      Awesome, welcome aboard! Let me know if there's anything that you see in the market that doesn't make sense to you. Probably would be good topics for future videos.

      @@jamescardsfc I think my first question would be around grading. With PSA starting at $50 for non-members do you think it wise to submit modern RCs like Gavi, Elanga, David, etc.? I worry also my cards will not return before the World Cup. I'll think of more.
      *edit* specifically referred to submitting refractor parallels etc. Like my Gavi 1 of 199 and Elanga 1 of 99.

    • @jamescardsfc
      @jamescardsfc  Před 2 lety +1

      Good question. Probably a good idea to build out a video specifically on grading strategy.
      In short I would say this:
      At the $50 level, you're very likely to get cards back by the World Cup. PSA is currently on a 2-3 month turnaround maximum at that level.
      If your planned exit point is around World Cup time, then yes it's probably a good idea to send those in. And you're correct that you should only be sending in things like numbered refractor parallels at the $50 level.
      However, guys like Elanga who will not be present at the World Cup, you may not want to send in at $50. Just depends on what your plan is with his cards. If you want to churn and burn and try to build capital while maybe not holding until an Elanga market peak, then yeah, $50 can still make sense for him. Pay the $50 fee, get it back in a few months, sell immediately at a slight premium (assuming your grading results went as expected), and move onto the next thing.
      But if you're in no rush and want to hold Elanga stuff for longer than the World Cup, it's probably a better idea to wait until PSA offers cheaper grading with slower turnarounds. Because if you're not in a rush to move it, why pay more than you have to?

      @@jamescardsfc Great Point, James. Much appreciated. I am a content creator myself and do not want to overburden you with requests but here are a few questions or topics for you to consider but i'm hooked regardless. 1. Grading for the World Cup vs Holding (which you explained). 2. Upcoming Panini Mosaic Road to World Cup (premium set going into the cup coming up) 3. Pro's and Cons of buying teams/player card breaks on eBay, etc. 4. Women's Soccer (I know..) But Topps Chrome has a 100 checklist set out and typically first issues of sets do well and hold value? (Thinking back to initial Basketball Topps Chrome for instance). 5. MLS Clubs/Players...any value in that? Thank You.

    I am new to soccer cards collecting and mainly buying players I like. I don't speculate, but I am into legends like Beckham, Rooney, Cr7 etc. What I observe is these players cards prices just keep dropping lower n lower.. In the end, while I buy for my love n hobby, I can't help but feel sad my collection are just dropping in value

    awesome video man, just getting back into soccer after not being interested since Fifa 14 & starting to build a collection. Ordered 2 packs to start with & gonna look through the market for some possible steals ahead of the world cup. You have any suggestions or tips for the best way to invest heading into Qatar 2022?? Just been thinking rookie world cup cards are a safe bet to do decently

  • @klevene1
    @klevene1 Před 2 lety +1

    Great video. I have been collecting soccer for about 6 months. I find that there are huge differences between vintage/pre-modern and modern/ultra modern. The earlier stuff is more limited and therefore easier to understand but I don't know if it has the growth potential of modern/ultra modern with all of the newer soccer fans, media attention, US growth etc. The problem with modern/ultra modern is that it's extremely hard to navigate with so much different product released. You have too many parallels and numbered cards in the standard releases or you have some of these "luxury" releases that command super high prices and entry points. How best to navigate or approach collecting modern/ultra? Also, what is your take on the patch auto trend? These are a couple of my suggestions for future videos. Thanks!

    • @jamescardsfc
      @jamescardsfc  Před 2 lety +2

      These are great questions and I 100% agree the ultra modern market is by far the hardest to navigate.
      Short answers with videos to come:
      How to approach ultra modern:
      It is my belief that a very limited number of sets will rise to the top and be relevant in the mainstream market. Otherwise the market is way too difficult to understand. For that reason, I really like Topps Chrome + Sapphire, because although they are now cluttered with parallels, they are still the flagship releases. I highly doubt there's a scenario where Merlin or Stadium Club or something else becomes more widely known and engaged with than the flagship set. Same logic applies to Prizm World Cup sets.
      There's just way too many product lines out there for any casual market participant to understand, so I believe the flagship sets will be the way to go. The easier to understand, the better.
      Patch Auto Trend:
      Unless the patches are match worn and the autos are on card, I think this is a big bubble. Panini/Topps could create non match worn patch + sticker auto cards into eternity. There are a very limited number of sets with match worn patches + on card autos. It takes a lot of coordination and care to produce products like that, and Panini/Topps have shown over recent years they don't have the desire to continue with those types of products.
