*[KOREKIYO SHINGUUJI FANS, PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING]*
I meant absolutely no offense to his fans when I was writing this video. However, I please request that you don't comment "he was abused" or something along these lines. I am doing my best to collect myself enough to come back to this, as I am a victim of familial abuse myself. I need time to be able to do this, because I would like to come to this conclusion on my own. It's incredibly distressing to receive comments forcing me to reengage with it before I'm ready to do so. Please respect my boundaries and mental health.
THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO MAKE "SWEET HOME ALABAMA" JOKES IN THE COMMENTS. just like i need time to come back to this character, even his fans are uncomfortable with these comments. any comments caught doing this will be deleted.

Adding on to your thoughts on how Himiko's ark led to the lesson about how you should remember the dead and live on so that they may continue to live on through you, I think Korekiyo's motive being what it was, acted as a subtle reminder not to take that lesson too far.
Kiyo's whole motive revolves around his dead sister, a person he loved more then anything or anyone in the world; even though his dialog hinted at her being an abusive manipulator, but I digress. He obsessed over her death and making sure her dream could be seen done, to the point where his very identity was being overwritten by the image of her, literally in this case. She is and always will be dead, but he couldn't accept that, and he let it consume him to the point of madness, even to the point of believing that she was possessing him; living through him.
It even extends into his Talent. Over simplifying, Anthropology; to look deep into the past to learn about old and sometimes forgotten people and cultures. To learn about the long dead and gone, to see how their lives influences the future. He is always stuck in the lone gone past of those that quote unquote, "haunt" the current lives of the world.
His actions are a warning. Always remember and treasure those that you love, even after they are gone, but do not let them be the only thing you let into your life. Keep hold of those memories, but don't be afraid to grieve and move on. Don't let the dead be the ones who control your future.

Something I'll say that a lot of people don't bring up is that Monodam and Angie are actually parallels. Crazy right? Monodam tries to control the group into getting along, he uses a more forceful tactic but his line of thinking is about the same as Angies. He want's everyone to get along and for another killing not to happen. Angie wants the same thing and creates the student council to control the other students. We see both characters use fear tactics and manipulation into getting other to do what they want. The reason I started thinking this was because of the key. You know the key Monodam ate, the one to the Art room. Monodam says "Let me see that." as he takes the key and eats it, so everyone will get along. Later we see Angie pull the same trick saying "Let me see that." for the flashback light as she takes it and smashes it on the ground. She did the same crap as monodam, and I think thats pretty funny.

Even funnier; they actually took something potentially important away from each other. That key was suppose to be Angie's, but Monodam ate it before it could be used. At the same time, that flashback light was Monodam's idea to get everyone to get along, but she crushed it under her foot before it could be used.
I think Angie was also a foil for Monodam, as she was basically the first sign that he was starting to lose control over the killing game. (Seriously, she outright defied him right in front of everyone, and was even more powerful than he was in that moment!)

You are so right! Angie was actually the smartest and, unknowingly, most logical one!
    Reasons you mentioned:
    - Always on the Protagonist Side (who is never wrong!)
    - Right during the first trial
    - Wasn't clouded by emotions and was right to suspect Himiko (she gets a lot of flag for that because she was a bad friend there. In a trial of life and death, friendships are nice but ultimately meaningless. They can make you blind and cause you to completely ignore a possibility.)
    *POTENTIAL SPOILERS*
    but also:
    - Did the right thing when she destroyed the Flashlights (Her reasoning was not completely correct for it but she had the right idea)
    - Not wanting to leave and, therefore, not giving Monokuma the power he possessed before with their constant reminders of "just kill one and get out, easy as that"
    - Her Ultimate Student Council was... extreme but they had the right idea with forbidding their fellow students to leave their rooms at night! EVERY... SINGLE... MURDER Was either prepared OR put in action during the night (except the first one maybe)
    2. Kirumi prepared her murder before night time but put it in action during night time
    3. Korekiyo prepared his tricks during night time because the ones not in the Council didn't want to follow their rules
    4. Miu worked on her VR thing day and night and had enough time and chance to talk to Monokuma and put her plan into action
    5. Himiko brought Kaito the Crossbow during night time (at least I think it was night time)

I actually already liked this trial, I mean, Kiyo is one of my favorite characters in Danganronpa and I think that his murders were truly complex, and as you said, if they didn’t have Kokichi they would’ve never discovered Angie’s body. I didn’t really mind the incest part because it gave the character some more depth in my opinion, and seeing that the person he loved the most also turned her back on him and actually helped vanishing his soul is really strong. I did notice Himiko’s development, and even I have to say that Tenko’s last words were a dead giveaway of her death, and I would’ve liked something more subtle over something that blunt, but it is honestly my favorite trial of V3, yes it might be underrated, but I also feel that a few trials and massively overrated. Blame the devs for how the 3rd trial went in the 2nd game. Fuyuhiko was supposed to die, but since it would affect Peko’s sacrifice. They allowed him to live so Peko didn’t die for nothing. And so his character development could happen.
Hiyoko just got tossed in, in a VERY lazy way. And it wasn’t deserved. And it also made everything Mikan did, just wasteful and made her look like she didn’t pull of her murders properly. The 3rd trial was just a huge slap in the face to Mikan and Hiyoko. There’s a huge reason why a lot of the fans think it should’ve just been Ibuki, or also replacing Hiyoko with Sonia to die.

Korekiyo had been mentally abused by his sister. His sister manipulated him into loving her in that sick way. Since she was diagnosed with a sickness, it could've been the cruel idea of "you aren't leaving me." So she purposefully made it a goal to have him depend on her and never think of the idea of leaving her. When she did the mark had been planted and Korekiyo was unable to move on from her death.
Korekiyo would have grieved for a long time if he WASN'T mentally abused by her. It probably would've been the same motive, but the underlying love of a older brother who couldn't have taken the idea of his sister taken away from him. It would have shown a side of Korekiyo I wish the creators had given him. Someone who cares too much. Because he did. Even without the manipulation, having your younger sister in the hospital her whole life, and you unable to help her, just try to stay and spend your time with her as much as you can because you know that she can't make friends, she can't experience schools and classmates like you can.
The reason Korekiyo was into incest, was because his sister abused him into submission.
I hope this changes at least your dislike for Korekiyo a little bit. It probably didn't make sense, but I see Korekiyo in a glorious light. I respect your opinion of not liking him. But due to my overthinking trait I found myself loving him greatly.

Man's a victim himself even if he's a serial killer(although that isn't true, he still believes it to be and is completely okay with it and continues his killing.), there's always a reason, some sort of origin of malice that infects the surroundings, in this case that was his sister, a selfish desire to feel loved due to an illness she had. That grew into malice that she spread into Kiyo, where he then became a murderer. I'm sure that since he only kills wonderful and good people(who are female), there are families and friend groups that have lost their pillar of support, the friend or family member they can rely on because of one girl who failed fate and was destined for death alone. Perhaps some of them even adopted psychopathic tendencies themselves, imagine hundreds of Komaeda's and Fukawa's.

Himiko Yumeno is my favourite character in Danganronpa and it's nice to have a better understanding of her as a character.
Also yeah Korekiyo's motive for killing turns me off him, but otherwise I love him apart from that with his cool design and how he talks, especially when explaining things. If he wasn't crazy, he may have made it to best boy status only being rivaled by Kaito (DRV3 Spoilers Ahead)
Still can we talk about how dumb that most of the motives go unused? Like the reviving a student from the dead? I can already imagine how cool a mystery that would of been of how they came back, only to then have a shocking betrayal at the end that it was a random person given the appearance and memories of the dead person. That would have just added to the messed up implications of the killing game being real.
and tons of other motives went unused like the Card Key Kokichi stole (which is just such a unsignificant motive) and the first blood perk (which now that I think about it, how did no one get the big brain idea of stopping Kaede's death by saying she could still have her motive reward... I mean it would have made the trial anticlimactic and miss out on one of the most horrifying punishments, but still). The only motive used well was the Monopads with a video for each student, with the mystery of who had each others, Kokichi scheming to have a Monopad screening and the tragedies that these monopods contained. Guess in a way though the audience watching the killing game must have been disappointed as well.

One thing I would like to bring up that I thought of while watching this video
You mention a big theme of the game, and this chapter in particular, is the concept of logic vs. emotions, and I think that another notable way this applies is with Korekiyo himself and his crimes.
Logic: When beginning the set up to his very elaborate plan, he is interrupted by the logic oriented Angie, who he has to swiftly kill off in a rather crude way, especially for this series and who he as a person is. But with this he crafts together a plan to cover up his crime in a very enigmatic locked room mystery to erase nearly all evidence of his involvement, save for one brief oversight with the tape. And in this locked room we even see him attempt to toy with the emotions of the others, specifically the detective and massive assets to the trial, Shuichi, by using Kaede specifically to pierce with his katana and lock the room with. He eventually mentions in the trial that Monokuma states it is only the murderer of Angie that will be punished, and because save for one small oversight, and him not anticipating the lock picking skills of Kokichi, he creates a scenario where he is nearly able to get away with things had that just been it. However,
Emotions: In his drive to fulfill his goal of sending 100 friends to his sister, Korekiyo decides that even after his murder of Angie, which would've been near impossible to pin specifically on him, he can't waste the plan he had already set up, going against logical reasoning. And so he urges the group to move into those empty rooms and perform the seance he had planned for and the death trap he had initiated so he could murder another, one that was premeditated, and one he had a planned victim of, that being a female friend for his sister. And the victim just so happens to be the emotion oriented Tenko. Had his urges and desires not driven him to do this, he could've gotten away, but his emotion took over his logic then and there.
Even in the trial he exhibits both. Towards the beginning he leans towards logic more, ironically towards his more emotion driven kill. It is quickly figured out that he was behind Tenko's murder, but he is able to divert people to his involvement for a time, use reasoning that could point away, mess with Himiko in particular to complicate things, and, even once he is found out, uses the fact that only the murderer of Angie will be punished to his favor. As they don't quite know it was him who killed her, he is able to continue using logic to attempt to win the trial and escape. But once his involvement with Angie's murder becomes clear, he finally starts breaking down, hard, and his emotions finally take full front in this time. Where as he worked more with logic at the beginning of the trial, now it was emotions that was the clear victor. We learn his true emotional motives, and we see his logical shell crack. Korekiyo has a huge duality here, and it ultimately is what backfires on him and seals his fate. And it shows he can't operate solely on logic like he would like to as his hidden emotions interfere.
There's likely more to it but i found it very fascinating to consider while watching.

Yes, I totally agree with you. From the start, I have loved Himiko and never understood why everyone hated her so much. Maybe it's because they would have preferred someone else live, such as Kokichi (because he seems to be the fan fav even though there are many better characters, but let's not get into that right now) or Gonta, and they shrug her off as boring even though that couldn't be further from the truth. She had some of the best development in the franchise, in my opinion, and this video helped me believe that even more. Her development also felt the most real to me, since I have an older sister who acts a lot like Himiko due to depression, and I just felt closer to her because of that. It's realistic.
That, plus her development wasn't just the author blaming all her shitty actions on a crappy past life and calling it good, like many characters. It actually showed her moving on and being a better her overall. Yet they brush off her development and that third trial just because Korekiyo had some weird incest going on...I thought the fandom would be smarter about this... *smh noises*

    @galaxysuta Před 4 lety +43

When diving into Korekiyo as a person i think we can explain his incestious relationship as nothing more then schizophrenia, and i'm not using this terms for no reason.
Schizophrenia:a long-term mental disorder of a type involving a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion, and behaviour, leading to faulty perception, inappropriate actions and feelings, withdrawal from reality and personal relationships into fantasy and delusion, and a sense of mental fragmentation.
Schizophrenia for what i know is seperated into 3 major type of symptom changing from one individue to another:
-Positive symptoms wich classifies hallucination and dementia that can take many form as well as excentric through and mannerism , in Shinguji's case hallucinations and dementia make him see and firmly believed that her sisters still exist as a coping mechanism over her death. For the excentric part i don't think i have to explain between is through on beauty of the dark said of humanity and his weird demenors that charecterise him.
-negativs symptom wich caused pore and growing difficulty in social and emotional interaction, most of the time causing apathy and an isolation to a very few relationship, in this case Korekiyo only relation was her sisters wich he spend all days with at the hospital and his lack of social skill by his weird deminors and total apathy when talking about admiring to see the despair of other, being openly sexual without any reaction or simply be able to kill without remorse.
-Dissociative symptoms wich his a disorganization of the way you think, speak, feel and your body reaction. This can caused in some cases irrational or illogical speech especially under pression where subject lose easily nervs and most importantly obsessional and idealisational through.
So there you have it: Korekiyo is delusional over his sister. His delusion make him fantasise by coping mecanism a reality where he can stay in his comfort zone with only one relationship where he lived the more pure and ideal love with his sisters (People saying him is a creep cause acting like she's still alive) as well as embrassing sexuality (especially bondage) as he see is a total pure beauty (he also belive a ritual using rope is what bring her back explaining his obsession with ropes). This also explain his obsession with human beauty in even the darkest of act and anthropology wich he explain during his free time were both given to him by his sisters, to embrace dark beauty he commited murder by love. A darkest and romantic twisted form of beauty.
By doing this Korekiyo reject any form of logic by embrasing delusion and reject any form of real emotion like grief by staying in his comfortable lie that this relationship and happiness bring him. But in his mind this is the real logic and emotional way of thinking
His execution have him being punish by his real sister ghost, of course she would if she wasn't crazy like her brother. She implated those complicated feeling in Korekiyo mind but his obsession was what bring him to do such horrible and twisted things. In first the scene of reunion is representing to ne idelic only to be broke in realisation and terror by Monokuma and the music when what begin by joy of dying in delusion end with pleeding for his afterlife in realisation and terror of what is really happening.
And there you have my through on the all incest things, i'm french so sorry for the many spelling error. Still hope my point of view have been interesting to at least for one of you and I wish you to have a good day! ^//^

Ummmm EVERY 3rd trial is underrated.
Literally none of the fans give Celeste, Mikan and Korekiyo any credit for how smart they were and how well they pulled it off. Each of these trials gave off a really good plot twists and they really helped continue the story, and helped the other characters develop better.
The reason why they’re the underrated (and especially hated) trials is because the killers of each one kill fan favourites off and the fanbase get’s really salty about it.
They’re very unique trials that the fanbase gives barely any credit for. So thanks for making a video about this trial.
I’d love it if you made one for Mikan’s trial as well. And maybe also dive into Mikan’s backround. Her life and childhood....is so messed up....But I blame the writers for how awful the trial went down. Fuyuhiko was supposed to die and the developers just threw in Hiyoko last minute. So it was just a sloppy way of how it went.

Sorry but the third trial of the first game is definitely the weakest since you can guess pretty much everything as soon as it happens because of how odd Celeste's behavior was whereas in Danganronpa 2, well with the investigation it becomes pretty obvious but it's not as easy. For the plan itself, Kyo had definitely the best one for both murders and Celeste the weakest one. It wasn't so much as to guess who the culprit was in her trial, but to dismantle everything to go to her.

    • @Rice_ball_Twodot

@@eric7798 You opinion is very true but mostly the main reason Celeste got cought was because hufumi said the casts last names instead of the first names. The plot twist in the 1st games chapter 3 was very surprising. The 2nd games 3rd trial is sloppy because hiyoko died with out figuring the murder weapon just so fuyuhikyo could get character development. And the 3rd games 3rd trial is actually cool. No one would have expected a murder to take place while figuring out a murder all ready. Even though it was kinda obvious it was kiyo it was still fun to hear his motives (the fandom did him dirty) And how he did it.

    I absolutely love Himiko
    She's my favorite V3 Character
    My 2nd is Tenko
I don't really get the Himiko x Tenko hate
They would make such an amazing couple
    First we have Tenko:
Tenko knows how to express herself. She knows that emotions are important for you to live a healthy life. She sees how Himiko isn't able to express herself well enough. (I'll also mention that Tenko said she always wanted to be a magical girl which plays a part in her feelings for Himiko I guess). She's literally the only one who supports himiko at all because she either had the same problems and knows the aftermath of it or she just knows something is up.
She wants to show Himiko what all these Emotions feel like. And she would've done such an amazing job. Honestly, after she died I was so mad. Because I felt like Himiko and Tenko could finally get really close. I felt like Tenko finally reached out to Himiko. And she literally did. After Tenko died Himiko was so much more "alive".
    Now for Himiko:
I wouldn't say Himiko is "depressed". It could be, I just don't believe so. I think Himiko has a form of Autism that won't let her experience emotions as well as others. Personally, my brothers have autism. They just have a form of autism that let's you experience anger more than other emotions. It's rare I see them really excited, happy or sad. They're just extremely mad or not so mad. Which was the same with Himiko. She was either extremely tired. Or less tired than usual. That is until Tenko showed her. Or at least she tried her best. Of course it doesn't work right away. If that was the case it would've been so boring. But in Chapter 3 she finally reached out to her. She got her moving forward to better herself. And I was so happy about that. I know DR is all about despair, yes yes. But cmon. Did this really have to happen? Did they only do that for the "despair effect"?. Himiko, and allot of people who probably got inspired by this, didn't deserve this. Tenko is a huge emotional support character for Himiko (and me). Himiko and Tenko would make an amazing couple because it would be an extremely healthy relationship.
Himiko was such a fkin punching bag through all of this.
Himikos experience made me so sad.
She wanted to make everyone happy by performing a show.
    Someone died during her show.
Himiko wanted to experience true happiness through religion. Angie died. Himiko got framed for murder two times. A murder of her probably best friend. Of course she didn't know how to fu***ng react. Of course she didn't know how to refuse. Everyone has probably been in a situation where you have been accused of wrong doings but even tho it wasn't your fault you still didn't know how to refuse and took the blame. Everyone has probably been there at least once. Give her a fu**ing break ffs. Give her the happiness she deserves. This girl has been through so much more than the other characters. And yet almost everyone hates on her.
    Thanks for reading

    Wow, just wow.
For the anniversary, i've been getting back into the series and when i saw this recommended the first time i thought "Really?" And expected satire at most (Akin to Nuc's videos if you get what i mean.) However this was such a beautifully crafted essay that gave me a whole new perspective on not just this trail but side characters who are kind of underrated. I never would've guessed the logic vs emotion theme nor Himiko possibly having depression or any other mental illness but i now can see it makes sense. I loved how you didn't even skip Kiyo as being a meme killer (Though at first the seesaw joke is funny). Despite Kiyo not being perfect, he wasn't boring nor obviously straightforward as you mentioned. I was surprised that i didn't notice how indeed creative the killings were which i think fits his character being that he's a serial killer. And though predictable, the fact that he's predictable is kinda refreshing in murder mysteries/DR, it makes him flawed, a human teen making mistakes as well. Though i agree it would've been better he had DID than what was given.
Himiko's character arc here was indeed written well and one of the strongest, With Kokichi being the one to remind her making him balanced as well. The mini inclusion of the topic of grief although i haven't experienced did surprised me and being able to tie DRV3 to Coco's idea of remembering the memories you made really surprised me. I also loved how you talked bout now people dismiss analyzing deeply as reading too much into things as it's something i feel bullied for by my peers in school. Personally i love it when stories have a deeper meaning and analyzed so it made me feel like i wasn't being made fun of for thinking that way.
Basically I'm saying you did do your job cause you did change my opinion on this trial (not the best but still good) and i think it was one of the best video essays about Danganronpa
P.s I love your -sona design, purple and pink looks good together and you ROCK the purple lips

This video made me remember that I used to have a really shallow view of most characters in DR, particularly Tenko back when the game first came out and I feel glad that all changed. Back when I went through the Big DR binge in mid 2019 where I went through everything (the games, light novels, manga and even some fanfics) is when I got a newfound appreciation for V3’s story and characters as a whole, and this video exemplifies some of the things that were going through my mind while I was replaying chapter 3.

    !tw: child abuse, incest!
ok so i 100% agree kiyo is accountable for his actions, what he did was very wrong, and incest is nasty. however, if you look into his character, theres quite a bit of evidence pointing towards something really sad. from the way his sister tulpa acts (or whatever you believe she is) to his unhealthy obsession with her and his mental instability, its hard to see their relationship in a healthy way, even if you exclude the incest. i study phsycology a lot and from what we can gather about kiyo its likely he was abused emotionally and maybe sexually. this may be tmi but im actually a csa survivor whos situation was very similar to kiyos. my abuser, which happen to be my sister, acted in a pretty similar way to how kiyos sister acted (or how we can assume she acted). before therapy i acted really similar to kiyo, minus the murdering. kiyo really reminds ne of how i wouldve turned out if i hadnt gotten any help and the abuse continued. i might just be reading too much into it and kiyo really is just a nasty incest man but i couldnt help but see the signs in him and analyze and speculate on him

One of the most disappointing moments for me in this game came when you play as Himiko, and she doesn't mention what she learned from Kiyo at all. She should've said "Tenko told me to live my life facing forward, but Kiyo said that how you come to terms with death determines how you live." So much lost potential to show that she'd been really thinking about why he did what he did, and recontextualize his twisted thinking to something that helps her move forward.

My gf is playing through DRV3 constantly and I noticed Himiko's development after the third trial and I loved it, and I think that helps because I had seen the ending before watching the game. But this really really helped me understand why I adored Tenko and keep just mentioning how different Himiko is as a character pre and post chapter 3. Also thinking about her Free Time Events she probably has abandonment issues since the one person she looked up to basically abandoned her and she spends the entirety of her FTEs trying to tell herself he's coming back for her, so I think there might be something to say for how the next two people having no explicit way of coming back was something that broke through that negative coping mechanism as well.
Also I think the Necronomicon being the motive and being destroyed immediately after the trial might link into that coping mechanism? And maybe also taunting Korekiyo's similar horrible way of dealing with grief?
