One of my all time favorites. When I was in 7th grade my teacher was told to give us “How to kill a mockingbird”. She went against the curriculum and gave us The Outsiders. I’m glad she did.
I’ve taught both, and both are great, but it’s got to be horses for courses. Mockingbird is dense, and kids can be easily put off. The Outsiders gets kids in. Another is Across the Barricades. With mockingbird the themes are the important element, so I watch them movie with the kids if I don’t think it’s going to be read.
“He’s just a kid.” Man that’s heartbreaking. When he died in the book, I was like damn man Johnny and dally both. But after watching the movie, it was even more sad, they really nailed this scene down.
Don't understand the fixation with this movie? Root for the bad guys because they're poor or don't have fathers. ? 1 murder and an armed robbery! They ARE the bad guys! Fuck Johnny. He murdered a teen because he couldn't fight?
Store owner probably had a wife and kids. His friend, who stabbed a teenager to death , died from burns or smoke inhalación . So, I'm supposed to feel empathy for this character for armed robbery.?+ Remember when you dad said " stay away from that kid"? He was talking about Dally.
Dallas Winston wanted to die because he had loved Johnny more than anyone else and cared about Johnny and Johnny had died and Dally had to do something.
The first time I read the book, I was just in complete shock over Johnny’s death. Given how Dally cared about him so much I didn’t realized that he got himself killed not too long afterwards. And when Ponyboy read Johnny’s letter, I was just like “man, why did Dally have to die too? That just makes the ending even more heartbreaking.” It’s kind of annoying when two characters that are fan-favorites die back-to-back. But watching the movie for the first time made Dally’s death way more heartbreaking than it was in the book.
Same I was watching this movie in 6th grade and a girl said he can’t die he’s so fine and it totally ruined the sad atmosphere we were all like why would you say that? While laughing
The store clerk is William Smith, In a much more unassuming role than when he tangled with Clint in Any Which Way You Can. He was Conan’s father, too (Arnold in Conan the Barbarian).
“A rumble ain’t a rumble without me!!!” Poor Dally had no hope left and nowhere to turn after Johnny died. His grief and hopelessness overwhelmed him. If Johnny couldn’t make it, as good as he was, what chance did he have?
i was in school and my teacher gave us this book to read when i went to my next class my my other teacher started to play a video for us and sure enough it was the outsiders i was thinking oh my two reports on the same movie i passed with flying colors.

I kinda wanted the role of Dallas Winston to go to William Zabka, because he's the only actor I can think of for this character due to how Dallas was described in the book version.
In all seriousness (from their perspective) the cops had every right to shoot Dallas cause he was armed and pointing the gun at them (despite it not being loaded), but why did they shoot him an extra 3 more times? Usually from what I’ve seen in real cop shootouts, once the suspect is completely down after getting shot, they stop firing and try to move in and arrest them.
Yeah, that was completely unnecessary. Even if the gun was loaded, by the time Dallas was on the ground, he was of no immediate threat and they should've just cuffed him, read him his rights and called in the medics.
@@LostClowder Umm...I hate to break it to you...because has it occurred to you that this whole thing was deliberate on the part of Dally. He wanted the cops to shoot him. It's called 'suicide by cop;
@LoneWolf1974 I'm well aware of what Dallas was attempting, mate. I'm simply stating that from the perspective of the police, it was completely unnecessary for them to shoot him three more times after he was already shot to the ground.
@@JakobBrogdon-vl4rj i can agree on the fall part, but the police didn’t come yet until after he made the phone call. Appreciate the answer though dude 🤝🏾😎
Well can you blame the cops? They hadn’t known Dally was bluffing. They didn’t know it wasn’t loaded, and once Dally pulled the gun out, he is now a threat. Those cops are entitled to see their families like everyone else, they weren’t gonna take chances.
@@alicialandis3288 Either way, they have families they have the right to go back to their families. They were acting correctly, he pulled a gun, the officers don’t know its not loaded, a gun is a lethal weapon and can cause harm, they weren’t gonna take any chances and did everything they did that was right.
@@alicialandis3288 Why would he do that? He knew what he was doing. He was trying to get himself killed. It wouldn’t make sense either because he pulled it out and aimed it at the cops. And just says “oh it’s not loaded”, he pulled it out in a manner as if it was loaded. How ever you pull it out and do, you still get shot. 60s police aren’t different they do the same today as well. If you payed attention in the book. It said “it’s what he wanted.”
