The M6 is the easiest BMW M to buy in 2023, but...

  • In today's video, I will be going over everything I think a potential future new F chassis M6 or F10 M5 owner should know before making the choice to purchase the car. Please forgive some of the errors, I filmed this in the middle of nowhere by myself so I couldn't see how wobbly some of the footage was or how bad some of the audio was until I got home. Nevertheless, I feel like I got my point across!

    You may have missed out on a few maintenance/ addressable issues on these cars. 1 - If you launch these they will eventually snap the rear axles. 2 - The diff mounts love to break on these cars destroying the diff and the driveshaft. 3 - Valve stem seals usually go bad if you are in a climate that shifts dramatically across the year. 4 - Clutch packs will slip eventually on any tuned car ( literally the same clutch packs as the E92 m3 though the e92 produces half the amount of torque). Lastly 5 - Intercooler housing splitting. Again this is usually happens from heat cycling with massive weather shifts throughout years.

    • @danieljadorie829
      @danieljadorie829 Před 8 měsíci +17

      It is wild how this car can share clutch packs with the E92 M3. One would think it would share them with the M5, unless they have different setups.

    Agreed, just replace the rod bearings every 50k miles - they are simply consumable items on any M car. With regards to failing injectors - there's more noise about it than real failures - but again, those can be replaced and one BOSCH injector for pre-LCI M5/M6 is about 100$... so 800$ + labor. If you can't spend that for preventative maintenance, then don't buy an M car in the first place

    • @f32_boost52
      @f32_boost52 Před 8 měsíci +11

      You can literally get a set of better rod bearings and never have to touch them again. They're not consumable. King, BE, and VAC all offer bearings that fix the bearing issue.

    • @alfworks
      @alfworks Před 8 měsíci

      @@f32_boost52 that's nice to hear and I'm not arguing, but if we're talking S63, have not heard about anyone who would have used after market and drove 60k+ miles on them to be able to check the condition. I frankly would check even the after market ones, after that mileage

    • @f32_boost52
      @f32_boost52 Před 8 měsíci +5

      @alfworks if you look at Carbahn's built motors for S63, they use a coated motorsport bearing. They are made for repeated abuse. As are the other bearings I mentioned. The B58 came from thr factory with coated bearings and have already shown that they are extremely reliable. BMWs history with rod bearing issues came down to clearance, too thick of oil and bad bearing design. All new gen motors finally got it right.

    • @993mike
      @993mike Před 8 měsíci +5

      With BMW M motors and their tight tolerances, you MUST follow procedure to warm the oil before driving hard - period. I drive my E92 M3 I bought new like a grandma never going above 3K rpm until the oil is up to temp. I’ve been using Steve Dinan’s CarBahn shop for service and mods forever, and he told me years ago that if you follow that procedure plus regular oil changes using the correct oil you’ll get at least 80K miles out of OEM rod bearings, and my Blackstone numbers when tested are always perfect. It’s also the same for my 991.2 GT3 - always fully warm these type of cars before matting the pedal.

    • @f32_boost52
      @f32_boost52 Před 8 měsíci +3

      @993mike warming up any car is imperative in my opinion but still, the OEM bearings shit the bed at 80k miles. Pretty terrible lol. Aftermarket bearings are the way to go.

    Man I loved this car and I ended up having one for about a year but the one problem is that no one really makes videos on is they have an electrical problem that BMW knows about and actually sells a kit that has a part number to fix it but it causes the car to completely shut off on you misfire and it acts like it has no power at all that issue turns into more issues because it destroys some of the sensors in the engine and it becomes alot larger of an issue overtime.
    But for the money the power is absolutely amazing just be ready to shell out a ton of money for repairs because even though the car is $80,000 off MSRP the replacement parts are definitely not cheap!

      I had stage 3 DME tune with 93octane 23lbs of boost , made from 650-670 whp , 4th gear was slipping on a pull .
      Now I have fully built engine , PG intakes and charge coolers , Fabworx dps , Akara exhaust, XHP stage 3 trans tune with SSP spec R clutches, stage 1 pure turbos , Methanol injection , JB4 for logging ,Meth control & 3 map changes , to 28psi , makes 860whp on Mustang dyno , I can go higher in boost but the intakes can split at 32-35psi so I keep it safe , you have to pull the engine to
      change the intakes , ask me how I know 😂

    Honestly, it’s a great looking car. But at 8+ years old it just ain’t it for me. I get it was worth 140k at one point, but paying 45k for a decade old bmw just doesn’t seem right. You can get a 2022 m340i right now for about the same price, with better performance and a warranty. The m340i is half a second faster 0-60 as well. 3.8 vs 4.3. So I just struggle with this car being a good option with so many alternatives. The m6 may be more luxurious than the m340i, but we’re talking about decade old luxury. Just ain’t the same

    • @EthanYorke
      @EthanYorke  Před 8 měsíci +3

      Few things I’d like to counter here: You definitely cannot get an M340i for around the same price, my car was on the high side of pricing for M6’s of this age and the cheapest 22 M340i’s around are pushing $50,000 with low, undesirable option sheets. You’re also comparing a pre LCI car (G20) to a LCI car (F06). The 22 340 already looks extremely dated compared to the LCI 23+ models, the F06 has a timeless interior without any gimmicks to make it show its age. Also, there are a million cars with the 340i recipe. TLX Type S, C43 AMG, whatever Audi makes, Supra, etc. I’m not trying to put those cars down, but there is VERY little that compares to the M6. Certainly not Acuras and Toyotas.
      Most people buying an M6 know exactly what they want, I’d imagine. If an M6 doesn’t make sense to you, it’s not the car for you. But if you want something with Bentley-esque levels of luxury that still kicks the ass out like a proper M car, the M5 or the M6 is really your only option. I didn’t really care what the cost was, I was going to buy one at some point in my life regardless.

    • @fr00bers
      @fr00bers Před 8 měsíci

      @@EthanYorke Nah, theres actually nothing out there that compares to the m340i in terms of performance for the money. Look at all the reviews, they are raving about the 340. Most of the reviews Ive read about the 2015 M6 are...uninspiring to say the least. I cant even believe you tried to compare a TLX to a M340i....a TLX is a front wheel drive car and has much less HP/torque. The only 340s that are 50k+ plus are the brand new ones and the ones that are all wheel drive (x drive), which is actually the less desirable option if youre into a real sports sedan which are rear wheel drive. The other cars you mentioned, C43 is 60k plus, so no thats not a comparison. Although the performance is similar between a c43 and m340i the price range is about 10-15k more for the c43. Supra is also not even comparable, its not a luxury sports sedan, its just a compact sports car. The Audi comparison to the M340i is the rs3 and that car is 65k but doesnt perform as well. I just find it hilarious that you compare the m340i to Acuras and Toyotas. We get it, you like your M6, but theres a reason its selling for 30k after being 100k+. You well overpaid. Im looking at a 2015 M6 with 76k miles right now for 32k lmao. I can send you the link if you want? its selling in West Palm beach right now. You can call the dealer at 561-867-2090 if you want to inquire about it. To me it seems like you well overpaid, even if you dont live in Florida you can get this car shipped out to you for less than 1k. M6 doesnt have the looks, performance, OR reliability. You can lie to yourself but you cant lie to me pal.

      From my understanding, the injectors are an early car (2013,2014) issue so getting anything newer than that would help you avoid that. As far as rod bearings, it’s an extra $35 to have your oil tested after each oil change. If you keep an eye on the oil test results and treat the car properly, I don’t think you’d need to replace the rod bearings for quite some time. I’m about to send out my oil for the second time, will make an update video with the results

    • @EthanYorke
      @EthanYorke  Před 8 měsíci +1

      You’re way off the mark here. Do you understand that leasing a $140,000 car comes with a payment anywhere from $1,500 to over $2,000 a month? Not to mention needing to put down 5 figures to qualify. With an $800 payment on this car, I’d have to spend $14,000 a year on service to equal out to what a lease on the newer equivalent model would be. If you think this car costs anywhere near $14,000 a year to keep running, you’ve been severely misguided.

      I don't know much about engines, but I'd get the B58. It's not only reliable, but has massive tuning potential. You could tune it to be as powerful as the stock M6 in this video and it will be more reliable.
      It's considered one of the most reliable modern BMW engines, but the owners at least.
      It's the same engine used in one of Toyotas Supras. I think the Mark 5. I'd for for the newer Gen in the B58TU or B58TU2.
      I believe those versions are in your 2019 and later 340i's, 440i's and SUV's.
