    For the longest time I was told that nails needed to “breathe” in order to grow. Now I don’t even know what to believe anymore

    • @BellieRose
      @BellieRose Před rokem +178

      There's different kinds of nails. My cousin's have thick nails that they can grow this long without doing anything. I however have thin nails, thinner than a blade, which is why a simple slide of my nails on anyone's flesh can cut their skin. 😅 Thin means I can't make them grow longer than 4mm. The only time I was able to make my nails grow was when I was still pregnant, coz during pregnancy our nails gets stronger. After I gave birth, it all went away. My only option is to use press-on nails or this way, which is to use a rubber base.

    • @mariannnnnnna
      @mariannnnnnna Před rokem +137

      Your nails don't need to breathe, they're dead. Basically, gel or normal polish add a layer of protection to your nails and keeps them from breaking more easily.

      I realized mine grow super fast when it's protected by gel polish. So if i do gel polish back to back for a month i have so much length.

  • @Katz_Pajamas
    @Katz_Pajamas Před rokem +505

    So the trick to helping them grow and stay long is a good strong apex. Focus on that mainly. This is why some people can more easily grow their nails longer than others if they already have a natural curve and thickness to the apex. But using products like this where you can build it up a little bit more will help even if you don't have it naturally. A good tip to remember is that the longer they grow, the thicker the apex should be in order to sustain the length. Just make sure it doesn't go past the free edge, and don't over thicken the very tip of the nails. This can make it heavy there and cause pressure at the apex, then it could break off. Balance is key.

    • @carli4963
      @carli4963 Před rokem +7

      Yes an apex u are right so I'm learning at home just as one my hobbies and for months they would lift and pop off right after I did them some times just hours after I did them till I learned about APEX and bam now they never come off huge difference when u focus on that

      When your nails get long enough do you recommend applying a thin layer of gel on the underside of the nail?

    • @Katz_Pajamas
      @Katz_Pajamas Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@MonsterrBunneh free edge is the part of the nail that extends past the finger tip. So you don't want to thicken the free edge with product bcuz it can't support weight and could break. When building apex (the thicker "hump" or natural curve in the middle of the nail) you don't want to go past the free edge or past the finger tip

    • @Katz_Pajamas
      @Katz_Pajamas Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@itsmekiki6508 yes, whether using just nail polish, or a gel, it's good to cap the entire nail all the way to the underside so that it seals, or encapsulates, the whole nail and makes the manicure last longer. I like to use a rubber base gel on my natural nails when they get long bcuz it sort of flexes along with your nail and absorbs everyday impact to prevent breaks/cracks. I always do underneath the nail but I try not to make that too thick, especially on the very tip bcuz you don't want heavy tips. Heavy/thick tips will cause the nail to break off. Last I use a thin gel no-wipe top coat.

    wish to god I could find a nail tech in my area with a grounding in Russian techniques. gotta drive 40 minutes just to find someone who can do stilettos that aren’t lumpy, forget about all the cuticle care 😭

    • @cosmicmuffin322
      @cosmicmuffin322 Před rokem +23

      Russian manicures are terrible for cuticles. They get that "clean" look by basically obliterating the cuticle. You can tell by the red inflamed look that cuticles have in so many videos. Cuticles should never have an efile used on them or massive trimming with cuticle scissors. Most people just need them pushed back gently. Cuticles exist for a reason - to protect your nail bed from infection, and a Russian manicure pulls the cuticle off the nail plate and removes way too much. It's not healthy at all.

      Well, hate to burst your bubbles (no pun intended but that is funny) the last 4 months I have had over 12 ER patients with horrific cuticles that are inflamed and infected to the point that an oral antibiotic and a topical were required and every complaint charted indicated a “Russian Manicure”, now that does NOT mean it was a Russian nail tech, they could have meant “technique” vs the persons cultural background, but that was the commonality for ALL of them and they looked just like “THAT KID” in 4th grade that nibbled his cuticles until they bled, and all of these people came from ALL demographics, from Lower Middle Class to plain ‘ol Mega Rich so who they went to, to have a “Russian Manicure” is anyone’s guess but with THAT MANY infections, the Health board would be notified and then a Unit Clerk would call the patient if the RN didn’t get the name of the Salon and there you go. Sooooo, you’d know fairly quickly if you phoned your Salon and they were closed for a week or two for some obvious reasons after putting 2 and 2 together. IF it is a Health Board Violation they are shut down for, a sign would be posted on the front door and their VM must indicate as such. That rule could vary as I am not sure if it is a City rule or a Federal, etc etc.
      If you go to the same person definitely watch how they clean their tools or ask, Autoclave? Light? Etc. And PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT EVER LET ANYONE USE A USED BUFFER, FILE, EMORY BOARD OR ANYTHING THAT CAN BE USED ON SOMEONE ELSE!!! I will ask for mine when they are done as they MUST discard them after each use and it is MINE so why not? All they can do is say no and they I would ask why and see if they say, oh, we clean them by blue light or some ridiculous answer that is NOT good enough.

    ok, this maybe a crazy question but what do you ask for when you go into the nail shop? and are all nail techs educated on this method?

    okay wait I saw you say you leave a bit of product after filing but also soaking everything off. Do I have to soak my manicure off erveytime I wanna change it with a rubber base or can I just file it off?

    Their is a line going across the middle of the nail, is that a normal thing that happens? Only asking because my nails have the same line in the middle and i don't know what causes that.

      Its her natural nail. She is wearing extensions and shes lying saying they're her natural nails. Look at the end of the clip when she shows her nail underneath, you can literally see her natural nail is short and brittle.

    Trick - if you have long nails like hers to avoid darker dusty spots use a tooth brush to clean underneath the nails and just the nail in general

    So does the rubber base, in a way, help shape the natural nail? Like my nails grow down when they hit a certain length. Would rubber gel help with that? I dont see how the gel wouldnt just curve down with my natural nail. But I feel like I heard in a previous video of yours that your nails to grow down also but yours look beautiful here. I’m so curious!

    Can you grow your natural nail while wearing press on’s? I dIY my nails and I wanna start growing them longer and healthier but I also want to add extensions sometimes. I use poly gel or sometimes I just stick the full nail on using a base coat and go .

      Flip your nails upside down and it will flow from the sides to the middle. Then clean up with acetone before curing

      I used to get lifting also. Use a dehydrator & primer, also the Young Nails protein bond works wonders. You can find videos for good nail prep

    Zoya Armor Topcoat 😍 is good, but it chips and peels too easily, very disappointed! I'm after Glisten & Glow topcoat or Vibrant Vinyls topcoat or Dazzle Dry. Tired of my varnish looking smudgy and chipped! Using nail stickers was okay, but even gel stickers peeled off! UK 🇬🇧 15.7 24

    Mine have gotten twice as long with just basic nail polish to the point the salon was asking what i did to grow them the 1 time i did go for a painted design😂
    So guys You dont NEED gel polish to grow them long. (Obv)
    Just keep your nails safe. 2,3 coats of colour obv to get the color even. And 2 coats of a nice strong top coat.
    Keeping up with filing off any damaged/cracking nails before they get worse.
    Thats all i did anyways. Im also vegetarian so im not sure if that had to do with it lol

    This is not really your natural nails then . With any gel manicure you do the same steps and your natural nails still grow underneath just the same, the only difference is that you didn’t apply the colour . It’s just transparent in your case lol
