@@Flowesomecat same reasons people do it in real life? societal pressures, family pressures, religious pressures ect. alot of people put too much weight on the idea that to be happy a child must remain with the birth parents particularly the mother. So much so it takes a literal track record of abuse/neglect for a child to be taken away, society as a whole needs to have proper sex education and realize not every single damn woman or couple is ready/wanting to have kids so they shouldn't be judged for taking options B or C.

My theory she can’t fly is on account of her father being an earth pony. She might of inherit a bit of his earth pony muscle which makes her heavier than the average Pegasus her age and to top it off was that her wings were born too short which could also be from the earth pony genes.
So my head canon is that ponies who have two different tribes of pony as parents (e.g. an earth pony and Pegasus, an earth pony and unicorn, etc.) that the said child has a probability to struggle with a certain aspect of that tribe’s natural talent ( magic, strength, and of course flight). So if that is the cause a doctor would of inform the parents of this before the baby’s birth. The reason Scootaloo might be unaware of this knowledge is if her parents didn’t tell anyone and/or didn’t want to tell to make her feel bad.

I've hated them since day 1. I agree with every single point and hate them so much. Scootaloo deserved much better throughout the series. I'm possibly reading into it too much, but the neglect can actually explain a lot about Scootaloo's character in the series. The reason she admires, clings, and wants to be around Rainbow so much is because of the lack of a consistent parental figure in her life. Rainbow is the first permanent family she can have, so she will subconsciously cling to it. Because of this admiration, it explains why she is so set to fly and would probably blame that on her parents' disappearance. As someone who has gone through a very similar situation, you still have that feeling in the back of your mind. She wants to prove herself capable because of her fear of those leaving as her parents have. It can really weigh on you.

ALSO I FORGOT TO POINT THIS OUT: I like how, in order to try and paint Scootaloo’s parents better, they had to make Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty’s arragement seem worse than it actually is.
Like yeah, they’re only in Ponyville for the weekend, but they take care of her, and they don’t live far away so Scootaloo can visit them whenever. The people that babysit her throughout the week also take care of her and love her.
Is it less than ideal? Yes. But you know what? A lot of kids IRL are in a similar situation. And as non-ideal it looks, it still works because the caretakers have a set routine the child can follow, and oh yeah, THEY ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE CHILD IN QUESTION!
The episode could’ve been good, it could’ve brought attention to how not all deadbeat parents are 100% sociopathic trash heaps. Sometimes deadbeat parents are genuinely good people in other aspects, but it’s just painfully clear that their child is not the most important thing in their lives.

I honestly think Scootaloo was an accident baby. Her parents did not plan on having her, but they went ahead and did, leaving their jobs to have her than going right back to what they love doing. They may still love their daughter...but no where near as much as their jobs.
That's why they leave Scootaloo with her aunts, who do care for her and clearly stay involved in her life as much as possible, had they lived in Ponyvile before, you bet Scoota would be living with them already.
What makes everything sadder is, this happens in real life too. Parents may care for their child, but give up their jobs and prefer someone else raising their child...while still caring, or somewhat loving their child for being their child...they dont care enough to be with their child and keep doing a job that takes all their time and attention away...

I agree with you that Scootaloo's parents aren't the best. Looking through the comments, most people are assuming that they care more about their job more than their child without thinking about the situation they had to leave her with her aunts. Maybe something like a virus or wild creature threatened to destroy Equestria or something and they were called in to contain it or stop it. There are still unknown details. And of course, you can't explain everything or get that from just one episode. It's possible, but it would be hard to. And besides, it seems like the team behind this episode was trying to make the parents seem good but not overly aware, and if what I theorize was the reason why they left Scootaloo behind, it was probably cut because they couldn't flesh it out, or it took away from the plot of the episode. And remember, the storyboarders can't do everything perfectly.

@@joshuayonemura2572 i agree that work MAY get into the way of family, HOWEVER... it should only be temporary. And even if there was some sort of danger, perhaps they should have thought about that before having a child at all. Since it looks like they haven’t seen her in such a long time, probably years, they didn’t put the effort to be a part of her life AT ALL. If they truly loved her, even if they were the “only ones good enough to do the job”, they could have asked for more people to take over, or, even better , TEACH others how they do their job so they could leave and spend time with her more often, even if they still worked there . They could have made it work between them as a family, but they didn’t. It gets worse when you hear them say at the end of the episode that they left Scootaloo because they loved their job too much. It just reads as “I love my career more than my own child”, and is wrong on so many levels. It’s why so many people these days are much more vocal about not having children, because they don’t feel like they would make good parents, or just don’t want kids. See, the second the child is born, the well-being of your children should always come first, regardless of what you think of them, if you wanted them, or what their personality is. Everything in your life gets moved to the side. That’s an entire human being who depends on you. Scootaloo’s parents are an example of parents who put their job first, and their child second, or last. The fact that they just suddenly came back but didn’t care about her feelings (both in that episode and the comic) just shows that she was just really an afterthought to them. It was as if they just remembered she existed and was like “oh yea, we had a kid. I think we’re supposed be together? Idk” and took her away.

I wouldn't be surprised if if let's say MLP did a comic series of season 11, where it centers around all of the MLP cast being older like at the end of season 9, that Scootaloo would hold a resentment towards her parents. A lot of children always see their parents as the best thing in the world even though the parents could be the worst possible people ever. So as a kid you always want to say that "my parents did this amazing thing" or "my parents are the best at this" while in reality they're not. And when those children grow up they usually see how their parents are not as perfect as they seemed. So yea I can totally see that when she grows older she would have a resentment towards her parents.

Yeah, I agree these parents are really bad, caring about their job more then their daughter’s happiness is bad at best. What made them worst is that they don’t try to explain why to their daughter, or try to dry her tears when she is clearly upset about that. They just drop in after how many months or years, make this life altering decision, and not care with what their daughter has to say! They are not Timmy turner’s parents level of bad, but they are one of the worst of the show.

    THIS VIDEO IS EVERYTHING...
I think a lot of people (including the writers) tend to not recognize the pattern neglect or abuse people like Scoots' biological parents lay down. A lot of people really go to the ends of the earth to defend parents like this simply because "oh but job important!" or things like that, trying to make others really sympathize with the parents... but it's always odd to me that people never think of the kid, yet somehow the child is always blamed.
Unlike children who can usually hold no legal power, let alone power in general, Parents do have those rights as a legal adult. They are able to make more choices that can and *should* be more understanding of their child, but more often the not, the child is still put as the center of blame. "You're just not understanding enough." "You're parents really do love you, they just have important things to do." Things like that are commonly said by other non-involved parties and sometimes even the parents. This could even be categorized under gaslighting if put into the right context. It's only natural a child would feel unloved if their parent's practically insist on stay as far away from them as possible or flat-out ignoring their feelings. Telling the child they are misguided or being too dramatic to make them second guess their own judgement very well *can* be gaslighting.
There's so much more I could go one about, but I don't want to write a whole essay.
Sadly, this relationship for Scootaloo and her parents can become all too real for people in real life. Pretending things like this are normal or okay and that you should just "be more understanding" may under mind a lot of neglected children's feelings and it worries me that it's so normalizied nowadays.
Anyway, great video! I enjoyed it and I agree with all your points!

the fact that they basically abandoned her means that they didnt want her. when scoots was born she was a mistake cuz she was born when the parents were having "fun", and well unlike most parents they didnt want to give that up, so they just use money to take care of her. i bet thats why she even lives in ponyvile, cuz the town is so small that everyone knows everyone unlike in the cites where criminals tend to live (and im not counting the world ending ones) ppl will know if this kid gets snatched or hurt by someone.

  • @j.c.2240
    @j.c.2240 Před 3 lety +6

Something to consider for the prosecution: why couldn't Scoot's parents take turns on their deployments? Characters like A.K. Yearling clearly show that there are other adventuring ponies, Fluttershy mentioned a society focused on the conservation and study of rare creatures, meaning there are a lot of ponies with animal handling skills, and do I even need to say anything about Zecora's and Meadowbrook's extensive knowledge of plants? Or the entire Kirin society's close ties to trees?
Bottom line, there was an option to give Scoot some kind of parental consistency besides being watched over by the entire town. There was an option to have at least one parent present at all times, one that didn't require either of them to quit. There was something they could have done to be present in their kid's life, but it can only be assumed that they chose not to for whatever reason.

    OBJECTION!!!!
We've already SEEN that, though cutie Mark's CAN be loosely interpreted, in some instances, in order to allow for slight leeway, in, a ponies " destiny " , they ARE an objectively important force, in, determining a ponies life path.
As we saw with the hearts desire and cutiepox, a pony CAN be made, to act out a cutie mark.
As we saw with twilights accidental cutie mark swapping spell, a swapped cutie mark CAN influence ponies, to act accordingly.
As we saw with starlight glimmer and the feuding princesses, a cutie mark swap CAN force others, into being better at specific tasks, of, having to follow a different schedule.
There is no reason, in context, that, scootaloo's " birth parents" , within the context of this world, can be claimed for prioritizing there work, in forms nessessairy, over spending time with scootaloo, as, trying to deny there lifes work, would likely leave them depressed, miserable rejects, unable to form as close a bond with there daughter, as, most of the other ponies in ponyville, already have anyway. : (

While I absolutely agree, leaving a young child with little to no care is still harmful, and they could have done a lot more to help their situation, such as simply giving Scootaloo to her aunts, who seem much more happy to adopt Scootaloo as their own, rather than stringing together lies and false hope, which can lead their daughter to be mentally scarred and could result in mental problems.
It has even been shown in the show that it already has, such as her clinginess to Rainbow being her older sister, and shock of how supportive Rainbow's parents are.
It was irresponsible for them to say they will keep their daughter when unfit to care for her, and then when finally deciding to take care of her, taking her to a hostile environment and possibly still being away from her, and leaving her with more strangers to care for her.

    • @jimcable9689
      @jimcable9689 Před 3 lety +2

@@lord__pasta didn't they say they were going to shangra la, aka, where the kirin were? While the surrounding area is pretty wild, the village its self seems nice and peaceful.
They could have literally been looking for such a place, where scootaloo would be safe, but, they could still do there research, via show logic, and, have just been ignorant to how much had changed, never staying in one place long enough, to understand the old adage " every day is an adventure".
I mean.... it's not like several of the events they mentioned, for new dangers, had " nothing" to do with ponyville.
Taking scoots somewhere far from the potential conflict, even with wild animals, does seem like one of those " parent moves" , where, they understand the risk of physical danger, but, not emotional balance .
After all, we're talking about a world that NEEDS a " school of friendship" , and, still has people like chancellor neigh say. The fact that there isnt really a culture for handling emotions and conflict in equestria, easily explains these parents actions. It's just still nice, to see they actually listen to others, when the situation is " down to the wire".
However, the fact that they reversed the decision, without asking anyone to " keep her safe" , at the end , DOES, kinda.... well, it undercuts such initial reasoning. : /
