- Max Bruch (6 January 1838 - 2 October 1920) was a German Romantic composer, teacher, and conductor who wrote over 200 works, including three violin concertos, the first of which has become a staple of the violin repertoire.

This is very pleasing to one’s ears.
That first movement is super strong, I love it.
The Scherzo is some of the most invigorating stuff I've ever heard.
Une symphonie très agréable à écouter. Le thème à 04:23 repris au 3ème mouvement (17:24, en mi b mineur aux altos) est superbe. C'est celui d'une tristesse délicatement consolée. Le scherzo du 2ème mouvement est vigoureux. C'est le genre de mélodie qui reste en tête pour stimuler un effort physique.
This shows that Bruch's violin concerto was not a fluke.

Das 1. Violinkonzert g moll erlebte ich mit einer professionellen Geigerin als Solistin mit einem Amateur-Orchester. Nie im Konzertsaal.
You could probably pass this off for Brahms 2nd and fool more than a few. The themes and cadence are not that far apart.

Mahler schrieb zwar gerne ab, aber hauptsächlich von sich selbst. Die paar Bässe am Symphonie-Anfang haben keinerlei Ähnlichkeit zu Mahlers erster Symphonie!
Bruch didn't give you anything not to like. This could easily be mistaken for Brahm's previously undiscovered 5th, or something. 🤔
