Too bad for you that you don't have D24tic in America, they are slightly better than D24t and D24.
But the best thing to do is to swap it with D5252T, it bolt up with the original D24 transmission, you need to modify a D24 oil pan and sump (shortening because 5cyl), install the 850 wire harness and building engine mounts. I'm gonna do it on my 745 i had for free with no engine.

@@Binge420 It is still a VW engine, in the Passat it's the AEL engine. After the facelift of the V70 1 Volvo made their own D5 with their modular block. ;)

The vegetable oil will have a lower specific energy but does lubricate the top end a little bit more you'll generally see about a 12 to 17% decrease in power most people don't notice it

Good shit, I just bought a 1st Gen Cummins to go along with my Volvos. I'd turn the boost up on mine but it is a work truck so I can't make it too rowdy. Hearing that 760 diesel makes me want one. She sounded NICE! Would go nicely with my 745ti and 245ti. ✌😎

Yep good idea with the veggie oil, keep an eye on your fuel filters if you end up running used engine oil try to let it separate for 6-12 months that way the real sludge will be at the bottom, definitely mix that though will diesel or 2 stroke oil. Or red farm diesel (Cheaper)
Crazy veg noises were the best thing about my 764 TDIC. LDA mod, turn the fuel screw, job done. How expensive is veg oil in North America now? It actually passed diesel for a while in the UK.

The '80 had an m cam in case anyone was curious, took it out with a cool swedish dude i met, there was a box of ipd poly bushings in the trunk apparently too

Veggie smells lovellyyy, better when warm out/when the fuel warms up, just occasionally flush with some diesel after running it dry, no issues 🤙
A buddy of mine ran used engine oil diluted with petrol in his 1.6 TD vw and it ran great for a long time and still ran when it was scrapped.

@@turnip5359 yep 10% or so, i think it was mostly in order to be able to filter it easier, it was mixed oil of all kinds so also tranny fluid and god knows what else people put in the barrels :P

I once used veggie oil in my 2012 Mercedes. Diesel. Honestly it worked just fine. the only problem I had was starting in a very cold weather. I went back to diesel because it's cheaper
I slapped a compound turbo and 12mm plunger in the dieselpump 10/10 would recommend

Best that i know of in the older mechanical diesels veggy oil over time can and will clog up your sending unit, filters, injectors and pump. so mixing it with the diesel isn't a bad idea... although that's the first time i heard someone doing it. P.s I'm not a volvo guy but Wow man that 760!! Wicked sounding.

If you think the d24 is the best sounding then u havent heard a d5252t and they make a really good motor for tuning aswell de d24 is quite weak cracks heads camshafts and mutch more but the d5 hosent have those problems

So what was he saying about piston slap on the 740 turbo diesels? The thermostatic valve fails in the hot air position? Do you remove it and try to get a new part or what's the fix on that? And is it the valve specifically that you remove?
On gas 740 turbos, the diesels does not have that thermostatic valve

Try using aluminum foil to remove the rust just crumple it up and scratch the crap out of it like it's sandpaper it should remove the rust it worked on my bike handlebars

Do you think the vegetable oil goes from your tank through the lift pump completely saturate your fuel filter goes through all the lines then your pump then your rail in what was that 3-4 seconds? Say it's raining the same because it's still running on the same diesel that was in the tank I can almost guarantee you you have no vegetable oil being run on the engine yet

PD150 engine is the best for veg oil just a little bit of D mix it 10:1 with veg oil and car will never break down

In sweden the d24 is common and the usual swedish (dreambuild) is allways a volvo 740 or 940 with a d24 no springs on the car and mk18 weels
yea we see some of those in Norway too, they are usually pretty expensive. Very sought after car for sure

@80Coronadrift - And probably long before it was yours, it was mine. I owned it from 1995 - 2002? or so and built it up to be an extremely reliable + durable car. It didn't have a B cam in it; I pulled that before I sold it and installed the famous "W" cam.
They're up for sale on local marketplace but apparently he's only accepting a $15k offer for ALL of them. I'm close enough that I'd be interested in an individual but his ad says he'll "let them rot" so that's cool I guess. I'll just stick with my gas 240s for now unfortunately
