 4k on any car without a blackbox and with a blackbox thats nearly as bad
I passed in 1999 , F plate Vauxhall Astra merit 1.3 4 speed was £595 3rd party . Car was £500 to buy.
My daughter passed her test yesterday . We went on comparison sites today and have got fully comprehensive insurance on a 1.6 d Mini Cooper ( 115 bhp) for £775 . No black box . That wax with Hastings essentials insurance. Seems reasonable .

@@alancrisp1582 We certainly get stung over here for fuel and insurance . Cars seem to be cheaper compared to other countries though .
There are many factors that lower the cost.
Thing that matters the most is where you live. Not only the vehicle (keep that in mind)
Age as well. If you turn 18 soon. Put the start date on your birthday.

🤔 This is because you people I am guessing live in a country where vehicle insurance is a legal requirement. So insurance companies can charge you what they like. This is not the case here in New Zealand. 😅

@@dawid6177 If you have personal insurance and are involved in an accident with an uninsured driver, no problem for you in my country. As you will be covered. Some people are prepared to take the gamble, and not take out any private insurance!..

I’d always have the Mii or citigo over the Up!, because theyre too common compared to the other 2 and they are a bit more expensive than the Mii/citigo
You get more kit in the Mii or citigo when compared to a similar priced up.
I just got a quote for the Alfa £8k from Admiral.

Got a 2012 audi a3 1.6l tfsi and only paid like £1176 for my first year with a black(passed my test when i was 18 cause of covid)
As a 17 year old living off an apprenticeship wage of below 1000 a month I want to drive but at this point it would take up most of my wages

Classic JB content, it's probably weird that I find this stuff interesting, considering I've had wine worth more than some of the cars on this list (quick review: diminishing returns...). The only car on this list I'd really mock anyone for buying is the 500, since it's almost literally just a handbag body built over my 1998 Punto first car. By 1998 standards that was a decent first car, but out of this list...yeah, nah. Also the Ka, that gen is one of the least interesting cars ever built.
Of this list, I don't hate any really, but any version of the Up! is super boring. The 108 is my favourite of that group, not just since I'm a mild Pug fanboy, but as first cars they're all decent except the 500/Ka really. Picanto/i10/108/Aygo/C1 are noticeably ahead of the rest though, since they're all slow and cheap, moderately fun and those will be the most reliable. Up! and its siblings let you mock Porsche drivers (Doug DeMuro mainly, but also me) for having multiple shared components...

Looking at a blue 09 Swift 1.5GLX on Friday. Manual with 84,000 miles, 12month MOT and 12month Waranty. They want 3k for it. Do you think that's a good deal?
I wouldn't pay no more than 1700 for a clean one like that. 3k is too high

The three cars I am looking at for my first, with a budget around 5k are: Suzuki swift 2011 onwards, Toyota yaris or a seat ibiza. All quite cheap to insure and run without being dead slow.
