    Wogan was a bbc man. I’d imagine that not only did he have the backing of, but was also, most likely encouraged by the bigwigs within the corporation.
    Still, mucho respect, it’s a brave man who risks the wrath of Murdoch, ask John Major, Richard Keys or Andy Gray. Murdoch has an exquisite reputation for always coming out on top, always backing the winning side, no matter if it conflicts with his personal political outlook, ask Donald Trump who quickly became persona non grata when it became evident what way the tide was moving.
    Not the worst judgement anyone has ever made in fairness.

    I don’t like Rupert Murdoch nor do I like his views, but goddammit, if he is not pretty well spoken for someone who is well known to be irreverent and he does have a good speaking voice. I can understand why many people like him now.

    The error in his model is the error of neoliberalism more broadly. He believes that giving people choice means they will select what is best for themselves. If you ask a child if they want chocolate or a maths lesson at school, you know the result. Adults are not entirely different. We want a rich experience, but we know we will succumb to preferring a horror movie over a deeper film, we act on impulse. Murdoch exploits this impulse, destroys society, whilst cheering that he is giving people what is best for society. No Murdoch. You should be given far air-time used to educate and inspire us, without the drug-like impulse and cash spinning adverts. My sister works in the advertising industry and they have the term meaning the real content and another term “fillers”. What do you imagine these refer to? Well the customer of the media is the advertiser and you are the product, so when they use the term filler they mean the main programme designed to get your attention, and the real content - what brings in all the money - is the advertising.

      @NoreenHoltzen Před rokem

      @@dusk1234567890Don’t get me wrong, the choice should be our own what to watch. But neoliberalism isn’t about choice, but rather directing us to content that gets us more hooked. If I give you a choice between cocaine and vegetables, pretty soon you will go for the first. Does that mean it is your choice? Actually the vegetables are not even included in our media so we don’t even have that choice. What we view as a choice is profoundly limited.

    Terry Wogan was very caustic with Murdoch here. Murdoch is having the last laugh, where Sky TV is now in 10 million homes and making millions in profit.
