regarding the audio quality since people will not read descriptions: the quality is poor due to the fact i had to record the file itself from OBS, due to the rendering process continually corrupting itself. the only way to save it was to record it with an external video recording device. mentally, i would've likely tried to hurt myself if i had to remake this video, as i'd already spent far too long on a video i already didn't particularly want to produce.

According to the rules in V3, the killing game would end when there were only two students left. Kokichi directly got two people killed without becoming the blackened himself in Chapter 4, so at that point, I thought his goal was to survive until he became one of the two survivors. And I thought that it was really cool to have an evil character among the students who isn't the mastermind, but only cares about their own survival. But the next Chapter he suddenly decides to kill himself? And his plan was to end the killing game and save the remaining five students? Then in Chapter 6, Kokichi's motive video tries to convince me he had good intentions all along. THAT'S KINDA LATE AFTER HE GOT GONTA KILLED AND ALSO IS ALREADY DEAD AT THIS POINT. Honestly, Kokichi would have been a better character if he was written to be an unredeemable jerk.

I don’t think that he’s meant to be a good character. He is meant to be a character with good goals but twisted intentions. I believe that he basically is trying to screw with US as the viewers. He tried to hide his personality through lies. Which makes everybody either hate him or love him. If he’s confusing as a character, I’m pretty sure it was on purpose. I also liked his plan because as this CZcamsr mentioned, it seemed like bad writing. It shows that it was rushed because IT WAS RUSHED. He had like an hour to plan it. The only thing I didn’t like was how he knew the handbook. I still think it was pretty smart though.

@@irum4233 I admit, while gonta is more of the type who doesn’t understand others, and in general just wants to stick together with them even if he has no idea what they are into.. gonta is a literal beast, easily outruns everyone, kidnaps most of the students, lifts up that heavy plate over the manhole WITH TWO FINGERS. and, with none of the kidnapping being a bad intention, he doesn’t intend to hurt people, however he is the opposite of an uwu soft boy. I do argue though that it was kokichi’s idea to “mercy” kill them, because the outside world was this hell, and that with gonta not understanding the untrustworthy nature of kokichi and even the possibilties he could get caught in the act when he had to toss the toilet paper to not look suspicious, sure if he put away the toilet paper immediately after he could maybe get away with it, and kokichi makes it pretty clear he planned the murder. I say it was an act of manipulation to get him to kill. and yes, miu having the virtual world make everyone the same strength level weakens gonta dramatically, probably on purpose to prevent kokichi getting gonta to kill (which indeed happened, good job miu.) and otherwise I don’t really have much else to say, just my opinion on the chapter 4 case. even though it still sounds unrealistic that gonta would kill a student, which he wanted to get along with to team up. and I still agree, gonta is not all “uwu soft baby”, he could rip my spine in half if he chose to.

Her character design is the most unique out of the THH cast (in my opinion) with a more realistic design that is still eye-catching. I feel like having Byakuya as sort of competition hurt Celestia. If I recall correctly, he got much more time over Celestia when it came to having a smart character with a cynical streak showing their intellect or conflict with others. Celestia needed more time and effort put into her to make use of her potential, but the writers weren't going to give her that over Byakuya. It's not the only thing that hurt her character. Chapter 3 was messy in a way that makes me feel that they just put less effort into her scheming and in her character than Byakuya. As someone who likes Celestia over Byakuya, the apparent disinterest in doing much with from the writer is something that annoys me, especially when comparing their effort with her to that with every other antagonistic character in DR.

(After seeing this again...I'm starting to relate to Celeste, personally, I don't wanna be normal, I wanna be special)
I wanna point out a few things about Celeste, Although the money was going to help her, that wasn't her main motivation.
It was actually alter Ego that gave her the motive she needed, the stars aligned when the money motive was shown as well.
Aside from hating everyone and her situation.
She had pretty good reason for killing, it wasn't just because of the dream, but because of the fact she was afraid of being the next victim.
    Case and point:
Sayaka and Chihiro, both considered were petite and rather weak (Well Sayaka was weak in the end because she hesitated but Celeste wasn't aware of the muscle she got from her work)
Aside from Makoto, she was probably the weakest out of the bunch. Even Yasuhiro Hagukure could kill her.
But she had everything to gain from preforming said crime.
    1. 2 people fighting over something and one of them she knew would be on her side
    2. Finally escaping that hell hole
    3. Finally having the money she needed to make her dream come true
    Also
I think Celeste might have actually liked Makoto like you said, assuming you did her free time events.
The way she acted might have been her way of testing to see if Makoto would like her, despite how she treated him.
Also....THERE IS NO FCKING WAY YOU SAY " The baby in my belly is yours! oh oops sorry wrong line" BY MISTAKE
THERE IS NO WAY YOU SAY THAT BY ACCIDENT AND ESPECIALLY AFTER YOU INVITE SOMEONE TO YOUR ROOM!!!!
I'm not saying I ship the 2, I'm just saying there really might have been some good in her.

I recall Celestia being very scared of being killed from the start being something that Celes mentioned in chapter 3. But that it was handled in such a way that it felt skimmed over, wasn't reflected on and didn't seem to affect the other characters at all. It was also put with her dream in such a way that it was always going to be focused on more by readers and even erase that side of her for lots of people. But, yes, I also think that Celestia was partly driven by her fear reaching a point where she felt her choices were to kill or having a death like Sayaka or Chihiro sooner or later.

His free time events aren't really like that though. You find out that his organisation is quite peaceful, and that he likes Saihara a lot more genuinely that you would have thought. The way he retcons his confession towards Saihara also shows how nervous he is about showing that he cares about other people, which suggests that when he shows concern towards the other characters he probably means it (like after Kaede's execution, where he seems quite remorseful until Shuichi says that "it's obvious you're lying" and Kokichi jumps on it)

And the next half of the video is released and I couldn’t agree with these points more. Celeste to me is a character who is dishonest, but consistent. She was looking out for her own survival and wanted the money to get closer to her goal. True, the narrative might have made it TOO obvious that she was the culprit, but this doesn’t damage Celeste as a character in my opinion. Kokichi on the other hand is just a hollow, misdirected, paranoid mess who instigated meaningless conflicts, fucked over the two characters who helped him the most, and planned to end the killing game in a way that solely relied on luck and plot conveniences to work. Seriously, why do the Exisals have a voice changer in the first place when they were designed specifically for the Monokubs? Something that you didn’t mention that always bugged me is this: why do the other characters allow Kokichi to pretty much do or get what he wants with little to no question? This was one of the BIGGEST problems I had with Chapter 4 and 5. Why did Miu trust him enough to give him inventions in the first place? Kaede and Shuichi had to literally bow to her and beg for her help in Chapter 1 in order to convince her to help out. I can’t see Kokichi doing that, so why would Miu give inventions to someone she doesn’t like, let alone trust? They literally NEVER explain how he managed to get her to help him. They NEVER explain how he managed to convince Gonta to go along with the mercy kill idea. They just say that these things happen and we are FORCED to accept it. True, this series has a lot of nonsense we have to accept, but at least the majority of these things have proper build-up to them. Sorry for the wall of text, but Kokichi at this point just frustrates me to the point of no longer feeling anything for him. I feel more apathy towards this character than hatred.

the biggest and most damning thing for me is the comparisons people make between ouma and three people: togami, komaeda, and fuyuhiko.
    1. togami has very well explained reasons why he behaves the way he does. he was taught from birth that the world is a cutthroat business transaction and that if he doesn't rise to the top, he will die in the gutter. he acts the way he does in the killing game because that's literally all he knows. his life has always been a killing game, just with less directly lethal consequences. seeing sakura sacrifice her life for her friends directly contradicts the world that togami has been living in, and when he realizes that the world is not as dog eat dog as he was conditioned to believe, he changes. ouma seems to already know that the world is more compassionate than he'd believe, he just *doesn't care.* he actively seeks to try and make others feel threatened and upset, because he wants to. he doesn't give a shit if the people around him are good or not; he just wants to cause as much chaos and hatred in his wake as he can. and i feel like the reveal at the end of the game where ouma was actually a "good guy" is another way to excuse his actions in the game. togami meanwhile has believable and sympathetic reasons to be the way he is.
    2. komaeda also has well explained reasons why he acts the way he does. while unfortunately a lot of his motives do stem from mental and physical illnesses, the effects are actually somewhat realistic. komaeda's been so used to living in extremes that it makes sense for him to see the world that way. his talent has also conditioned him to expect extreme good to come out of extremely bad situations, and vice versa. his ideal of hope is related to this, and he craves it so desperately that he will act in unpredictable and backwards ways to see it. ouma doesn't seem to be looking for the best in people; he already sees the good in a lot of his classmates. komaeda finds out that his classmates are terrible people, and thinks he's doing a good thing by ridding the world of them. ouma, meanwhile, gets rid of gonta, miu, and kaito directly, three people that are doing very big, net good things: gonta is by far the kindest and most trusting of the cast, miu is an inventor looking to improve humanity and its output, and kaito is the most confident and courageous person in the cast who was willing to take a literal poison arrow for ouma. and yet, ouma still actively decides to kill them for seemingly no reason other than to save his own ass.
    3. fuyuhiko grew up in a (quite literally) cutthroat world, and despite his innermost self being a loyal, genuine, and devoted person, he had to hide those parts of himself in order to survive every day. that constant pushing down of his emotions gave him a hard, disinterested exterior. it could be argued that this was actually fuyuhiko's way of being kind to others, by trying to keep them away from his life of crime and violence. fuyuhiko is aware of the selfless nature of people, with peko laying down her life constantly to protect him, his sister being devoted to him to the point of near idolization, and even ibuki celebrating his recovery with a concert. when his outer layers start to deteriorate, he's scared. he knows that he's been a bad person, and his entire character arc is his atonement for the destruction that happened around him. ouma sacrifices people around him willingly, does not atone for any of that destruction, and is eventually vindicated for seemingly no goddamn good reason. ouma is treated as a "good guy deep down" despite him showing absolutely no signs to validate this idea. fuyuhiko and ouma may share a voice actor, but they do not share anything else in terms of characterization.

I’m pretty curious about this take.
“Ouma seems to already know the world is more compassionate than he’d believe, he just doesn’t care.” Rantaro + Tenko accuse Kokichi of wanting to start the killing game because he’s the first one to suggest they take a break from attempting the Death Road of Despair. In ch2, he gets choked out in front of the entire group… and the only one to intervene is Kaito. In ch3, he takes a plank to the head and nobody tries to help treat him. I’d say the game is teaching him people are LESS compassionate than he’d believe.

      @anotherrandomperson9174 Před 10 měsíci +1

“Ouma gets rid of Gonta, Miu, and Kaito directly, each of whom are doing very net good things.” Leaving aside Gonta and his agency in his murder, Miu was attempting to kill Kokichi in that chapter… and thereby was attempting to kill the entire cast… which isn’t a net good, I feel like we can agree. He also didn’t kill Kaito - he gave Kaito, who was already a dying man, the antidote after Maki came in to shoot them both. As soon as Kaito leapt in to intercept Maki’s second arrow, two people who were going to die there. And Ouma is neither the person who initiated the attack nor did he tell Kaito to dive in front of that arrow. I’m not blaming Kaito or saying Kaito did anything wrong. Maki came to kill Kokichi because she thought he was the mastermind because of the Flashback Light, and it’s not like Kokichi can control the Flashback Lights either. In fact, he could’ve escaped death there by taking the antidote himself and letting Maki and Kaito die (Maki, who has now nearly killed Kokichi twice, and Kaito, the dying man). Sure it’s a jerk move, but it seems like it’d be in line with a large amount of how people interpret him.

    • @anotherrandomperson9174
      @anotherrandomperson9174 Před 10 měsíci +1

      “Ouma is eventually vindicated”
??? Yes, his last words are shown indicating that he hates the killing game and was trying to end it, but it’s not like his plan succeeds. Kaito, the one who relays his words to the group, adds at the end that he thinks those last words aren’t worth anything at all. And then in the next chapter we get Kokichi’s motive video depicting DICE to prove he isn’t a Remnant of Despair and he wasn’t the mastermind either, but this isn’t saying that he did anything good during the game or that he accomplished anything good, and no one in game considers this to exonerate Kokichi of any of the actions he took during the killing game.
I try to keep my views as neutral as possible, so please excuse any bias that has leaked in.

You just described in a few words why I think Kokichi is Danganronpa's worst writing: Its ambiguity. I was debating before with other users (I use them as an example not to offend) one of them I told him that Kokichi told Ryoma who had his video knowing the content (which is implied in the class trial), his argument was that PROBABLY (keyword) Kokichi gave it to him to find meaning in his life and he didn't know it was empty until later. Okay perfect, then comment on similar reasons why I thought his plan didn't make sense and he told me that I didn't understand his character. That I was seeing him as a manipulative master who always has everything under control, but in reality he was "good intentions, bad decisions" (which I disagree with considering that they put him to make a plan to deceive himself Monokuma and most of the fandom see him as the smartest after Junko and Kamukura. Someone like that I can't see as someone who didn't know what he was doing) Well, in another comment I meet someone who says that Kokichi's character is just a bastard who only thinks about beating the game and doesn't care about others. This justifies the reason that the plan did not save his grandmother, and that he gave the reason to Ryoma (but with this also I do not think the same, because he gave the antidote to Kaito when he could carry out his plan with him dead, in addition to the video of DICE and that specifies that it does not kill) If I point this out it is not to see who of the two is right, but to show that when there is a hole in the plot, the fans will always say that "Nope, that was not the character, what he really was "and then invent a character that avoids all the plot holes and say that it is the author who decided this. And that's the point, the author has no intention. Since Kokichi always lies, you can make up whatever intention you want to the character when there are plot holes, while the author doesn't give any intention for fans to modify the character at their convenience. If, as a fan, I have to write the intentions, the explanations, invent things that we never saw in the canon so that your character does not lose meaning and you as the author did not show me anything; so he's a bad character because the author causes his fans to write to Kokichi. And this is not the same as leaving things for the player to decide. Sayaka is a good example. Did she write the message just to get back at Leon or to help and save her friend? That is up to the reader to interpret, but the rest of Maizono's actions and his intentions are very clear. But in the case of Kokichi, his entire character is up to the reader's interpretation. Which in turn would pretty clearly expose Monokuma's lie of knowing how every murser plays out. Though there would still be no indication that Monokuma would let everyone go, and it would raise a different issue entirely, in that Monokuma might execute everyone except Kaito since they "voted incorrectly" for who the culprit is.

So I’ve mentioned before somewhere about rewriting Kokichi. Well this isn’t a perfect idea and is probably really bad but at least it’s an idea but prepare for a 1:30 am idea I got
So first things first was that I really wanted to change the talent from pretty much a dictator to something else
After thought. I figured unlucky student.
It’s definitely not something canonically done and it gives me an idea how to handle the other parts
Persona: Kokichi Oma is an unlucky student who is childish and can come off as pestering to other people. Despite his energetic nature, he tends to spend much of his time as he can, alone. He will tease the other classmates enough that hopefully they get annoyed with them and end up leaving him alone. But he tries to never go too far with the teasing because that weighs on his conscious. His view on luck could lead to some self esteem issues with him not finding himself more of a burden to the rest of his class mates. And I could also imagine him lying to simply make people not want to be around him.
Agency: possibly him trying to be annoying and drive people away. Yet he doesn’t go out of his way to make class trials much harder for people because while that would drive people away it could risk in them all dying.
Not to mention I still imagine he’d be smart and helpful when he absolutely feels like he should. Like during class trials. Despite not wanting to get too involved due to luck, when he does get involved he will say something really insightful and helpful as with an unlucky talent he’s probably had to be very cautious and analytical of things anyways.
Motive: in his mind, if he drives people away and isolates himself, if he goes it alone, no one will be affected by his luck therefore no one has to die. If he acts too rude though, it weighs on his conscious because he doesn’t really like hurting people especially since he’s seen people get hurt before and believes it’s because of his luck.
    4: wants and fears
Wants: I imagine he’d care for the well being of his class maters and want them to be safe.
But deep down he’d wish to not be unlucky in which he wouldn’t have to isolate himself and could be friends with everyone.
Fears: unintentionally causing someone to die in the game due to his luck.
I can imagine him actually afraid of death too which is why instead of trying to die right off the bat, he pushes people away.
Connections and conflicts: not 100% sure how I’d go through this one. Maybe someone else has ideas to this probably bad rewrite but again. At least it’s actually something and not a copy-paste of Nagito
Edit: also. I said I can still see him as analytical. I do see him as analytical enough to notice things but I also see him being held back by his own personal bias with his luck which keeps him from rethinking how he’s going about pushing people away and how that could be harmful
Probably made no sense. I should really sleep

Nagito was actually one of my favourites however, after watching too many LPs, he just got more progressively annoying. Every single little thing that happens, he makes it all about his hope and by extension, about himself. His FTEs also were kind of thinly-veiled emotional manipulation for the player. I know they were there to explain why he is the way he is. I wouldn't be so annoyed by if it didn't cause his more rabid fans to excuse his shitty actions because of mental illness.
Kokichi? Meh. Funny kid. Has some replay value (just to see missed foreshadowing). Certainly overrated but not really as maddening in LPs as Nagito (for me). I was actually glad he didn't have a fleshed-out backstory because sure the excusing-Nagito's-crap thing would be a repeat. But Ch 5 AKA "Kokichi did nothing wrong" undid all of that.

It's dramatically ironic, and somewhat interesting, that the factors that are supposed to redeem Kokichi ( his manipulation of trial 5 and the stuff you find in his room) are what kill his worth as a character. Like if he were just an unredeemable "chaos factor teehee" villain then I could've loved to hate him. Instead, I'm annoyed and frustrated that the game wasted my time with poorly written nonsense.

for some reason my brain latched onto kokichi as a comfort character, but at the same time makes nagito fill me with rage even though he's a com0lex, interesting, well written character. my hypothesis as to why people like kokichi so much is because he's a blank slate, slightly queer coded, and also the enemies to lovers trope. i think he could've been a really compelling character, had he been given a personality or a clearer goal. for example, a goal he might've had was to beat the killing game, and outsmart the mastermind. how would he do this? create an unsolvable mystery, reveal the masterminds hypocrisy(ie 6th trial style) and save as many people as possible. as you said inthe first part, he was not designed to be human. if he had been fleshed out more, and given an actual character, i believe he could've been one of the best characters, possibly reminding players of hiyoko, nagito, sayaka, and celeste.
for hiyoko, he'd be immature, have a hard time being serious at the right times, possibly miss some social cues, cry at any insults, be unable to take criticism unless its from someone close. he'd also seem even more like an autistic person to me, as hiyoko reminds me of my own experiences
for nagito, well, yea💜 im not good at talking about nagito because my monkey brain hates him for no reason, but i think they'd share the trait of being sympathetic but not in a super redeemable way
for sayaka, i think he'd latch onto someone right away, he'd try desperately to get out to save his friends, he'd feel guilty and scared, he'd show more distress in a traumatic situation
and for celeste, he wouldn't reveal his lies, his lies would also be subtler, his plans would be better thought out, he'd also actually be a good leader lol

All of them are really good, and I loved your ability to speak your mind about the things in the fandom that you didn't like, especially regarding people's opinions on certain characters.
And this video about Kokichi ( and it's first part, too) made me appreciate your channel even more because you said the things that I have been thinking about for a very long time, so I agreed with every bit. I'm tired of these videos where people say that Kokichi is the best character but don't really explain why, also say the 5th trial of v3 is the best because of Kokichi... I always saw Kokichi as a character who is so "interesting" and "complicated" but actually just edgy, lazily written, bland and overrated by the fandom.
And, regarding Celeste, I was confused by people saying her trial is one of the worst and her plan was bad compared to Kokichi's. Like, no, it wasn't?! Celeste is a far better liar AND character than Kokichi, because she has a clear motive, isn't as in your face with her lies and actually has an interesting backstory that explains her actions unlike Kokichi. I was glad I'm not the only one thinking this and someone finally acknowledged this in their video.

It looks like something a 14 year old would draw for his "kokichi creepypasta (wery crepy)." This guy has FIVE different sprides to smile like a creep. FIVE! Two of which are terrible (the creepypasta one and the one where he is black and white), two I enjoy (The standard one and the one where he looks "realistic") and one that just sort of exists (The one after the second trail).
Nagito didn't just have one creepy smile, but I also find his normal, default smile REALLY uncomfortable. His dead, gray eyes looking into my soul with his calm, kinda empty smile while looking like Makoto gives me 10 times more chills then the.. "Creeeeeepy kokichi creeeeepy" smile.

TBF about Your Turn to die its obviously on a much tighter budget and doesn't have the time to flesh out the characters in the way you want here. It only has the 3 chapters to tell its story and I feel like as it is now is good without free time events. Free time events wouldn't really make sense anyways within the context of YTTD. That being said if you did want to see the characters of YTTD in a more (slightly) stress free environment, I would recommend Your turn to shine. Its way more light hearted and all of it is more character without any real deaths, its a lot like the side modes in each danganronpa game. Honestly I prefer YTTD over Danganronpa because of how much better the characters are for me, but I understand you not wanting to play further because of trauma. Sadly you missed out on an even better Liar character then Celeste and Kokichi combined in chapter 2. I would recommend you read Sou's wiki if you dont feel like playing. Also can you please remove the Joe spoiler at 3:29? Danganronpa spoilers are fine and while completely obvious some people might not know what happens to Joe in chapter 1 and I wouldn't want that to be ruined for them.

So, Kodaka made a character who is the shallowest version of the Joker, an agent of chaos, and put him with the trope "Draco in Leather Pants" because, as we all know, if someone thinks a character is hot, they want them redeemed so fantasies can continue guilt free, regardless of the redemption quality. I mean, we know what happened with Rey-lo.

Zavok: controlled with Cacophonic Conch and forced to control the Robots: Freed in chapter 5 to help stop Monokuma
Metal sonic: incapacitated in chapter 1
E-123 Omega Heavily damaged in chapter 2
    Gemerl: incapacitated in chapter 3
Heavy King: Destroyed in chapter 4
Explosive wristbands: I only have these involved because I need the characters to not be able to end the killing game with thier powers.
Idea for the mastermind: Mephiles The Dark, Eggman Nega, Infinite, Dr.Starline, Junko Enoshima ( I'm only half joking with this last one because even when it doesn't make sense she has to be the bad guy)

I remember seeing this beautiful comment on a video by Derpy Hiro on how he would change the survivors of the first game and man… this one comment by a user named SpiritofChaos really made me respect taka more as a character and how he just fit into the theme of despair.
      Here’s the comment:
“Oops. You ever just love a character so much you accidentally write a freaking novel about their death? This is super long and I’m sorry but golly I wanted to talk about my fav DR character.
I think Taka’s death is the only one in the series that legit wrecked me. It is honestly perfect in how utterly horrible it is in every way. It feels like his whole ark is designed to screw with him and my god it works so terribly well.
Taka tries so hard throughout the game. Literally NOTHING he does is done halfheartedly; he’s always passionate, he’s always determined, he’s always bold and unforgettable. Taka always pushed everyone to be better and, even if his methods weren’t always tactful, his intent was always pure. Taka probably tries the hardest out of anyone to keep everything in order.
His FTE’s show that, because of his intensity, he’s never been able to make friends. So, when he DOES finally make a friend, he falls into that relationship with the same passion he does with everything else. It’s clear that he deeply respects Mondo, likely because Mondo works hard and has morals despite his role as a gang leader
. They're two of the hardest working characters I think, as neither of their skills are natural talent. Characters like Leon don't struggle to be great at what they do, but it's clear that both Taka and Mondo work themselves to the bone to be Ultimates
Taka’s ark is designed to utterly destroy his optimism and hope. He’s given his first friend, only to watch him be brutally murdered. Not only that, but Taka has to realize that his only friend was a killer, someone who brutally murdered an innocent who came to him for help.
For someone with such a black and white view on morality, to see a man who you think is so great do something so evil is mind shattering. It’s clear that Taka can’t face that reality, and so he utterly blames himself. I think Taka likely felt like he’d failed Mondo, that he was somehow responsible for his death. Just like Mondo with Diya, Taka carried the guilt of his brother’s death.
To see such a bold character as Taka become so utterly muted and silent is horrific. Just like Junko wanted, Taka’s hope and idealism is utterly shattered. He no longer believes in his morals because his black and white view on morality has been challenged and defeated by Mondo’s gray morality. He no longer believes in the concept that effort triumphs all because he tried his best to save Mondo and failed. He no longer believes in his own integrity because he feels responsible for Mondo’s death.
When I played the game, I was legit furious with the cast regarding how they treated Taka post chapter 2. It was so clear that he was DESPERATELY in need of help. He was utterly catonic and clearly hadn’t eaten since the trial. Despite that though, only Hiro and Makoto make even the barest efforts to help Taka. Even then, they honestly don’t do much for him.
For the first time, Taka was in need of the utter passion he gave to everyone else. He needed someone who was determined to bring out the good in him, even if he himself wasn’t invested. In that moment, Taka needed his own Taka, someone to force him to take care of himself and be better. But in reality, Taka is alone. Nobody is as bold and brazen as Taka is. The only one who could match that energy was Mondo and, with Mondo gone, nobody has the passion to help him.
To just add insult to injury, he was even killed in a mocking way. He was murdered with a ‘justice’ hammer because he was accused of a horrid crime. For the Moral Compass, there is no worse death than to die accused of rape and then bludgeoned with a tainted symbol of justice.
I feel like Taka’s death reflects how totally he fades. I’m biased because he’s my fav, but I think Taka’s the least mourned over victim. Sayaka is mourned by Makoto, Chihiro is mourned by Mondo, Sakura is mourned by Hina. Hell, Hina also sheds a few tears for Hifumi last minute. In comparison, Taka is somewhat ignored. Even in the trial, it’s Hifumi, not Taka, who gets the focus.
As horrible as it is, it’s fittingly despair inducing for such a loud and bold character to be ultimately ignored and forgotten the second he goes quiet. The only part I dislike is the whole Kiyondo thing, but I think it also has value. It’s like a twisted, self destructed version of what Taka once was, like he attempted to pull himself together with false hope and created an abomination of personality.
All that being said...MAN I still wish that Hiro and Taka had swapped places! Taka was such a great character and I would have LOVED to see him raise above his loss and reclaim hope. Imagine how COOL trial 3 would be if Taka was accused instead. It would make sense to frame him; he'd clearly gone insane after the Mondo incident. He was always obsessed with morals so him dressing as Robo Justice would be somewhat in character. With his sudden personality shift, would it be too far of a stretch to say Taka did kill Hiro and Hifumi? Even those two victims makes sense, as they could both be seen as degenerates; Hiro makes a living off of scams and psychic ability while Hifumi’s a total creep. I’m not saying they’re bad people, but I could see Celeste claiming Taka thinks they’re bad people.
Further, would Taka be able to deny the argument? Would he remember his time as Kiyondo and, if he did, would he trust his memory. It would definitely be interesting to have to convince Taka himself that he isn’t the culprit.
Alas, that's all too hopeful for that part of the game.
Instead, Taka is utterly crushed both metaphorically and literally. It reminded me of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka; both characters worked hard for those they felt responsible for, but when they needed help, they were ignored and eventually destroyed and discarded”
