I love Arabians and grew up showing them. But this makes me sad. More than half of these horses coming in are behind the vertical and not even doing a true jog, it’s more of a sped up walk because they are too afraid to actually move forward more. That doesn’t show real hind end engagement to me. The judges should reconsider what standard they are setting.

They're all so beautiful. I know they're supposed to look like that. It's just a me thing but I'm really uncomfortable seeing them hold their heads so low. I just equate Arabians with that proud head held high stance.

They're all behind the bit. There's no practical reason for that head stance. It's all about fashion. (Still, as you say, they are beautiful horses.)

Highest point in collection is supposed to be the poll, not the third vertebrae. And the lope is still a three beat gait. Some of them trotted in front and just hopped in the back. Sad. BUT...at least they are not resembling the Walking Dead like some other breeds in Western Pleasure.

I do have a question though if anyone can answer. I used to show Arabians many moon's ago and I'd wrap up my show horses tail's and any mare's tail also as foal's love tail's for some reason. I only competed in halter classes and my halter show horses all had a beautiful long flowing tail's but I've noticed more these that halter horses tail's sometimes looked chewed or just short so why do halter horses have mostly shorter tail's but the saddle horses competing in Western and Costume have gloriously gorgeous tail's but in saying that I'm in no means putting them down there absolutely stunning but I'm generally interested in knowing if there could be a reason why.

The colors are sometimes unusual because they've been body clipped.
I showed Arabs for a living in the late 80s-90s and our horses moved better. They didn't 4 beat at the lope or "wog". Most of these horses are too broken at the 3rd cervical vertebrae, are not carrying themselves - their hindquarters are trailing out behind them - a biomechanical fiasco! They are headed toward the tragedy that is the AQHA WP scene. So sad!

Who in their right mind would ride a horse whose tail drags like that? It would have to be tied up if they were going anywhere out of doors, and is probably braided or tied up somehow when they're in their stalls, which makes for a clumsy fly swatter. I've loved Arabians since the 60s when I got my dream horse, a half Arab. (Couldn't afford a purebred!) It makes me sick to see these weird fads turning a great horse into a laughingstock.

    • @MagnificentHorses

@@DonnaMcMasterRiver that's fine if you prefer a shorter tail but I wouldn't go so far as to say these amazing horses are a laughingstock because they have long tails.

@@MagnificentHorses I apologize if I am being offensive. Having done video editing myself, I can see that you’ve done a tremendous job of capturing and sharing the images of the event, and most of the horses are quite beautiful to watch. I’m grateful for the videos.
But the dragging tails, especially on horses ridden “western” style really are ludicrous. Having grown up riding in cattle county in NE Oregon, I shudder at the thought of those tails being dragged through dirt, dust, weeds, stubble, cockleburrs, and cow manure, and I can just see them collecting trains of tumbleweeds. No one would consider riding a working horse with a tail like that, and even a well-maintained trail through open space reserves is going to decorate those dragging tails with a generous serving of debris.
So the tails get braided or bagged up, and the horse has been robbed of a functional fly swatter. If only a few contestants had the extra long tails, I wouldn’t have posted, but it’s clear that these people all believe that it’s a requirement if they are to have a chance of winning. I find it baffling and sad. I appreciate your response, and I’ll try to stay off my soapbox going forward.
