I think the mythology of "Ara went for the tie" started after Notre Dame went to LA the very next week, with Hanratty still banged-up, and stomped the Trojans, 51-0. I'm glad Goeddeke set the record straight in this video by reminding all who watched this game that Daugherty actually punted with roughly 1 and a half minutes to play. This 1966 Irish team was one of the greatest in college football history.
