    What brilliant concept but a lot more design/planning needed prior to building. The big benefit is a lot of construction with low skills.

    Looks similar to the idea of using compressed earth blocks to build a house, but with significantly lighter material. I wonder how they'd fare in the winter, though?

      @rongray4118 Před 6 lety +2

      I own a Hydraform Compressed Earth Block Machine and you are exactly correct. The neat thing about this machine is that it is not necessarily for compressing earth!

      A wood block house, built right to prevent air infiltration would probably be as goos lld as a well built log home. And they are a fairly proven technology.

      Like OUR kids today, None want to "Put In the Time" I see farms and ranches in Texas disappearing because the kids want the MONEY and to heck with the land of their ancestor's who labored long and hard to make it livable and productive. It is sad that the SAME kids who whine and preach about saving the land are the FIRST to sell it to "Developers". This man's kids seem to have the same mindset...Disturbing

      We should all have the right to follow our own dreams, not be bound by our forebears. Mr Nakao's children may go on to be of importance in a totally different field... it is unreasonable to expect them to pursue another person's dream. The real hope here is that someone else will be inspired to pick up this concept and take it further.

  • @brucewayne-ei9ex
    @brucewayne-ei9ex Před 6 lety +1

    Too much machine work to make it feasible. When I saw the thread, I thought the blocks were going to be from the cutting waste. I can't imagine how much saw dust is created forming these blocks.

    • @RabbitsInBlack
      @RabbitsInBlack Před 3 lety

      That’s why we have OSB and Particle board product that use waist. Also companies can use the saw dust to make logs and wood pellets for fire. Nothing is wasted in the timber industry.

    @yalgret Před 6 lety

    But how to build the roof?

    • @raysmith1028
      @raysmith1028 Před 6 lety +3

      Connecting roof trusses is a simple excercise. Note they use a steel angle between the posts bolted to the vertical steel rods so a stiff panel results. However connections are needed at the foundation to posts and post to roof members. light timber beams bolted to the posts can support roof loads wind earthquake snow as required. Furthermore the blocks need a durability/termite treatment - stepped lower at external wall/foundation junction. Internal walls will need to be connected to the structure to provide lateral support. All simple logics.

    • @yalgret
      @yalgret Před 6 lety

      I want to build one of these. I wonder if anyone is doing it today? Definitely worthwhile if you can find a good supply of off cuts, but you will still might have to pay almost their firewood value.
